    ALLEN IVERSON'S RETIRES FROM THE NBA.??

    Friday, November 27, 2009, 03:09 PM EST [General]

    Unless AI Adjusts Ego, He Should Retire:

    He is, with no apologies to Isiah Thomas, the best little man ever to play the game. Allen Iverson exudes a sinister sort of energy that makes him appealing in every arena, if also polarizing and detestable. He's fun and dynamic and a perpetual conversation piece, always armed with a combustible dagger on and off the court, yet there's a side of him so unnecessarily pigheaded -- "We talkin' about prac-tiss!" -- that you really want to grab his earlobes and shake him.

    I write in the present tense because I don't believe he's retiring from the NBA. What he's doing, in issuing "a statement" to the Web site of journalist Stephen A. Smith, is thumbing his nose at the league that has made him megamillions and tolerated his criminal misdeeds and selfish actions. Because no team has chosen to center its act around him and make him a starter, Iverson picked Thanksgiving Eve as a way of walking away from basketball and selling his case to the American sports public. Sorry, nothing is warm or fuzzy about A.I.'s plight.

    This is a pathetic attempt to control the harsh reality of his career -- he has been shunned because he refuses to accept a supporting role off the bench -- while reminding franchises that he still believes he can play at the optimum performance level. "I always thought that when I left the game, it would be because I couldn't help my team the way that I was accustomed to. However, that is not the case," Iverson wrote to his fans. "I still have a tremendous love for the game, the desire to play, and a whole lot left in my tank. I feel strongly that I can still compete at the highest level."

    So do I. But to do so, Iverson must compromise his ego and spend the holidays pondering how to reinvent himself at 34. If he truly were to go out this way, it would be a bizarre and unhappy ending for a man who entered the season with the fifth-highest career scoring average (27.1 points a game) in NBA history. Right now, his legacy is more troubled than triumphant, his career remembered more for controversy than celebration. I'm not even sure I'd put him in the Hall of Fame at the moment -- that's how far things have plunged for a guard whose last two gigs, in Memphis and Detroit, ended with his poison splattered everywhere.

    To put a conquering ribbon and bow on his body of work, then, he must come back on another team's terms. And he must do so with a real contender, not a straggling team like the 5-10 Grizzlies, where his angry psyche would have rotted away on a team of young players in a town that isn't into the franchise. The Celtics, of all teams, have leaked interest in Iverson. This should excite him, make him realize he could change the way we view him by accepting a role with a team likely headed to the Eastern Conference finals, if not farther. But just the same, he has to acknowledge that he'll be a fifth or sixth wheel on that team and might not receive the minutes he wants. Rajon Rondo, the incumbent point guard who was so breathlessly brilliant in the playoffs, needs the ball and the playing time. Paul Pierce needs the ball. Ray Allen needs the ball. Kevin Garnett needs the ball. Rasheed Wallace needs the ball. Glen Davis, when he returns, needs the ball. It means Iverson won't have the ball that much.

    Can his ego handle it? If so, sign in Boston and contribute much as Gary Payton did in the latter stages of his career. Payton, a more complete guard than Iverson, embraced a lesser role with several teams and finally won an NBA championship with Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O'Neal in Miami. With finality, Payton allowed us to grasp his rousing successes -- one of the greatest defensive guards of all time, nicknamed "The Glove," and an offensive force in his prime -- and certified himself as a Hall of Famer. He, too, had character issues, but that's down the list now. Iverson needs to find the Payton handbook, study it, grow up, play his 20 minutes a game and accept his 10 shots a game.

    If he can't, he should stay retired. The game doesn't need him nearly as much as he needs the game.

    "It's sad man, especially coming from a guy that's close to me and a friend," said Carmelo Anthony, his friend and former Denver teammate. "To see him go out the way he's going out right now, it's not like he wants to go out, he's almost being forced to retire. It's a bad situation right now. It was just, he got dealt a bad hand from when he went to Detroit up to right now. Everything kind of spiraled downhill. I never want to see nobody go through nothing like that, especially a guy with his talent, somebody who can still go out there and be productive."

