Spotlight - Ernest "The Cat" Miller

Wednesday, January 28, 2009, 01:33 AM EST [General]

I was reading some information about Mickey Rourke's The Wrestler, when I remembered that Ernest "The Cat" Miller was in the movie.  So I did a Wikipedia search for him that eventually led me to Youtube.  This is what I found:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZatNp8k9ys

Needless to say, I doubled over in laughter at this scene.  It then dawned on me..."I miss The Cat!"

C'mon!  You've got to admit that The Cat was hilarious!  I think I liked The Cat for three main reasons though.

    1) He's from Atlanta, GA
I'm originally from Birmingham, AL, but I work and live in Atlanta.  Birmingham is about 2 hours away from Atlanta, so it's a very short drive.  I say all this b/c since it's still the south, The Cat's mannerisms, vocal patterns, his pronunciation (or lack thereof) of words and vowels, and etc. remind me of my home city; most of the time down here, it's hilarious to hear people say what they gotta say the way they say it.  Also, southern colloquial phrases are always fun to listen to (i.e. "Somebody betta call mah mama!").

    2) His gimmick was classically awful
When he entered WCW, he entered as a 3-time martial arts champion, which he turned out to be in real life.  But the suits decided he'd get over way better if he just danced and proclaimed how great he was.  He brought that gimmick with him to the WWE...it's sad and funny at the same time.

    3) He reminds me of one of my uncles
If you knew this uncle of mine, you'd understand why this is sooooo funny.

Go here to read some info on The Cat.  He was future endeavored by the WWE on Feb. 10th, 2004, for "a lack of enthusiasm to improve his skills as a wrestler and overall performer."  It's a shame that the WWE missed the boat on him, but can you blame a McMahon for wanting to ride on a luxury cruise ship instead of floating on a dinghy?  The Cat was horribly out of shape, and while he received a lot of fanfare in WCW, the WWE crowds didn't not take a cotton to his fancy dancing.  So sad...I laughed all the way until the end.

Since wrestling, Ernest has been dabbling in movies, and according to internet rumors, he's slated to play George Foreman in an upcoming HBO series.  Not to mention he got rave reviews for his role in The Wrestler.  Way to go, Cat!  Somebody better call your mother!

So three cheers to Ernest "The Cat" Miller.

    Hip Hip...

    Hip Hip...

    Hip Hip...aww forget about it.

    Apparently, somebody called his mama...

    RAW Awful

Wednesday, January 28, 2009, 01:06 AM EST [General]

It's late, but I want to blog about something before I lose my creative juices.

Monday's episode of RAW ended in a TNA-esque, anticlimactic fashion that left most of the live audience, and those watching at home, speechless.

For one, we were speechless b/c Shane McMahon made his return to the ring.  On the other hand, we were speechless b/c his attack on Randy Orton and Legacy was...well, for lack of a better term...crappy.

I don't know how you felt about Shane O'Mac's less than impressive return to WWE TV, but he looked way out of shape for my liking.  Something about him just didn't look right.  Also, he essentially manhandled Orton, even though it looked like a rousing game of "Patty-Cake, Patty-Cake" more than a fight between a victim of IED and the grandson of Jess McMahon.

DiBiase and Rhodes proved their worthlessness by not successfully pulling Shane McMahon off of Orton, and if that wasn't enough, Shane O' pulled this phantom punch out of nowhere and laid Orton out in the ring!  Where the hell did that come from?  I don't even the announcers saw that one.  The debacle continued up the ramp, where Shane proceeded to attack the people that were trying to restrain him, including Kofi Kingston, who can apparently survive a match with Kane, but can't take a punch from Shane.  To me, the ending stunk.

The best part of the night had to be, hands down, Santino Marella's commentary and the match between Cena/HBK.  It just bites that the episode fell flat on its face right on the heels of last week's RAW and Sunday's spectacular Royal Rumble ppv.

    Caught Up - Y a Hardy Boyz/E&C Match???

Monday, January 26, 2009, 12:50 AM EST [General]

People are really in denial about this, and I can't understand this.

The common idea now is that Christian Cage was going to be revealed as Jeff's attacker, but Vince McMahon pulled that angle b/c the fans knew about the story.

Okay, remember like, a few months ago or weeks ago when they had the Slammy Awards, and Matt Hardy seemed a little bit too happy for his brother's achievement?

