Last night's ECW was devoted entirely to qualifying matches for their championship scramble at Unforgiven. Usually shows like this lack the interest of a normal wrestling show because of the absence of title matches, continue feuds, skits etc. But this episode worked because the matches were very good. The Matt Hardy/Morrison match was excellent, fairly long and got the crowd pumping. The Miz/Bourne match was shorter but still very entertaining, with some great spots. I was one who doubted the Miz but he has really improved. The Chavo/Dreamer was match good and Finlay/Knox was was very good and furthered their feud. So overall, very positive for a show that could have been very boring. I'm sure those whose long for endless comedy skits, weapons and catch phrases would disagree, but it was a very good night to see wrestling. We need these types of shows every once in awhile.
On a quick side note, in case anyone didn't hear John Cena was at the arena last night just a couple of hours after neck surgery. Check out the story on WWE.com and you'll find a nice quote from HHH about this. No matter what you think of Cena this shows a lot about his character and his passion for this business. It also is a good thing for the younger wrestlers to see. Any surgery can be risky, but especially neck and spinal ones, just ask Arn anderson. The fact that Cena went to be backstage at the Smackdown taping, a show he is not even a part of, speaks volumes about him.