    At this point, Iverson needs friends who won't feed his head with what he wants to hear. He needs a slap in the face -- and how interesting that his old Georgetown coach and life mentor, John Thompson, is against the idea of retirement and has set up a meeting with Iverson after speaking with him Wednesday night. When word of his departure spread through the league, almost every reaction included a comment that this is a bad way to go out. Another contender that could sign him is Cleveland, which needs scoring help for LeBron James. Why do you think James wasn't ready to accept Iverson's "announcement" upon hearing it?

    "His legacy would be huge," James said. "He's one of the best when you talk about guys 6-foot and under in the game of basketball. He played injured and he played hard every single night. I don't think it should end this way, but if it does, he's left a lot of great things behind."

    "I don't ever believe anyone retires until they get to the point they have to," said Boston's Doc Rivers, his would-be coach. "He had a great career if it is true, but I still think he has more to offer."

    Said George Karl, Iverson's former coach in Denver: "I think he still has something left to give some team out there. If that's his decision, he'll go down in history, I think, as the greatest little guard ever to play the game of basketball. I was happy to have him for a couple years, and hopefully our paths will cross. But I have a sneaky feeling that somewhere along the way, an injury or a circumstance with a team will open that window back up."

    Of course, it will. It's just a matter of when the light bulb flips on in a pouter's head and which team commands enough of his respect to make the experiment work. Would he respect James and O'Neal in Cleveland? Not unless he realized LeBron will be dominating fourth quarters and taking every last shot, forcing Iverson to be another witness in the building. Would he respect the Celtics? Not unless he agreed to be a spot shooter in specific situations. The Lakers? It's Kobe Bryant's team, Kobe Bryant's ball, Kobe Bryant's show. Denver? If it didn't work before, why would it work now with rookie Ty Lawson proving to be a huge find in the backcourt?

    Miami? Wade would make sure he blends in and becomes the No. 2 option, but the Heat aren't remotely near the championship level. New York? That would be an even sadder finale than even Memphis, with Iverson serving as aging, watered-down entertainment in Madison Square Garden while the awful Knicks await the 2010 free-agency bonanza. No, he needs to compete for a title in May and June. Otherwise, he shouldn't bother returning. His legacy would be one of individual greatness and team underachievement, along with an edgy flamboyance that advanced tattoos as an NBA fashion constant -- remember when the league tried to airbrush his tats out of a photo early in his career? -- and injected hip-hop culture into the sport. If this really is it, these would be The Answer's final words ...

    "Stepping away from the game will allow me to spend quality time with my wife and kids. This is a reward that far exceeds anything that I've ever achieved on the basketball court. I have prayed for this day and I see it as my greatest gift.

    "I want to thank the people of Reebok International Ltd., for always allowing me to be me and for supporting me my whole career through all the ups and downs. I have enjoyed 13 wonderful seasons in the NBA, and I am grateful.

    "I want to first acknowledge my fans everywhere, who have been with me throughout my entire career. Without you, there would be no me. You should all know that I appreciate your support from the bottom of my heart. Thank you!

    "To Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, Charles Barkley and Larry Bird, you guys gave me the vision to play the game that will be forever in my heart.

    "To my Mom, who encouraged and inspired me to play every day, and to all of my family and friends who stood by me from the beginning. Thank you!

    "To my high school coach, Michael Bailey, Coach John Thompson at Georgetown University, Coach Larry Brown and to all of my other coaches, teammates, administrators, owners and staff who've been a part of my career, Thank you as well!

    "I'd like to give a special thanks to the people of Memphis. I never played a home game for your beloved Grizzlies, but I want you to know how much I appreciate the opportunity given me by a great owner in Michael Heisley, and the support of the city. I wish the Memphis Grizzlies' organization all of the success that the game has to offer.

    "And finally, to the city of Philadelphia: I have wonderful memories of my days in a Sixers' uniform. To Philly fans, thank you. Your voice will always be music to my ears.

    "God Bless all of you, ALLEN IVERSON."

    He actually sounds humble and classy in the "statement." Now, transfer that tone to his competitive ego, and maybe, just maybe, this is a legacy that still can be rescued.

    AND NOW THOUGHTS FROM THE MAN OF THE HOUR:

    [Quote "the league that has made him megamillions and tolerated his criminal misdeeds and selfish actions."]

