Last week I said Smackdown hit a pot of gold but this week I think it hit a pot of silver. Last week's Smackdown was one of the best all year but this week wasn't as good but I still enjoyed it.
Smackdown couldn't have started better. We saw Edge come out with Vickie and had a match. Let me remind you this is Edge's first match on Smackdown since he came back. Now Edge faced Kung Fu Naki. I was very surprised that Naki controlled the beginning of the match. He preformed some good moves on the WWE champion. Edge came back though in a terse way and got the win. After the match, Vickie announced Jeff and HHH would team up and face in a tag team gauntlet match. I will talk about that match later.
The second match was Maria vs., the Diva's champion, Michelle McCool. Now this was a non-title match but it was very well done and actually interesting. Both were great in the match and preformed some good moves. Overall, I liked the match and would like to see another one, and I think I will as Maria beat the champion with a school boy.
Also on Smackdown, we saw a return. This return was more than a year in the making as Hurricane Helms came back. He faced the disappointing MVP, or should I saw WVP (Worst Valuable Player) as he can buy a match for more than 4 months now. I was surprised how big the reaction Helms got from the crowd in the arena as they were very excited and so was I. To me, Helms looked pretty impressive. I mean I know he is going to have some ring rust but for his first match back, it was good. Of course, MVP lost again and Helms is undefeated since he came back. The match was pretty much one side as Hurricane dominated the match.
A match that I thought was somewhat a waste of time was Matt Hardy vs. Chavo Guerrero. This match, to me, was more of a time consuming one. Meaning, I think WWE just made this match to fill up some extra time they had left over. This match really didn't last long but it was pretty good. Matt and Chavo went back and forth but really no one had complete control. This match ended in a no contest as Kozlov came out and destroyed Matt. It really didn't look good for Matt as you can tell Kozlov didn't take it easy on him.
The one of two main events tonight was the tag team gauntlet match. It was Jeff Hardy and HHH vs. (first tag team) Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins. I am glad to see these two stars back on Smackdown as I think they are a great tag team. They are former tag champs and deserve to be on Smackdown more. This match between these two teams didn't last long as Jeff and HH nearly took them out pretty quickly. In this entire match, both HHH and Jeff just didn't get along together. They first tried to out due each other and then they just couldn't take each other. Jeff got the win on Zack and Curt but the next team was John Morrison and The Miz. This match between these two teams was better than the last. Miz and Morrison have become the tag team of WWE. They fight on every show and I think are probably the tag team of 2008. They were doing well against HHH and Jeff and I really wanted to know how long this whole gauntlet was going to last. I then found out that it wasn't going to be too long as HHH and Jeff just broke down and attacked each other on the outside. The referee got to the count of 10 and had to call for the bell. The winners are Miz and Morrison but Jeff and HHH were going at it and it was pretty aggressive. They ran into the ring barricade, the ring steps, the ring posts, and were attacking each other too. The other referees had to come out to stop the confrontation.
Before the main event, it was the Khali Kiss Cam, a very special Khali Kiss Cam for the holidays. They had some audience members kiss but surprisingly, Khali kissed a WWE employee and that was Eve. I thought it would be another "audience member" but it's good to mix it up. Last week here on my blog, I wanted the Kiss Cam. Well I got it but now I didn't get The Brian Kendrick fighting. Where was he? Well it looks like I can never get a "perfect" Smackdown with both of them on it.
The main event of the evening was The Undertaker vs. The Big Show. Now I am tired of steel cage matches. I mean we had 2 cage matches on Raw in the past 3 months or so. I wasn't that excited about this match but I wanted to see who would win. After all said and done, this match was a great, I mean great, main event. It was probably the best main event in all of wrestling, including TNA. Both stars went back and forth, hitting punch after punch, grapple after grapple, and strikes after strikes. These two gave it their all and really put on a show. I really didn't know who was going to win so I was excited all through the match. At one moment, Taker jumped off the top rope for a leg drop but missed and landed right on his back. Before that, there really wasn't that many times they were trying to escape the cage. They mostly tried to get a pinfall. Both used the cage as a weapon on several different occasions. I liked the match and I give it a 4 or 4.5 star. The Undertaker won with this Hell's gate move.
Overall, the matches were good; not the best, but I liked the main event the best. Next week's show should be great as we have Jeff Hardy vs. HHH.
I am pretty sure the WWE hit a pot of gold. Well not WWE but Smackdown in general. Smackdown's show was excellent tonight. Let's run down the action, drama, and excitement that happened:
The show couldn't have started any better. It started with Vickie Guerrero in the ring. She was talking about Edge coming back and being champion. Then here comes Edge down to the ring. Boy was I happy to see him. I was going through an Edge withdraw. I been watching the "Ladder Match" DVD the past couple of weeks and I have watched Edge in those historic TLC matches. I knew Edge had talent and I looked at Edge a different way and just wanted to see him come back. Well he did on Smackdown. It looks like Edge and Vickie are back together again (which I am happy about). There are so many people who hate this storyline but I don't know how you hate it. I am just wandering where they are going to take it and if they are going to leave it off from Edge cheating on her or what. It should be interesting to know. Well Vickie announced a Beat the Clock night where whoever wins their match in the fastest time gets a championship shot at the next PPV.