Matt Hardy has been Jeff's attacker ever since this angle was created, and the fans' love for Christian Cage is blinding them to that fact.  I can't understand why this is so, and I really can't understand why everyone wants to see E&C reunite to face the Hardys?  This is really baffling me!  I'm thoroughly confused.

Can you explain it to me...why people are screaming for a tag team match with these four dudes?  Remember, it wasn't too long ago that everyone was yelling and moaning about Jeff winning the title, and as soon as he did, these same fans were commenting on how they didn't see him holding the belt beyond Wrestlemania..so much for the vote of confidence.

But if you've got any solutions, let the kid know!

Matt Hardy Turns Heel and I Was Right!!!!!!!

Sunday, January 25, 2009, 10:55 PM EST [General]

I hate to say I was right.....

So, at what part of the ppv did Christian make an appearance?  I just want to know, b/c maybe I missed it...

I told you that I would admit it when I was wrong, and I'll do that now.  Christian didn't make an appearance in the Royal Rumble, and Swagger/Henry didn't interfere in Jeff Hardy's championship match against Edge.  On that note, I was wrong and I admit it.

    HOWEVER...

Did I not say that Matt Hardy would turn on Jeff?  Did I not say he would lose against Swagger?  Did I not say that now would be a good time for Matt to turn heel?

Remember that "proof" that was sent to me that was supposed to show that Christian was the one who sabotaged Jeff?  I mean, we've yet to see Smackdown or ECW, so we're gonna have to wait to see what happens as far as that's concerned.  HOWEVER...Matt Hardy, much like I said, turned on his brother Jeff, and cost him his WWE Championship.

To quote the Undertaker, "Sometimes you gotta go through hell to get to heaven."  I was right.  I was right.  I was, I was, I was right!  PBBBbLLLLLLTTTTTT!!!!!!!!

    Heel Turn for Matt Hardy?

Sunday, January 25, 2009, 01:17 AM EST [General]

After writing my last blog, it dawned on me that Matt Hardy's character has actually gotten stale, so it would make some decent sense to have him turn heel right around this time.  I figured I'd talk about this a bit before going to bed.

Most people complain that John Cena's character is stale and that his moves are predictable, dated, and old.  I would agree.  I think a heel turn for him, eventually, would do wonders for his character, and even if he debuted a new move, his stock would skyrocket like Space Shuttles.  But if it ain't broke, don't fix it; as long as small children are infatuated with Word Life and Hustle, Loyalty, Respect, then John Cena will stay John Cena.  I can't argue with that either.

But Matt Hardy is a different story altogether.  You see, people are either hot or cold on John Cena - they either like him or they hate him.  Matt Hardy, however, gets a luke warm response from the crowds.  People respect Matt, and people like Matt, but for the most part - and you Hardy Universers can agree with me - Jeff gets most of the "Hardy" fan club members and attention, and Matt get's most of the "Hardy Boyz" fan club members and attention; people only really recognize Matt in relation to Jeff...if they recognize him at all.

And fans wish Matt well; "Reclaim your title Sunday, Matt," they'll comment on his Universe blog.  "You're way better than Swagger!" they say.  'Tis wonderful well-wishing, it is.  Matt seems to me to be that guy that 1000 women will agree is sweet, but only 1 or 2 girls out of 1000 are willing to date him.  Everyone wishes him well, but do you really wanna sit through his match?  A week ago, people were tired of him facing Mark Henry, even though he's put on some stellar matches with the man.  A week ago, people were saying that ECW was a perfect fit for him, even though he's practically beaten everyone on the roster twice.  Be honest, Universers...you don't want to see Matt win.  You want to see him tag with Jeff to face Edge and Christian.  You want to see him become the 2009 version of Marty Jannety.  You want to pat Matt on the back for all his hard work and accomplishments, but reward Jeff for overcoming his own personal demons, leaving the company, and surviving someone's unwarrented attacks.  Remember, Matt was fired for that whole thing with Lita and Edge, and when he returned, he was rewarded by coming out on the losing end of that feud.  Edge becomes a multiple time heavyweight champion, while Matt gets a run with the ECW title.

A heel turn is in the works for Matt Hardy.  I firmly believe it.  If it doesn't pan out to be the truth, then as I've said before, I'll admit to it on here that I was wrong.  But,  Matt's character needs some sort of better reaction from the crowd other than, "Thatta boy."  A feud between him and Jeff would be great for both of them now, despite the popular notion that it wouldn't work b/c it didn't work the last time.  That was years ago, and both are somewhat red hot right now, so I'd go for a Heel Matt.

    We shall see tomorrow...