    The league has capitalized on Iverson's talent too AND he's made the league megamillions too - in box office draws and apparel sales, so to glibly act as if the league did A.I. a favor by letting play forgets that his talent sustained him in the league AND that league profited from his talent as well.

    Simply stating that b/c Iverson didn't want to play behind an unservicable Conley at horrid Memphis or a GM guy Stuckey in the rapidly declining Detroit, represents selfishness really misses the point... the truth even: that he belonged on the floor either with those guys in Detroit/Memphis or instead of them, but certainly not buried behind them. Not if the team had the goal to win. While you may say it's the coaches decision (and it is) at what point do you acknowledge that these coaches (noting that Curry was ousted after his first year) might actually have made bonehead decisions by not playing him in the way to which he is accustomed. In the way in which he has been successful for other teams. Just B/C you might dislike A.I. or his attitude or his style of play or whatever, doesn't mean his expectations when signing with Memphis and his demands for more P/T while there were unreasonable. And given the circumstances any coach worth his salt will play a guy with A.I.'s ability, instead of dropping games with less able, less proven players. If not. That coach does not intend to win. That is a scandal. Were these coaches fixing games then?

    You know A.I. should have been getting P/T in Memphis and Detroit. Seriously. Question the coaches and their motives, not the guy who wants to play, can play and should play.

    P.S. Ego's abound in the NBA from officials, to front offices, to players... so please stop projecting the idea that A.I. has such an ego and the league is "so" put of by it... cultural bias may also be at play in the A.I. / NBA / media situation IMO.

    If Iverson wants to play again,he has to accept that he is not going to be the face of a franchise anywhere in this league.I hope he does accept that fact and continues to play.I always loved watching his energy and hustle.He needs to be in a lesser role now and I can't think of a better situation than in Cleveland.They already need backcourt help and they NEED his scoring off the bench.He could actually start a lot of games at either Guard spot.He just wouldn't be THE regular starter but he would still play a major role for the Cavs just about every night.IF A.I. comes to his senses,he won't find a better opportunity to redeem his legacy and possibly get a ring.As it stands right now,Cleveland does not have enough firepower to get a Title,but they certainly would with a motivated Iverson as a 6th man and more.They should both be on the phone right now to each other trying to get this deal done.

    He "retired" as if he had a choice. There wasnt a team that wanted him... so if noone wants you then you cant play...... sounds life that was his only choice. Now i truley believe that we can take a positive from every negative, and kids you must understand that a bad player with a good attitude will go farther and have a better career than a great player with a bad attitude! This is your proof!

    SURVIVOR SERIES HIGHLIGHTS

    Sunday, November 22, 2009, 11:19 PM EST [General]

    * TEAM MIZ def, TEAM MORRISON:

    — To the surprise of many in the WWE Universe, United States Champion The Miz, Drew McIntyre, Jack Swagger, Sheamus & Dolph Ziggler were able to put their major egos aside and work together to take down the explosive squad of Intercontinental Champion John Morrison, Matt Hardy, Finlay, Evan Bourne & Shelton Benjamin in the opening bout of Survivor Series.

    The match began with Raw rivals Evan Bourne and Jack Swagger squaring off in the center of the ring and quickly turned to chaos from there. Pinfalls quickly piled up as Superstars from each brand clashed, including a showdown between the tough Irishmen Sheamus and Finlay, which The Celtic Warrior won with a devastating front kick.

    When the dust began to settle, John Morrison found himself alone and outnumbered against the seriously terrifying triumvirate of The Miz, Sheamus and Drew McIntyre. Throwing caution to the wind, The Shaman of Sexy attempted to overcome the odds with his explosive offense, but he simply couldn’t handle three vicious competitors at once. In the end, Morrison was slammed to the mat by The Celtic Warrior and pinned, giving Team Miz the victory.

    The Miz has now racked up two consecutive pay-per-view victories over his former tag team partner. Obviously, this does not sit well with The Guru of Greatness and you can expect these two talented young Superstars to meet again.