The first match also couldn't have been better. I am a big The Brian Kendrick fan and when I heard his entrance music, I knew this was going to be a good match. I guess I am a genius or something but I was right. This match had solid action. I thought Kendrick did an excellent job in this match. I am not talking about his dancing, even though that was good as always, but I am talking about his wrestling. He really gave Jeff a work for his art and I was pleased with the match. It had solid action, like I said, and lasted like a real match. He had 12:13 as his time.
Kozlov had to try to beat that time as he faced Jeff's Brother, Matt Hardy. This match was not as good as Jeff's match but it was still entertaining. Kozlov couldn't win the match in the time frame but he still never got pinned.
We also saw tonight a 6 diva tag action. It was the Bella twins and Michelle McCool vs. Natalya, Maryse, and Victoria. This was one of the best diva's matches I have seen in awhile. It was certainly better than Raw's diva match and I think it was better than TNA's diva match. We saw Maryse pick up the win once again, wow she is on e winnins streak. She pinned McCool but only because one of the Bella twins knocked McCool down. Maryse picked up the advantage and won it for her team. It looks like Michelle McCool is turning heel as she pushed Maria down for no reason at all. It was a very exciting match and had plenty of action. A great match and I give them all credit.
Another match we saw here tonight was a tag team match. It was Jesse and Festus vs. The Miz and John Morrison. We have seen so much from Morrison and The Miz recently since they are basically on all three shows but I like their work. It seems like WWE is trying to build up their characters and make them a great tag team. I am beginning to want to watch them wrestle every week. Of course they won but at the end of the match was good. John and Miz were, I would say for a lack of a better word "making" fun of Festus. It was very entertaining though as they both rang the bell once and then again and it had Festus going back and forth. Then at the end it winded up being trouble for them as they weren't ready and Festus got them but they got away.
I was a little disappointed that we didn't see the Khali Kiss Cam but that was alright as the show really didn't need it since it was so good.
Now here comes the main event. The main event was Shelton Benjamin vs. HHH and HHH had to beat Jeff's time of 12:13 to get the title shot at the PPV. This was a great main event and, just like Kendrick, it showed Benjamin's talent. I kind of knew HHH was going to have the same time as Jeff but I was still skeptical. Both stars gave it their all and really had a very close match. The last minute or so I thought HHH was going to lose. Benjamin was going to the outside every time, which is a very good thing WWE thought of. At the end, HHH did win, or did he? It was a tie between these HHH and Jeff's time. If I had to decide, I would make a match next week. It would be Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy and whoever wins would get the title shot. I think that is fair but I think they are going to make it a triple threat match. Overall, Smackdown was a really great show, which is no surprise, and everything I wanted, it happened!
Smackdown came off a great show last week but how did they do this week? Well i will tell you.
I was very excited for Smackdown this week. it came off an amazing show last week and we have a huge main event. After watching Smackdown i am pretty disappointed with the result. Now pretty much none of the matches were great. I mean they were good but not the great. I really aren't going to mention any of them or described who won as i don't even think it is relavent.
The one match i would like to talk about is the tag team match of The Brian Kendrick and his bodyguard vs. Carlito and Primo. Kendrick danced to the ring again and after which is always a favorite of mine. He won the match but his bodyguard got the pin. Kendrick is really making a name for himself here on Smackdown.
The Jeff Hardy vs. HHH match was alright. i thought it was going to be better. after i watched it, i thought it was entertaining but should of been better. i dont know why they put this match right in the middle of the show though.
The ending of Smackdown was entertaining. I was so happy to see Vickie on the show as she wasn't on the show before hand. She came out in her famous wheel chair and after all said in done, she was put in a coffin. She was screaming her head off and then ran off.
The show could have been better if the matches were more entertaining and interesting and for Vickie Guerrero to be on ths show more. Another thing i would have liked to see was the "Khali Kiss cam". i just find that so entertaining and very funny. Overall, the show wasn't the best of the year but wasn't the worst. it could have been better but i hope next week's would be like last weeks. That's all for now but what did you think of Smackdown?
What can I say about Smackdown this week? Welcome once again for "My Infamous Smackdown Recap" as I will share with you my thoughts and what happened on Smackdown.
Smackdown started off with a Casket in the middle of the ring and The Undertaker was talking about his Casket match at Survivor Series. We then saw him come out of the casket but then we saw Jeff Hardy come on the titan tron. I don't know if it was me or not but Jeff was looked very strange on this episode. His paint he wore on his face looked like he was something out of a horror movie. Anyway, Jeff stated that he will beat The Undertaker in the Extreme Rules match. Well I will get to that match later.
