Feast 2: Sloppy Seconds
All I have to say is,
wow, what a huge disappointment this turned out to be. The first film
was great, it had comedy, action, cool characters, nice practical
creature FX and loads of gore. This movie, however, is just one big
mess. It's almost as if the writers and director just straight-up ran
out of ideas and just pitted these characters in random situations to
fill up the running time.
So the story continues immediately
after the first. Diane Goldner returns, as we're revealed that the
"Harley Mom" from the first flick was her twin sister. Dubbed "Biker
Queen" she and the rest of her gang of female bikers head to the
nearest town, where she's looking to get some sort of vengeance out of
the death of her sis. Unbeknownst to them, the town is also under siege
by these creatures. "Honey Pie" also returns in this film. Many may
remember her taking off in the big truck, leaving everyone behind in
the bar.
The "Bartender" is the last familiar lead character to
return. He somehow survived the events that unfolded in the previous
movie's climax and is riding along-side the bikers. This feature also
introduces some new characters that we're supposed to care about -- a
couple annoying car salesmen, a couple dwarf wrestlers, and some crazy
religious chick. None of which are the least bit as interesting as the
ones shown in its predecessor. All these new characters and even the
returning ones are incredibly annoying, leaving me to not care if any
of'em survives by the end or not.
Like I said above, the movie
is just a bunch of pointless sequences and we're left with a lot of
plot-holes. Instead of everyone trying to come up with an idea on how
to leave the infested town, they instead decide to figure out a way
into the nearby small police headquarters, claiming it's the "safest
place to be." Regardless of whether it's safe or not, I don't see why
they'd even want to hold up in a confined area again, when they can
simply steal one of the many abandoned cars along the road and just
take off.
As for pointless sequences go, I can think of two that
are beyond pointless -- the first involving one of the car salesmen
deciding to dissect one of the dead creatures for no real reason. This
eventually leads to a lot of green goo, vomit, blood, ****, and semen
being thrown around and for what? It's clear that their aim was to just
gross out the viewers, but instead, it makes us (me anyway) just wonder
why they even bothered, as it proved to offer no merit to the story
aside from maybe one small tidbit revealed after all that mayhem.
Another
scene I really despised was once again a scene that seemed to only
exist just to cross boundaries and attempt to "shock" the audience. One
of the characters decides to help rescue a crying baby trapped in a
car. Well he does, and as he realizes he can't escape the creatures
while carrying the baby, he gives up and decides to throw it in the air
and let the beasts have at-it. WTF!? What the hell was even the point
of him getting the kid if he was just going to give it up?
Then
there's the FX. With a lower budget than the previous film, this one
definitely suffered in practical and computer generated effects. Since
a majority of movie takes place during the day, we see just how fake
these creatures look, but the biggest problem lies within the horrible
CGI. Blood splatters and obviously green-screen backdrops, this movie
is just a CGI disaster towards the end.
All negative aside,
there were a few moments where I was somewhat entertained, plus there's
still a good amount of gore, it just doesn't look as good as it once
did. In fact, a lot of the movie looks worse than its predecessor.
Supposedly filmed back-to-back with Feast 3: The Happy Finish, if this
is any indication where the next installment is headed, count me out. I
had high hopes for this Feast trilogy, but this sequel has pretty much
ruined everything for me.
OVERALL
This movie turned out
to be a huge disappointment for me. Not only was it filled with
plot-holes, but many of the scenes seemed to only exist to shock or
disgust viewers and offer little-to-nothing to the story itself. With
low-grade comedy and even lower production values and FX, not even the
gore could save this one. Fans of the first will be sorely disappointed
and I'd recommend just pretending this sequel never happened.
Man
that kinda sucks....Feast was great. And even though these are written
by the same guys, I guess it just isn't the same without Kevin Smith.