    * BASTISA def, REY MYSTERIO:

    - At Survivor Series, Batista unleashed the full extent of his unrelenting fury on his former friend Rey Mysterio, administering a merciless attack that left the official no choice but to stop the match.

    Though the high-octane Mysterio showed the WWE Universe every bit of his heart from the opening bell, battling for the offensive with everything he had, the enraged Animal would eventually descend upon his prey with absolute havoc. In the final moments of the match, the fans erupted as Mysterio looked to be heading to a huge victory of redemption with the 619.  However, as Mysterio attempted to channel the late Eddie Guerrero with a follow up frog splash, Batista’s raised knees signaled the beginning of a shocking end.

    The vicious Animal proceeded to level Mysterio with an earth-shattering spear, a thunderous spinebuster and three devastating Batista Bombs, never once going for a cover. It was clear that he had no interest in simply winning. He wanted Mysterio to be humiliated. Even after the official attempted to end the relentless punishment by signaling for the bell, Batista’s rampage continued with the execution of a riveting post match spinebuster onto an unforgiving steel chair. Mysterio was left in agonizing pain at the hands of a Superstar that once meant everything to him.

    Standing side by side, the two former World Champions have won tag team gold  grieved the loss of a “family member”  and forged a powerful bond in numerous squared circle battles. But when both Superstars, along with  were selected to challenge World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker at WWE Bragging Rights in a Fatal Four Way Match, the fuse was lit for an explosive parting of ways.

    In a match where every Superstar would be for himself, Mysterio stopped Batista from a possible pin over The Deadman. The Undertaker went on to triumph, pinning Batista with a devastating Tombstone. Only seconds later, in a horrific moment that the WWE Universe will never forget, The Animal suddenly snapped, attacking  the stunned Master of the 619 with an indescribable assault.

    Five days later on SmackDown, Mysterio tried to mend the mighty rip in their heartfelt alliance, but Batista would have none of it. Convinced his closest ally cost him the World Title, the stone-faced Superstar walked out of the ring with more rage in his eyes than ever before.

    When SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long made a match between the two former friends at Survivor Series, things went from bad to worse. At the official contract signing, The Animal demanded that Mysterio sign a “Hold Harmless Agreement,” preventing legal action against him for anything he might do to his opponent at the pay-per-view. After reluctantly signing it, The Ultimate Underdog proceeded to humiliate his newfound adversary, flipping the signing table onto him, adding insult to injury as he stepped onto it while making his exit.

    Two days before their pay-per-view showdown, after Batista cost Mysterio his match with Tyson Kidd by disqualification, the masked Superstar found an opening to dish out another embarrassing hit-and-run attack on the man he once called a brother. An irate Batista failed to catch Mysterio and was left with nothing but egg on his face for the second week in a row.

    Though Mysterio was bound and determined to show Batista a side of him he has never seen before at Survivor Series, in the end, his heart was not enough to overcome the furious bite of The Animal. And now that Batista has released his insane wrath upon a Superstar he once called family, no one on SmackDown is safe.

    * TEAM KOFI def, TEAM ORTON:

    Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Matches are always competitive, but rarely are they as closely contested as the epic battle between Team Kingston and Team Orton. Though each of the 10 competitors fought hard, ultimately, it was Team Captain Kofi Kingston himself that carried the day, pinning his nemesis, and last remaining competitor, Randy Orton to win the match for his team.

    CM Punk def. R-Truth by pinfall

    UNDERTAKER def, THE BIG SHOW AND CHRIS JERICHO TO RETAIN THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP:

    The Unified Tag Team Champions could not work together to take down Undertaker. Instead, the World Heavyweight Champion locked Big Show in Hell's Gate to retain his title.

    Although Big Show and Chris Jericho both hold Unified Tag Team Championship gold, they want something more – Undertaker’s World Heavyweight Title.

    At WWE Bragging Rights, Big Show started laying the foundation for his quest by turning his back on Team Raw. And although he suffered the wrath of fellow Raw members just a day later, by Friday Night SmackDown, The World’s Largest Athlete had already secured a signed contract to face The Undertaker at Survivor Series.

    On that same edition of SmackDown, Chris Jericho defeated Kane to also qualify to face The Phenom – officially making it a Triple Threat Match.

