    Soph's SmackDown Summation 7/25/08

Saturday, July 26, 2008, 07:35 PM GMT [General]

Hey guys and welcome to another edition of Soph's Smackdown Summation.  First of all I have to apologise.  I didn't write a GAB review or a RAW review as unfortunately dear readers I have been sick the past couple days.  The heat certainly didn't help out and the looming deadline for my research plan next week.  But I'm back and better than ever.  Waits for gimmick infringement letter.........I hope you guys have found many ways to cool down from the heat and I hope that all you who have not seen The Dark Knight do so immediatly.  I saw it on Thursday and it was AWESOME.  Anyway onwards and upwards to the Smackdown Summation.

Overall it was a pretty good show.  The show goes from strength to strength and when Triple H is on the show more than his two minute fleeting appearance after his baby is born the show will be outstanding.  Smackdown by far has the best commentary team in JR and Mrs Foley's Baby Boy and the two will only get better if that's possible.  Speaking of Triple H's baby I read a funny comparison between Steph and Bonnie from Family Guy.

On to Smackdown and the show kicked off with MVP's VIP lounge and from what it seems MVP is back as fully heel MVP.  This week's guest was none other than Jeff Hardy and the segment got a little, lets say, personal.  I was suprised that Hardy allowed them to talk about the suspension, house fire and his dogs death but this was a great segment that planted the seeds of a MVP/Hardy feud.  Remember folks this is the WWE.  You may try and kill your enemies with cars but never talk about their dead dog.  That's just wrong.

Shelton Benjamin v Jimmy Wang Yang:  Nothing much to say about this match, it was simply a squash with Benjamin picking up the win with the Paydirt.  Well Yang, after a suspension what did you expect.

Segment time and the new tag team champions Ryder and Hawkins like totally brushed off Edge.  Question-does anyone care about Hawkins and Ryder still?  Didn't think so.

Festus v Hawkins: Predictable match with Festus picking up the win.  One half of the tag champs didn't lose credibility though with a post match beatdown of Festus after the bell rang.

A Generation Rescue package aired which of course as you all know by now is teaming up with the WWE for Saturday Night's Main Event.  WWE's charity work is something that needs more commending by the media.

Another segment with Edge and Alicia.  Edge told her she needed to blend in more and he would discuss things with her later.  But oh no Bam Neeley was listening!  Goodness!

Vladimir Koslov v Stevie Richards:  Richards got a great home town pop but was jobbed out to Koslov.  Richards put a large amount of offence in and gained a couple near falls but the Moscow Mauler was too much and got the win.  After he went up to the announce team and demmanded more serious competition which is a great sign for the future of the impressive Koslov.

Great Khali v Big Show v Mr Kennedy v MVP v Jeff Hardy v Umaga:  Now any of these competitors would be great in a match with Triple H at Summerslam apart from Khali.  Guess who wins.  This was a good match with all the guys getting some action in.  It was very back and forth and very entertaining for a six man battle royale.  Some feuds were sown here which was great to see and the last two competitors were the obvious future title contender Hardy and Khali.  The match was great.  Until the end when Khali eliminated Hardy. Urgh, the crowd looked in dispair.  So did I.  Having looked at people's opinion of the HHH v Khali match at Summerslam it had a lot of negative reaction.  Well, I guess if anyone can get a good match out of Khali its Triple H.  We had Triple H's only appearance in the show when he came down to confron Khali.  Then Khali went and so did Trips.

Next up we had a R-Truth vignette.  I am really looking forward to him joining SD as he is incredibly talented.  Plus a lot of the audience dont remember him from his K-Kwik days.  I do.  Does that make me old?  He seemed very fresh and they obviously have big plans for him.

Michelle v Maryse:  Dear god that belt.  It doesn't get any prettier and it was rather disconcerting seeing it bounce up and down on her waist despite being fastened on the tightest fastener.  Can Taker tell her to eat a sandwich.  Please.  Michelle won with the heel hook by the way.

RAW Rebound next followed by a Maria promo.  She's coming next week.  Next we had a backstage segment when Bam, yes I know.  He speaks shockingly, said to Edge that Vickie had arrived.  Edge said he needed to apologise in public.

Brian Kendrick w/Ezeikel v Shannon Moore: Good match here with Kendrick surprisingly solid on the mic.  Needs a little more work though.  This was a nice litlle match with each guy getting in offence.  JR sold Moore's kicks perfectly by reacting to them mid sentence but Kendrick got Sliced Bread No.2 which is now known as the Kendrick fro the win.  JR compared Kendrick to Brian Pillman.  No pressure there then.

Backstage Bam passed along Edge's request to Vickie to meet him in the ring. Or at least I think he said that.  I think Bam got confused.

Last segment of the evening and Edge came out to apologise to Victoria.  Not that one, Vickie.  I know Edge has a bit of a reputation but come on!  Edge said that it was Alicia that came onto him and he 'refused' all her advances but those conviniently on the video. After Edge apologising Vickie made her way down.  The camera zoned in on Vickie and her Amy Winehouse inspired eyeliner.  Vickie said she understood Edge and they hugged.  But she turned her head as he tried to kiss her saying 'Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned'.  That's true guys, dont mess with us!  Vickie said she reinstated the Undertaker which was met by a massive pop.  She then said it was going to be Edge v Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell.  Then she laughed like a witch and it went off the air.  It'll be certainly interesting to see how a HIAC will work with a PG rating.  Mick Foley might have urges to jump off it whilst doing commentary for it, who knows.  I do hope this feud finally ends here.  Its gone on too long and needs to end here.  This was a great closing segment and both Edge and Vickie were great.  The show was a very good show, and although I'd like to see more Triple H rather then a two minute appearance each week, its understandable why Michael Hayes has him in a reduced role at the moment.

So there you go guys.  Hope you enjoyed the review and see you again in Tues for the RAW Review!

    Catch you later

I think that last night's show is getting all the WWE fans all excited for SummerSlam PPV this year cause there will be Hell in a Cell Edge v. The Undertaker and HHH v. The Great Khali which oughtta be a great match for SummerSlam and Vickie reinstating Undertaker is the icing on the cake. I am glad to hear you are all better now because I have really missed you reviews on all the WWE shows. I hope your having a great weekend and I hope to hear back from ya.

I thought the VIP lounge segment was extremely uncomfortable and in poor taste. There could have been other ways to set up that rivalry (maybe by bringing in the past rivalry between MVP and Matt Hardy). I thought it came across in a counter-productive way.

So if Kendrick is the new Pillman, does that mean that he's going to yank out his Johnson in the ring?
