Ok, so i dont think everyone or really anyone is paying any attention to the forums as they can just click reply at page one and post what they feel.
With the new PG rating that WWE is taking on, ive read in most places that they are kind of taking the WWE back to the 80s a bit and when i watched one of the past John Cena matches i noticed one thing that scared the shxt outta me.
John Cena is the new Hulk Hogan.
now think about this for a minute and read what i have to say before you think or say anything lol.
In 1985, McMahon bought this company, then WWWF and changed it to the WWF. McMahon said that he wasn't going to keep this territorial like most promotions had and said that this promotion was going to be nationwide and it ended up being that way. why? he had his number one guy, Hulk Hogan.
Hulk Hogan was this comic book character or cartoon character hero to the kids and actually most fans all over the nation and he sold so much merchandise, he built the company into what it is along with Vince McMahon and he had some very lengthy title reigns and it was because the kids valued this guy, he was their hero. and look how successful he is even today. He also had his little catchphrase that even the younger kids today should know so i wont repeat it lol
Fast-forward 20 years later, 2005, Wrestlemania 21. John Cena won the WWE Championship and had well known lengthy reigns. He became Vince's number one guy and was brought over to RAW. This guy, even SD! fans, this guy Cena pushed so much merchandise like Hogan had. He had his own little catch phrases, he rocked the old WWF logo only without the F letter, he was pretty much the new hero figure in the eyes of little kids all over the world. not just nationwide.
I think that as they progress with this PG thing, i think that they are reverting back to the 80s and kind of molding certain wrestlers into the 80s stars Vince had. Batista, seriously, could he be more of an Ultimate Warrior? Randy Orton is obviously the new Randy Savage minus the flashy colors but he just looks so much like him, not by his looks, but his image and when i saw the Orton/Cena programs, i looked at it in the perspective of Hogan vs Savage and i swear that one day, Orton and Cena will be tag team champions and their image to me will end up looking like the Mega Powers.
This PG rating might make WWE wrestling look like the 80s but heres another thing, i honestly thing Vince wants to do a complete U-turn on the companys vision of the future and revert back to most of the past moments by recreating them but not. if that makes any sense. Will it work? possibly, it worked then. and heres the thing though, lately, WWE isnt too concerned with ratings. but now that they are a bit further in pushing the idea for WWE to target kids, they might start getting back to the good stuff and i hope that really happens sooner than later.
Your thoughts?
