Here is a special installment of "my thoughts". And today I am talking about Rey Mysterio. This superstar is a high flyer and called the biggest little man. I have a lot of thoughts about him and here is the first one.
I would like to say I was never a big fan of Rey. As you may know, I become a wrestling fan in the attitude era. With that being said, I really didn't know who Rey was because I watched the WWE. Mysterio came into the WWE back in 2002. 2002 was a very big year in the WWE as there were so many brand new stars and the name change for the company. There were stars like John Cena, Batista, Randy Orton, and Rey Mysterio that came in at '02. Now Rey wasn't really a new star but a veteran. As you know he was part of WCW but he was new to the WWE and fairly new to the WWE fans. When Rey came in the WWE, I would consider him a veteran. He fought in Mexico, WCW and other promotions and countries so he really knows what to do. WWE put him on Smackdown and really didn't do much for him. If I was the WWE, I would have put him in the main event status. He already had the speed, high flying skills, wrestling ability and so much more but the WWE put him in the Cruiserweight division.
I think Rey had his best high flying time when he came in and after. From around 2002-2004 really was the time Rey preformed his best high flying maneuvers. Like I said he faces in the Cruiserweight division and I think that was a good spot for him. Even though I said put him in the main event status, I didn't mind him being in the Cruiserweights as he fought really great matches and performed breathtaking high flying moves against other stars that did the same. I think that Rey lost, or should I say WWE, the high flying moves. I mean he still does them but they aren't that impressive and aren't very skill full. I think the best time for Rey Mysterio in his whole career would have to be in 2006. At that time, he finally becomes a main event status star, which he should always have been. I think he also had the best matches in his career and was in the best shape in his career. He faced stars like Kurt Angle and Mark Henry, just to name a few. He was in the main event and put on main event matches that were great. He really didn't have his high flying powers to much as I think the WWE just didn't want him to do that. He performed more grapple moves and stayed on his feet more rather than leaving them.
I think Rey could make any match exciting and entertaining. Take a look at this, When the Great Khali is in the ring, he really doesn't put on a great match. In fact, he didn't make it interesting at all, unless it was the Khali Kiss Cam. Anyway, Rey faced him in a couple of matches and they were pretty interesting and entertaining. It seems to me that Rey could pretty much make any match against any superstar exciting no matter who the star his he is facing. Yes, I have seen matches that he was in that weren't exciting, every star has that, but I am saying Rey really can get the crowd into the match.
I subject that I am pretty angry about is what the WWE is doing with Rey Mysterio right now. Back in the 2008 draft, the WWE made him go from Smackdown to Raw. I really liked him on Smackdown as that was his home. When I look at the roster now, I can think of matches that he could have had that I would have loved to see. Some examples are: HHH, Jeff Hardy, Kozlov, The Undertaker, The Big Show, Edge, and The Brian Kendrick. It would have been great but we will never see it happen. Since he came to Raw I thought it would ruin his career, and it DID! I look at the roster and really can't see matches that would be like Smackdown's. For instance: Batista, C.M. Punk, John Cena, and Shawn Michaels. Now him against HBK would have been good and so would Batista but that is really it. The worst thing the WWE did was make him an upper-mid card. I really don't think people can be upper-mid carders but more like mid-carders but I think you get the point. The WWE made Rey face Kane in an alright rivalry and now he is in the Intercontinental, IC, championship tournament. Even though the IC title is precious, it's not like the World title. He should be facing in main event matches and contending for the World title, not Cena. I feel bad for Rey as he gone downhill in the WWE. It's almost like the WWE doesn't appreciate his skills or just forgot about him. Rey went from a mid-card to a main event star then to a mid-card. Let me tell you that you can't go up and down. Once you are a main event star, you stay there. Hopefully WWE will get some common sense and make Rey what he actually deserves. That is all for "my thoughts" for now but please check back to my others and wait to see my others coming soon. If you have any suggestions for a future "My thoughts" blog, then feel free to message me. Anyway that is my thoughts on this topic, but what are yours? Talk to you next time!