    Since winning the Unified Title at Night of Champions, the tag team champs have been on a roll, tearing through a slew of formidable opponents. But now, they must face not only each other, but their greatest challenge of all – The Demon of Death Valley.

    Ever since winning the Heavyweight Title at Hell in a Cell, The Undertaker has showed no signs of letting up. At WWE Bragging Rights, the champion overcame the odds and successfully defended his gold against CM Punk, Batista & Rey Mysterio in a Fatal Four Way Match.

    If The Phenom can take on three opponents and win, surely he can do the same against two. But, at 485-plus-pounds, one could argue that Big Show counts as two Superstars.

    Can Jericho or Big Show find a way to topple The Undertaker? Or, will The Phenom make his opponents regret even stepping in the ring with him? He already did.

    * TEAM MICKIE def, TEAM MICHELLE:

    - Mickie James, on one hand, escaped the Verizon Center a searing survivor. The smart, sexy and powerful Diva, on the other hand, left yearning for further retribution.

    Captain James, along with her partner and Divas Champion Melina, prevailed in Sunday’s Divas Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match despite Beth Phoenix not accepting her elimination. The Glamazon assaulted Mickie before the official finally forced her to exit.

    In the preceding weeks, Beth, along with Layla and team captain and Women’s Champion Michelle McCool, affronted James with vicious insults. The devious trio, in fact, labeled her a “pig,” causing the former four-time Women’s Champ to cry on SmackDown.

    Despite it being a bittersweet triumph for the two awesome in-ring performers, Mickie and The Red Carpet Diva demonstrated why they are each top-ranked Divas.

    Melina, for one, showed how versatile she can be when she pulled off an incredibly acrobatic sunset flip on Michelle to conclude the match. Mickie, meanwhile, can certainly expect a crack at the Women’s Title at some point soon after her impressive performance, which included eliminating Beth and Alicia.

    The two dazzling Divas, nevertheless, will likely employ action against their bullies in the upcoming weeks to get some extra desired revenge.

    * Match Elimination Breakdown:

    Kelly Kelly def. Layla by pinfall
    Michelle McCool def. Gail Kim by pinfall
    Eve def. Jillian by pinfall
    Beth Phoneix def. Eve by pinfall
    Beth Phoenix def. Kelly Kelly by pinfall
    Mickie James def. Beth Phoenix by pinfall
    Mickie James def. Alicia by pinfall
    Melina def. Michelle McCool by pinfall

    * JOHN CENA def, DX TO RETAIN THE WWE CHAMPIONSHIP:

    WWE Champion John Cena delivered a memorable performance against Randy Orton at WWE Bragging Rights to capture his seventh World Title. The Champ, however, will have no time to rest or celebrate as he will have to defend his gold against a pair of allies, DX’s Shawn Michaels and Triple H, in a Triple Threat Match at Survivor Series.

    Unlike most Triple Threat Matches which generally feature three existing foes, this extraordinary contest carries a much different outlook.

    Cena, for one, will be forced to resist punishment from two former World Champions and future WWE Hall of Famers. The Game and HBK are two of WWE’s most illustrious all-time ring warriors, and unquestionably, each expect to reclaim the title.

    The prominent question, though, will relate to Triple H and Michaels’ motives. Will the effervescent duo work as a team to ravage The Champ? Or, in contrast, will each DX Superstar focus on their individual quests to repossess the WWE Championship?

    The WWE Universe has witnessed many allies throughout WWE’s storied history get into scuffles when the title is on the line. Most recently, for example, even longtime friends Batista and Rey Mysterio divided at WWE Bragging Rights during their Fatal Four Way Match when The Animal blamed his former buddy for his own defeat.

    While DX asks Cena if he will be ready for Survivor Series, it’s also imperative for The Cerebral Assassin and The Showstopper to ask themselves if they will be ready. It will be uncustomary for the two partners to be opponents – something they haven’t done since DX’s fallout earlier this decade.

    Cena, meanwhile, has stepped up to every challenge throughout his career, including proving he was the ultimate champion in his unforgettable rivalry with The Viper. The esteemed gladiator also has plenty of experience battling Triple H and Michaels. In fact, the 12 Rounds star defeated The Game and HBK, respectively, at back-to-back WrestleManias in 2006 and 2007.

