My Time at Spotlight Live (7/13/07)

Saturday, April 19, 2008, 07:44 PM EST [General]

First of all, I want to thank Tammy because if she had not let me know about this event I would not have had one of the best times of my life last Friday night. Thank you Tammy Whammy (only I can call her that, lol).

The event opened up with the host, Jimmy Hart. He was informing us about the rules for the "WWE's Biggest Fan" contest (the grand prize being $25,000 and a trip for 2 to SummerSlam) and told us that there were 5 video booths for us to film admissions for (unfortunately, I was not able to film my video admission for the contest :( ). Then he told us that some of the superstars would be singing kareoke and he then decided to give us an example of what to expect when he sang "Eat Your Heart Out Rick Springfield" from the WWE's first ablum, The Wrestling Album. If any of you have heard Jimmy sing before you know just how good he is and he was even better singing live; I sang along and I was surprised that I remembered all the words.

He then introduced Maria to the crowd and she proceeded to grace us with her rendition of "I love Rock'n'Roll" and she did quite well too. Btw, she's even more beautiful in person.

Next on stage was MVP. The crowd loved him and was chanting his name almost the entire time he was out there. Unfortunately he didn't sign a song for us, he instead talked about how he will beat Matt Hardy and remain United States Champion.

Then came The Miz. He talked breifly about his time on Real World and then about losing Million Dollar Tough Enough but still getting a job with WWE while Daniel Puder won and was fired. He sang "No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn" and the crowd was really into it (I almost lost my voice singing along).

Jillian Hall was up next, and to no suprise, she wanted to sing for us. She gave an absolute horrible version of "Oops I Did It Again" and in all honesty actually sounded better than Britney Spears. She asked the fans if we wanted her to sing another song and she was met with a unanimous "NO!!!" that left her in shock, lol.

Then, the moment we all waited for, we finally got to see Mr. Kennedy.......Kennedy. Jimmy tried to hand over the microphone to him so that he could, but Kennedy refused and reached up for hs own microphone. No microphone came down, so Jimmy had to get a microphone and lower it down himself. He gave us his always popular self-introduction and would stop everytime we tried to say it with him and would tell us "I never asked you to help, I never needed you to help me", it was hilarious. Then Jimmy talked to him SummerSlam and who he would want to fight at the PPV and the fans immediately started chantting "Cena, Cena, Cena..." Then Kennedy responded with "What makes you think John Cena will even make it to SummerSlam? I think that there's a slight possibility that Bobby Lashley will beat John Cena for the WWE title because I think that Jon Cena SUCKS!!!!" And with that last statement came a huge roar from the fans and it started a loud "Cena Sucks" chant. Then Kennedy came back with "Hold on, aren't these the same fans that just a few minutes ago were chantting 'Cena, Cena, Cena..'" And Jimmy responded with "Well this is New York, there's a lot of back and forth gonig on here. One minute it's ranining, the next it's not; can't make up its mind" Then Jimmy thank Kennedy for his time and Kennedy was unsatisfied by Jimmy's lackluster outro for him and then challened him to do better. Jimmy then shut him up by doing the Mr. Kennedy intro, holding on to the "Misterrrrrrr" part for about 90 seconds and finally ended with "Kennedy". Then 20 seconds of silence...then Mr. Kennedy closed with "KENNEDY!!!!"

A few minutes later, they started the line for autgraphs that seemed to never end as I waited almost 2 hours before I got to the head of the line. When I finally got to the front, first up was the lovely Jillian. I had a small conversation with her about her one day winning the Women's Title, that was really fun. My friend Hugo, who was in front of me, told Jillian that she was his favorite Diva and she said ,"Thank you, I'm my favorite Diva too," lol. Next was Kennedy. I brought a Mr. Kennedy action figure that I purchased from work and really wanted him to sign it. The security gaurd kept shouting at everyone ,"NO PERSONAL PHOTOS," but that didn't stop anyone and it certainly didn't stop me as I snapped photos of Mr. Kennedy and MVP. While I waited to get MVP's autograph, a fan said something to him and he responded with, "That means a lot coming from a fan wearing a John Cena t-shirt." That was cool, lol. Next was Miz, not much happened there. The finally, Maria. She was really sweet and so beautiful. I was ver lucky to get a hug from her, but was unable to get a picture with her because my camera didn't have any film left in it.

Before the show officially ended, Jimmy Hart reminded everyone that they would be returning August 24th to host the finals for the "WWE's Biggest Fan Contest" and that the guest judges would be John Cena, Batista, Randy Orton, Kristal, and Lillian Garcia. Like I said earlier, I was unable to film my submition for the contest, but I was try my best to make to this show so that I will finnally get meet Cena and Orton.

Once again, thank you Tammy for telling me about this. If there's anything I can do to re-pay you please let me know.

Thank you for taking the time to read my rambling. Have a nice day.

Why am I a Wrestling Fan?

Friday, April 18, 2008, 10:13 PM EST [General]

Anyone that knows anything about me knows that I am a huge wrestlnig fan. Some people think it's cool and others don't and the ones the don't like it always ask me, "Why do you love wrestling so much?" If you are one of those people, this blog is for you.

I started watching wrestling in 1989 or 1990. My oldest brother, Jorge, was a big fan and got me into watching it with him. At first I didn't really know what I was watching, but I liked it because it was fun. Then, as I got a little older, I began to understand it more and fell in love with the sport; yes, I said sport. I got really attached to the characters and tried to immitate them as we all do when we're young. I became a fan of men like Hulk Hogan, Randy "Macho Man" Savage, Junkyard Dog, Bret "Hit Man" Hart, Shawn Michaels, Marty Jennetty, Jake "the Snake" Roberts, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, and Mr. Perfect; I wanted to be just like them.

When I became a teenager, I learned about the business side of professional wrestling and I learned a little bit about who the people I watched on my tv every week really are. I learned about the sacrifices they make to entertain fans like me everynight. I learned about the struggles that they go through just get the chance to have one match on tv. I learned about the physical, mental, and emotional pain they go through everyday. The heartache they feel everytime they say good-bye to their families, not knowing when they would see them again. Suddenly, they were no longer just characters that entertained me 3 or 4 times a week on tv. They were real people and they became my heroes, my inspiration to live out my dreams, they became a big part of my life.

Now, as an adult, I appreciate the athletism, the storytelling, the drama, and the hard work these men and women put forth to entertain me every week. I'm inspired by men like Edge, Chris Jericho, Matt Hardy, Gregory Helms, Kurt Angle, Mick Foley, and John Cena who are living out their dreams everyday of their lives. I hope to one day live out my dreams too.

I hope now you all understand why I love wrestling so much and why I get offended when people talk $h!+ about it. So next time I say something to you related to wrestling try not to say the wrong thing to me, okay?

Thank you, have a nice day.
