Say It Ain't So, The Retirement Of HBK

Wednesday, November 19, 2008, 08:41 AM EST [General]

We've all been wondering the same, scary, but oh so important question that's been lingering in our minds since 2002, will The Heartbreak Kid, Shawn Michaels ever retire. It might be next month and it might be next year, (ha, imagine that, first Flair in 08', then Shawn in 09', I don't think I can take it anymore) Look, of course it would be a great loss if we lost The Showstopper, but that's just it, it would be a loss to us, but a gain to his wife and children, and his sore broken back.

Face it, we definetly need Shawn Michaels more than he needs us. But don't think that I'm saying that he doesn't love the fans, that's the reason he puts his body on the line every single night and day. I just feel that he possibly might have made the best of his professional career.

He appeared on the very first RAW, being one of two left to do so, along with The Deadman, he beat Bret Hart at Wrestlemania XII, in one of the best wrestling matches that I've ever seen in my life. He revolutionized the Ladder, Hell in a Cell, and Elimination Chamber matches, and he has made more memories than possibly anyone in this business. But in 1996, he suffered a horrible injury in a Casket Match against The Undertaker, and in the middle of the match, he hit the edge of his spine on a steel corner of the ring steps, and suffered a broken back as a result. After years of depression, and at times, suicidal thoughts, he was finally through with the company. But in 2002, he found saving grace, Christ. While in the worst period in his life, he found Christianity, and he awoke a new man. Now serving as a spiritual leader in his local church, where his students see him as a father figure, he can see the beauty of his wonderful life, and fully enjoy it. He soon returned to the ring after a 4 year hiatus from the thing he loves most, the WWE. After that, he won the World Heavyweight Championship from Triple H, in the very first Elimination Chamber match. Fast forward a couple years and he is still kickin' butt on RAW, but he has mentioned retirement in several magazine articles, and in WWE Magazine, he even stated that for Christmas, he wanted to stay with his wife, Rebecca, and his kids, Cameron and Cheyenne, for 6 years straight.

So I believe that we better get ready for his retirement, officially. We will all be sad to hear of news of his departure, but think of the wonderful things that he would feel, see, and recieve, like a surefire entrance into the WWE Hall of Fame in a couple of years, tops. So let's not be selfish and wish that he never retire, because just study one of his matches now. He is obviously in pain, but he's doing it for us. So with that, let's hope that the greatest wrestler, and the most charismatic, special, and amazing human being ever, can find his exit from the best, but most stressful company in the world, a pleasant and easy one.

    Sincerely, Stupid Squirrel
