WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2009 review

I had a whole review ready to put up but when i went to backspace someting I was clicked out of the writing section and it made me go 1 page back and I lost eveything. The worse part is I was right at the end. I'm just gonna shorten it up for ya.

Road to Wrestlemania is fun and it is the mode that gives you cutscenes and an interesting storyline that branches off. Since you are only limited to certain superstars, THQ added Career Mode which does not help. There's no sotryline or cutscenes, you just go through the year winning belts. There are hidden challenges that not only give you nothing, you don't know exactly waht to do. A challenge would just say: Taunt your opponent ? times. You find out what it is after you complete it. Another bad part, its the only way to take your created superstar and raise their attributes. And on top of that, you raise stats by performing certain actions in the ring. It does suck cause you can't get your stats to where you exactly want them, and that's what destroys the whole create a superstar thing. Create an entrance and moveset are still there. PPV and Championship are taken out, with Finisher put in. Create a finisher is good for the most part, it could use a few more animations though. Also, to get abilities for your CAS, you have to unlock them in Career mode, and they don't tell you how to do that either.

Roster Editor is good, I just wish you could change peoples stats and abilities. Highlight Reel is good and it makes the online experience better. Stables are changed up a bit, there are no more team attributes, but there are team finishers. Exhibition is still here with new matches like the inferno and gauntlet matches, and the hardcore match is now falls count anywhere. Tournament mode is still here and is the same as last year. The roster is good and will get better when the downloadable wrestlers come out. Now I just want to talk about the gameplay. First off, the stamina system is still here, yet when you start the game its off, the controls are the same, square is strike, right analog stick is grapple, triangle is finisher, same old, same old. A problem I have is when I go for springboard moves is that they always try to stop and it gets kind of annoying. The AI also reverses and tries to escape Ultimate control graples and the ground and pound feature. Another thing I don't like is the out of ring camera angle. Its hard to irish whip your opponent in the direction you want, especially when you want to get them on the table.Other than that you'll have to play a few matches to notice any differences. And I can't go through a review without mentioning the new tage team feature. When you're playing with your buddy in a tag match and he's the illegal partner, he won't get bored just watching you. He can pull down the rope, grab the ref, grab the opponent, and even tag himself in. And the illegal partner can build up a hot tag, which could mean the end of the match. This is a feature that is long awaited and finally has debuted. Expect this to stay around for a while.

    Closing Comments

At the end of the day, Smackdown vs RAW 2009 is a fun and full game. You have plenty to do with all the different match types, and that's what makes WWE's games special. You can play a table, ladder, cage or falls count anywhere match and you could make it a tag team, triple threat, fatal 4 way, or just stick to the one on one choice. You have so many options and that's what sets apart WWE games from the rest for the past 9 years. And on the final decision on whether or not you should at least play the game, I say yes. Every wrestling fan should get this game, this is the ultimate wrestling experience for a video game. Either buy it or put it on your christmas list, this is definitely a game you should try.

    Scores

Presentation- The case is nice and the manual is better than last year. The menus are pretty cool and there's not much of a problem with anything. The presentation gets a 10.

Graphics- Graphics have improved since last year, and the only bad thing would be the crowd. 9

Sound- The song tracks are great, and the commentating is wonderful, I just don't like the announcing at people's entrances. It sounds like the announcer has something more to say when they're done. 9.5

Gameplay- This is an overall good experience, there is similarity from last year, but its no big deal, but with career mode and having to build up created superstars, its not so good. 8.5

Lasting Appeal- RTW should fill out some time, going for bonuses and all. Career mode isn't that good, but with downloadable content it should make you keep going back to the game.8.5

Final rating(not an average)- 9. The main problem here is career mode and building up your superstar. But you should definitely buy it.

    TNA Impact! review

Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 09:20 AM EST [General]
    Posted By: cenaisoverrated

