So thus far in my poll, TNA seems to be doing a better job then both WWE and ROH. Despite the fact they won't stop their idiocy with the Main Event Mafia and their constant burial of Samoa Joe.
I really shouldn't be surprised. Even though TNA can put on some good shows sometimes, their booking is trash. This is what I get for trying to jump the gun, I guess. I don't have too many people watching my blogs anyway. I'm not a WWE Superstar after all. Or the Sign Guy. Or the Tye Dye guy. Or that one guy who's always wearing sunglasses and has long black hair that I've seen showing up in more then one of the WWE PPV DVD's I have in my collection.
But whatever, I guess if I really wanted every single opinion of every WWE fan then I'd eat their brains.
No matter, let's talk about the Slammies last night. I got some thoughts on the winners of them and y'all gonna hear MY opinions about it:
Vladamir Koslov wins Breakout Star of the Year
So a guy who started his career saying "I LOVE DOUBLE DOUBLE E" then disappears for a while, reappears to absolutely NO music or titantron video and just mauls people straight up, then gets cheap shots on Jeff Hardy and Triple H to wind up on one main event on PPV only to be screwed like everyone else did by Edge gets this award? Well isn't THAT sad. I mean, at least in the case of Kofi Kingston and Ted DiBiase Jr. they won titles over the past year. But it's not like we had any input on THIS award show, just like all award shows. I mean, look what happened at the Academy Awards a couple years ago. Freakin' HAPPY FEET beat out Cars and Monster House in Best Animated Feature. If that didn't shout BS I dunno what did.
Todd Grisham and Matt Striker win Announce Team of the Year
I have to admit I'm a bit shocked about this one. I'm guessing this is due to the fact that Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler got split up by the Draft Lottery. If they were still together they'd prolly would have gotten it. But I guess there was no way around it. I had been hearing people say Striker and Grisham were good so they got their dues for it. (I say that because I haven't been able to watch ECW over the past few months due to our cable being cut off. Hopefully that will change soon...)
R-Truth wins Best Musical Performance of the Year
I'm down with this one, mostly because Ron Killings actually has musical talent compared to the OTHER nominees that were in it. Hopefully something like this can get him the push to becoming a U.S. Champion and not Vince Russo-style booking like having him job to Nicky-I mean, Dolph Zigger by countout. (BTW, I saw him during one of my visits to FCW and shouted "HEY NICKY! SPIRIT FINGERS!" towards him. He only replied by saying he had NO IDEA what I was talking about. :P)
The Dirt Sheet wins Best WWE.com Original of the Year
I don't watch the online shows so I can't really say whether I like this or not.
Charlie Haas as The GlamaHaas wins Best Impersonation of the Year
Come on now, was there REALLY gonna be any competition for Haas? =P If you asked me tho, I liked his JBL impersonation better.
The Miz and John Morrison win Tag Team of the Year
Even though I don't like these two, there really wasn't any other way around it. In the end, even if you are a couple of ugly CHUDs who have a bad attitude and even worse sense of fashion, having those tag team titles for a good portion of the year and getting a whole bunch of cheap wins in the process will win you trophies.
Evan Bourne's Shooting Star Press wins Finisher of the Year
Thank god Cena's F-U wasn't in this one or he'd be having that one by now. To be honest I would have thought Randy's RKO and Taker's gogoplata/Hell's Gate were the front runners since both have been used more efficiently over this year. But if you wanna go by visual standings then the SSP is a real sight to see live. I should know, I watched Kidman vs. Eddie Guerrero live a few years back.
Jeff Hardy's Swanton Bomb off the stage to Randy Orton wins Extreme Moment of the Year
Personally I thought Taker's chokeslam to Edge off the ladder and through the ring was pretty badass. But then again Jeff's most highest of high spots tend to be quite memorable. Hell, look what he did in TNA for Christ's sake. It would be nice if he won the World Title soon but he's pretty much getting the same treatment Samoa Joe's currently getting at TNA. Maybe when Wrestlemania 25 comes around...
Edge and Vickie Guerrero win Couple of the Year
God why...they're just TRYING to make me violently ill. Hell, they already have. You'd think Glamarella would have gotten this one, especially considering they BOTH won titles in one night. (Even though I didn't like that either.) But seriously, I'm getting tired of Edge and Vickie's "love" being paraded around us. Eddie must be rolling in his grave right now. Then again he prolly already has been ever since the angle got STARTED. His corpse might as well be in China by now, he's been rolling so much...
Beth Phoenix wins Diva of the Year
I would have preferred Mickie James to get this one, but it couldn't be helped. Like it or not she HAS held onto the Women's Title throughout the year even when she lost it to Mickie only to get it back. Still, we really could use a new Women's Champ by now...
CM Punk winning the World Heavyweight Title wins Joey Styles' OMG Moment of the Year
Now THIS one I'm satisfied with. Would have been nice if Taker's HIAC match with Edge gotten this one too, but this is better. Punk definitely made this year his year even if his World Title reign was cut short and he had been jobbing to the likes of Chavo, Miz & Morrison, and Randy Orton. He deserves this one because it was the turning point we needed when the Draft Lottery put both major World Titles on one show and both of them were retained on Smackdown at Night of Champions. Hopefully he can add the IC Title with his Tag Title...
Shawn Michaels vs. Ric Flair at Wrestlemania 24 wins Match of the Year
There really was no denying this one. Hell, I was there live with my best friend Alan Solivan of The Rogue's Gallery. You CANNOT match the emotions of the match unless you were there. It had everything you could ask for. The comedy spot with Shawn and Flair trading turnbuckle moments, the SICK moonsault where Shawn landed ribs first onto the announce table, the anticipation of the Sweet Chin Music that got stalled, right down to the collected disbelief of Flair getting pinned by a reluctant HBK. It fills me with pride knowing that when I raise my own family, I can tell my kids and grand kids that I was there for Ric Flair's last pro-wrestling match ever.
I only got three words to sum this one up:
"Thank you, Flair."
The Great Khali's Kiss Cam wins Ron Simmons' DAMN Moment of the Year
Why didn't Santino's attempt to do Melina's split-legged entrance get this one? XD But then again I can't imagine what it must be like to swap spit with that monster. And I ain't looking to find out. He can keep that one for all I care. Just as long as he doesn't try to make out with the award...
Chris Jericho wins Superstar of the Year
I was quite surprised with this one at first. I thought someone Triple H or John Cena had this one in the bag. Even with Stephanie McMahon giving out the award. Then again, Steph's been stepping back into B.O.W. mode these days. Despite that I've heard a LOT of people online say how brilliant Jericho was in deliverance of promos and matches when he turned back into a heel. Like him or not he excels at what he does and that in the end is what's important. So I'll let it slide this time. But if they ever do the Slammies again they better make it LESS like the results were rigged. But then again in the world of professional wrestling, that's asking for a little bit TOO much, wouldn't it?
That's all I got for now. If you lot will excuse me, I'm going to watch my copy of The Dark Knight. Later days, folks.
