    WHEN ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE

Sunday, October 4, 2009, 03:08 PM EST [General]

Six things you didn't know about the first ever Hell In A Cell

    1. HELL COMES TO WWE   The stipulation premiered on October 5, 1997, at the now-defunct pay-per-view Badd Blood. The PPV resurfaced in 2003 and 2004, but all three featured a Hell in a Cell main-event match (10/5/97- Shawn Michaels vs Undertaker; 6/13/03- Triple H vs Kevin Nash; 6/19/04- Triple H vs Shawn Michaels).

    2. BIG RED MONSTER   The 10/5/97 Hell in a Cell Match featured Kane's WWE debut, and it saw him rip the door off the cell's hinges and deliver a Tombstone to his brother, Undertaker, costing him the match.

    3. ACROPHOBIA   HBK fell from the Cell and crashed through the Spanish announce table. Battling atop the structure is now something of a Cell tradition. However, no one has wone atop the Cell since Triple H pinned Chris Jericho up there during 2002's Judgment Day.

    4. THE GROUNDBREAK KID   Shawn Michaels might be the unofficial guinea pig for testing out stipulation matches in WWE. Aside from fighting in the first Hell in a Cell, HBK also had the honor of competing in WWE's first Iron Man, Eliminaion Chamber and Ladder Matches.

    5. LORDS OF THE CELL   There have been 16 Hell in a Cell contests, and either Triple H or Undertaker has appeared in all but one of them. The exception was a match held during te 8/24/98 episode of Raw, in which Mankind fought Kane to a No Contest.

    6. STAY GOLDEN   Shawn Michaels was European Champion heading into the 10/5/97 match with The Deadman, but his title was not on the lie. In face, only six Hell in a Cell Matches have featured Championship defenses, and a title has never changed hands inside the hellacious structure. So, if you're holding gold, rest easy. Or don't.

EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT CLASSIC SUPERSTARS AND LEGENDS

Saturday, July 11, 2009, 09:06 PM EST [General]

Everything You Wanted To Know About Classic Superstars and Legends

17: Casket Matches Undertaker has contested in his career. The Phenom has stuffed Kamala, Yokozuna, Kama Mustafa, King Mable, Mankind, The Rock, Heidenreich, Mark Henry, Chavo Guerrero and Big Show inside the wooden prison.

1991: The year that Survivor Series featured its first one-on-one match, which pitted Undertaker versus Hulk Hogan. In his first title match, the Deadman defeated the Hulkster for the WWE title.

17: The years separating the only Career Threatening Matches to occur to at WrestleMania. Randy Savage was retired by the Ultimate Warrior at WM 7 and Ric Flair was retired by Shawn Michaels at WM 24.

81: Superstars, Divas, Announcers and celebrities who have been inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame since its inception in 1993.

25: Years Piper's Pit has been going strong. The infamous interview segment has outlived all other wrestling talk shows, including The Funeral Parlor.

2: Times Hulk Hogan has had his crucifix necklace torn off by a rival. Undertaker ripped away the cross during a Funeral Parlor segment, and Andre the Giant snatched the chain before their epic WM 3 showdown, on Piper's Pit in early 1987.

56: Years of Wrestling Entertainment provided by the McMahon family (to date). In 1953, Vincent J. McMahon took control of Capitol Wrestling Corporation, which evolved into World Wrestling Entertainment under the Chairman's aegis.

3: Wrestling Supercards held at Shea Stadium by WWE. Long before, WrestleMania, WWE hosted a trio of megashows at the former home of the New York Mets in 1972, 1976, and 1980. Andre the Giant, Pedro Morales, Gorilla Monsoon, The Fabulous Moolah and even Muhammad Ali battled at the WM precursors.

8: Sons of famous promoter and trainer Stu Hart who became wrestlers. Of his 12 children, every man wrestled, including Bret and Owen Hart. Of his five daughters, all married wrestlers, including the British Bulldog and Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart.

59 Minutes, 26 Seconds: Length of Ric Flair's appearance in the 1992 Royal Rumble Match. Flair won the Rumble, along with the vacant WWE Championship, in what is considered by many to be the most star-studded Royal Rumble Match in WWE history.

    DID YOU KNOW...?

Long before they tied up in the ring, Mr. Perfect and "Ravishing" Rick Rude raised hell in the hallways of Minnesota's Robbinsdale High School as classmates. The school can also claim Nikita Koloff and Barry Darsow as alumni. Weird.

Tito Santana's finishing move was misnamed so many by television announcers that most viewers forgot it's original name. Tito explains, "It was always called the Flying Forearm, but after a while Jesse Ventura and Bobby Heenan started calling it the 'Flying Burrito,' and that caught on. But I didn't care."

When Ric Flair debuted in WWE, he still held the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. All World Champions were obligated to put down a $25,000 title deposit. When Flair left, this fee was not returned to him- so he claimed rightful ownership of the title. In time, the belt was returned to WCW, but only after Naitch was repaid...with interest.

EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT WWE PAY-PER-VIEWS

4: Years since WWE last held a ppv event in a new state-Unforgiven in Oklahoma City, OK; 9/18/05.

13: WrestleMania's in which Triple H has competed-only four short of Undertaker's record number.

1,500: Miles of wire and cable used to power the ridiculously elaborate lights at WM 25, or roughly the distance between New York and Dodge City, KS.

62 Minutes, 12 Seconds: Length, in minutes and seconds, of Rey Mysterio's record run at the 2006 Royal Rumble Match. Mysterio drew No. 2 and went on to win it all. (Miami, FL; 1/29/06).

39 Minutes, 20 Seconds: Length of the Elimination Chamber Match at the 2002 Survivor Series, the longest such bout since the stip was introduced.

25,000: Pyro shells used to usher Superstars to the ring at WM 25.

    DID YOU KNOW...?

The first Royal Rumble Match in 1988 was the shortest in the event's history, clocking in at only 33 minutes. Part of the reason was that it featured only 20 Superstars instead of today's standard 30.

Undertaker had not beaten either Edge or Shawn Michaels before his matches with them at WM 24 and WM 25 respectively.