This is the best possible review for TNA's game, anything else you read is wrong. First off, TNA is not so innocent as a company that sells games the best they can. I give you a very bad thing to do. This was done by Nintendo, and I found this out at impactwrestling.com. Not all stores recieved a lot of copies. Some places only got as much as 6 copies of TNA IMPACT! This is just to make it look like the game is popular, let me get more into it. First, stores would recieve very few copies that would be sold out in a day or two. This would make people demand the video game, making it look like it was so popular that it sold out immediately. This was most likely done due to poor reviews. The stores would tell people that they only got so many copies, if TNA is holding out just to make it look popular, then why don't they just release all the copies they have? A lot of people would buy them. Stupid as it is, lets get into the game. Right off the bat, the opening is nice, and the menu looks cool, they play the wrestlers's themes as you go through the menus. Lets start off with the exhibition choice. First of all, the only matches you have are a standard match, tag, Free For All(four-way), submission, Falls Count Anywhere, FCA tag and handicap. While it is lacking in matches, something fun to do is Ultimate X. There's a 1 on 1, and a FFA(3 competitors). You can earn major style points with this match. And speaking of the points, they pretty much unlock new moves. And speaking of the new moves, you don't get that many. Midway said they would have about 2,000 moves, but there wasn't enough time, yea, 2 years is not enough time. Instead, you get punches, kicks, 7 grapples, 1 submission move, 3 aerial moves, and 1 finisher. What's worse, almost everyone has the same moves, and taunts are not individual, meaning everyone has the same taunts. The only thing that separates the wrestlers are their finishers. Now, lets get into the gameplay. This is were it lacks, besides the moves, all of your grapples are done in front, and on the ground, with your opponent facing up. Just playing is really awful. To add, all matches are no DQ, and no count-out. And the only weapon you have are 5 chairs around the ring. There's also no ref, no announcers's bodies, even though there is a table for them, and the commentating isn't to good. The sound of the mat slamming is nice, and the voice over for story mode is cool. The roster is questionable at best, with 30 superstars, and a chance of DLC(downloadable content on PS3), the roster needs to be bigger, especially with no Knockouts. The entrance is also flawed, between how they are only 15 seconds long, teams don't come out together, and there is a load time in between each entrance. They only good part would be just seeing them. Other things to point out are there are no belts, the Online feature only has 1 on 1 matches, and the options are lacking. The difficulty is a pain in the ass, even on the easiest setting, the AI reverses a bunch of moves. Another problem I have is the stick system. In order to get out of a pin, you have to move the left analog stick left and right, which is hard as it is, and the stun meter makes you  vulnerable until you lower it with the right analog stick. I've only lost matches because of the pinning problem. And with reversals, you have to get the timing right, which is hard, and, you can't reverse chair moves. You just get beaten up with no chance of stopping it. After WWE has released a million games, you think TNA would do great. No. They do bad on what WWE does good, they make the same mistakes and more than WWE's games, and this makes Midway look dumber than dirt. Sometimes it feels like a middle school. Where WWE is the principal, and TNA is the 7th grade rebel. Some good things are the submission system, which is easy, and the bonus stuff you get, like featured, real-life matches, behind the scenes stuff, and some trailers. Now, we're gonna finish it with the Story mode. Anything else you wanna check out, go to IGN.com, and check out there review. the only problem I have with that is the 360 gets .3 better than the PS3, even though its at least .3 worse. Just go to the PS3 version, that's the real rating for the game. I'm not gonna talk about the story of story mode, cause everyone knows about it. The story mode shouldn't take you long, you can definitely complete it on a Saturday. The cutscenes are good, and some load screens have the character talking, which I like. I'm only 33% done, only because i do other things, and you pretty much have to get your way back to the top, which means teaming with Eric, which is fun. The only problem with that is that's the only choice for a story you have.

    My Closing Comments

For a game that took 2 years to make, it definitely has a big problem. The game can get boring quickly, but there's something that just makes you want to go back and play. What sucks is the losing. The CAW is pretty bad, and their are flaws, but what about buying the game? Well, if you're a wrestling fan, definitely get it. If you're just kinda interested, rent it and see how it goes, other than that, don't bother paying 60 dollars for it, another alternative, get it for christmas. Go to ign.com for their review.

    Ratings:

Presentation- 9.0, the box and manual are nice, the menu screen does kinda give you a classic feeling.

Graphics: 8.8, IGN talks about clipping issues, I don't see it, they stand stupid, but the sweat, body and outfit are nice.

Sound- 8.5, the only thing is the lame commentating, other than that, nothing really stands out.

Gameplay- 6.5, I'm not a fan of the controls, and you can just feel how stuff just feels different, the AI is pretty stupid, and they reverse too much, this is kinda so-so.

Lasting Appeal- 6.0, this game just gives me something to do until 09 comes out. This and the Gameplay rating are kind of hard ones.

Final Rating(not an average)- 6.3, Failing, but worth getting if the game is of interest to you. The long wait and delays, along with the 'scandal', really led to this game's demise.

    PlayStation3 vs Xbox 360

Saturday, September 13, 2008, 01:41 PM EST [General]
    Posted By: cenaisoverrated

Some people say the PS3 is better, some say the 360 is better. Let's see which is better. First, the 360 came out before the PS3, so by the time the PS3 came out, most people had a 360. Having it first will most likely influence people one way or the other. Let's get into some categories. I am leaving cost out because everything else affects the cost.

Graphics: They're about even, on a few games, the PS3 shows a better quality.

    # of players: This is simple, 360 has 4, PS3 has 7, more players, more fun, PS3.

Game selection: By this, I'm not counting the games that came out before the PS3 came out, that's just not fair, don't you see more PS3 exclusive games than 360? Does the 360 even have any exclusive games? Oh yeah, Halo. Does anyone even play that anymore? I guess people exchanged that for GTA4.

Game releases: I read an article saying that PS3 games come out later than the Xbox 360's games. LIE. All games come out on the same date. (Not counting any other countries, I'm talking about America, where it matters)

Platform compatability: The PS3 can connect with the PSP, the 360 has nothing.

Stores: I know PS3 has a store on the console, don't know about 360, but if it does, it's not better than the PS Store.

There's so many things to compare, I don't have enough time. So i'm just gonna close it up with, Other: Folding Home, this is some kind supercomputer thing in which you connect your PS3 with some college. You pretty much help find cures for diseases or something, you don't do anything physical, just connect it and listen to the nice music they give you as you watch the Earth revolve. Microsoft, why don't you help the world? PS Home, an interactive virtual world where you get to create your character, talk with other people, etc. And SIXAXIS(PS3), its pretty much like having a Wii.

So pretty much, PS3 wins in performance, games, etc. Want to compare them yourselves, play the same game on both PS3 and 360 for a bit, and you'll see the PS3 will have an overall better feel, look, and enjoyability. And about the price, its worth paying a little extra for the PS3. With the PS3, you just get more. Simple.

Just to let you all know, I don't hate the 360, I just don't like it when people say its better than the Playstaion 3, even though its not. But if you want a peaceful compromise, I say Sony and Microsoft should team up, and make the ultimate console. It will have the same features from both PS3 and 360, the graphics will be 100 frames per second, etc, etc, and it will make the world a better place. You could call it, the Playstaion 360, or 720, either way, you can't miss.