Smackdown's first match was Shelton Benjamin, who is the U.S. Champion, going against Matt Hardy, who is the ECW champion. Yes, this match was a champion vs. champion match and I can easily say that this match felt like it. At first this match seemed quite boring. Matt was working on the arm of Shelton so the match didn't go anywhere. But after working on the arm, the match picked up big time and tore the house down. Every time I hear Shelton Benjamin is going to wrestle, I know it will be a great match. Benjamin is a great athlete that is the future of this business. I am just amazed by the moves and the stunts Shelton does. I would really like to see Shelton be in the main event status by now as I know he will be great against the other stars, but I don't think WWE will do that. With that being said, I still like Benjamin in mid-card matches. Both Matt and Shelton were working to their best in this match. They gave it their all and it really turned out to be a very unpredictable and exciting match. I am a fan of Benjamin but unfortunately he lost this match.
The second match on Smackdown was The Brian Kendrick vs., one half of the WWE tag team champions, Carlito. As you may know by now, I am a huge fan of Kendrick. He is the future of this business. Every time Kendrick is fighting, I know it will be an entertaining match. I do have to say that this match was every exciting and very unpredictable. I surely thought Brian was going to lose when Carlito pinned him but he kicked out at the last possible moment. Overall, Kendrick won the match but it was very close. I am glad to see him win and I wouldn't mind, just like Benjamin, to see him in the main event status. After the match, we saw The Brian Kendrick dance in the ring again which is very eccentric but very funny.
Another match was for the diva's championship. It was Maria vs. Michelle McCool. Now I would have liked if this match lasted longer as it only lasted about 5 minutes and let me remind you it was a title match. This match really didn't have any exciting ring to it like the Benjamin and Hardy match. We saw for weeks now that Festus has a crush on Maria. So with that being said, we saw Festus coming out with a stuffed animal. McCool got the win and after that Festus gave Maria the stuffed animal. I would like to see a rematch against these two stars but next time is should be an entertaining and it should last more than 10 minutes.
We also saw a contract signing on this episode. The contract signing was for the WWE title at Survivor Series. We heard Triple H making his weekly jokes toward a star and he made them to Vickie Guerrero. I just love the jokes he makes, even though the writers write the jokes up. He always makes them even funnier when he says it. After the contract signing, Jeff Hardy came out and went up to the top rope and put Kozlov right throw the table. Jeff then ripped up the title contract and through it right in the face of HHH.
Another match we saw was MVP fighting. Now MVP has been on a losing streak for weeks, if not a couple months. MVP fought against the superstar who is getting a great push by the WWE, Kung Fu-Nakie. This match also didn't last long as we saw The Great Khali come out as you may know he is in a rivalry against MVP. MVP got distracted and Kung Fu-Nakie got the advantage and when MVP turned around, Nakie just the standing scissors kick and got the win.
Right after that match we saw the Khali Kiss Cam. Now I have to say this is one of the favorite segments in all of WWE. WWE just picks the most outrages, the weirdest people they can find. They a person but instead of her kissing Khali, she gets an opportunity to kiss The Great Khali. I could watch this segment every week on Smackdown and I will never get tired of it.
The main event of the evening was Jeff Hardy vs. The Undertaker in an Extreme Rules match. I was looking forward to this match all week and it didn't disappoint me at all. As soon as the match went underway, they both fought outside of the ring. Jeff gave it all and was running off the barriers right onto Taker. During the course of the match, we saw several weapons being used. We saw a chair, kendo stick, and last but certainly not least a ladder. Both used the chair and smacked each other with it in the sternum, back and head. Jeff used the kendo stick right to Taker and left marks on his back and on his head. We saw Jeff jump off the ring steps and landed right into the crowd right after hitting Taker off his feet. With match went everywhere and it was everything I expected. Remember, this is TV. WWE will not have gory, brutal, and violent matches on TV but they would have it on a PPV. Right before the ending, we saw Big Show come into the ring and attacked The Undertaker by choke slamming him. Having The Big Show interfere in the match really was a turndown as I would have liked to see a one on one contest with no interruptions but at least it was Extreme rules so there were no Disqualifications. Both Jeff and Take worked together to knock Show right out of the ring but Jeff got the up hand and knocked The Undertaker off his feet with a viscous chair shot. Hardy then went up to the top of the ladder and landed a HUGE leg drop off it right onto Taker and got the win. Now this match kept me on the edge of my seat for most of the time. I was shocked by the ending and never expected it, which I always want. We then saw Jeff talk to Smackdown's GM, Vickie, and she said Jeff will fight HHH next week and if he wins he will be in the WWE title match at Survivor Series.
What a show we had here tonight. This show beat this week's Raw show without a doubt and I have to say Raw was really good too. Now I can't wait for next week's Smackdown as we will see Jeff vs. HHH and this will be another great show! That's all the time I have now but what are your thoughts?