    Retaining the gold, however, may not be in The Champ’s control. The first man to pin one of their opponents will be the champion.

    All three combatants realize what they are up against, and it will be up to each of them at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. to show to the WWE Universe that they are Monday Night Raw’s most electrifying champion.

    HBK superkicking Triple H set the tone for this Triple Threat Match, which saw DX brutalizing each other, allowing WWE Champion John Cena to capitalize with an Attitude Adjustment and retain his gold.

    THE MIDNIGHT HOUR #21 (SMACKDOWN HIGHLIGHTS

    Friday, November 20, 2009, 11:44 PM EST [General]

    * Mickie James def. Layla:

     For the second week in a row, Women’s Champion Michelle McCool made Mickie James’ existence miserable on Friday nights. After Mickie soundly defeated Layla, she was quickly introduced to Michelle’s personalized video version of “Old McDonald,” designed to degrade the new SmackDown Diva with its starring character “Piggy James.” The insulting stunt left the former Women’s Champion crying in the ring. But who will be shedding tears of defeat when Team Michelle takes on Team Mickie at Survivor Series?

    * Drew McIntyre def. Finlay:

     Despite an aggressive attack of pure retribution by The Belfast Brawler for McIntyre’s shillelagh assault one week ago, The Scottish Superstar used a quick jab to the eye to set up his Double Arm Underhook DDT and walked away with the win. Could McIntyre’s ruthless tactics be enough to grab triumphant for Team Miz this Sunday?

     * CM Punk’s Straightedge Intervention:

     The Straightedge Superstar carried out a one-man Straightedge intervention on the WWE Universe, attempting to show them “how to survive” by disposing of cigarettes, prescription pills, and alcohol into a metal trash can. However, his efforts came to a sudden halt when R-Truth decided to carry out an intervention of his own. After knocking Punk to the ground, the rapping Superstar emptying the contents of the trash can on top of Punk before using it to bash The Second City Saint in his rib cage. Who will chose the correct path to survival when Team Orton faces Team Kofi at Survivor Series?

     * Intercontinental John Morrison def. Dolph Ziggler in 2-out-of-3 Falls Match for the Intercontinental Championship:

     Despite suffering a major rib injury, The Guru of Greatness heroically rallied back to overcome Dolph Ziggler 2 falls to 1. Despite another impressive effort from his confident challenger, “The A-Lister” closed the door on the hard fought battle for the gold with Starship Pain. Will The Friday Night Delight and the rest of Team Morrison survive on Sunday against Team Miz?

     * Tyson Kidd def. Rey Mysterio by Disqualification:

     While Batista emanated silent intimidation from the broadcast table, Mysterio went round and round with Tyson Kidd. But seconds after The Animal cost his former comrade-in-arms the match by disqualification, the masked Superstar found an opening to dish out another humiliating hit-and-run attack on the Superstar he once called a brother. A completely enraged Batista failed to catch Mysterio and was left with nothing but egg on his face for the second week in a row. Will Mysterio’s actions be his undoing at Survivor Series as the two former World Champions collide?

     * Batista def. Matt Hardy:

     An irate Batista roared onto SmackDown, focusing the full force of his relentless fury on Matt Hardy. After executing three consecutive spinbusters, The Animal hit a vicious Batista Bomb for the decisive victory. He later declared that Rey Mysterio, the source of his anger, would never again embarrass him the way he did last week, promising to decimate his former friend at the Survivor Series.

     * World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker & Kane vs. Unified Tag Team Champions Chris Jericho & Big Show ended in a No Contest:

     The Brothers of Destruction, two legendary forces of indescribable mayhem, remerged as one to take on Jericho and Big Show. However, the intense mega match between four of WWE’s elite Superstars was destined to descend into absolute bedlam from the beginning. When The World’s Largest Athlete stormed into the ring to break up The Deadman’s dreaded Hell’s Gate, he drew the wrath of The Big Red Machine, igniting an all out free-for-all that left the official no choice but to declare a no-contest. When the smoke finally cleared, the squared circle anarchy had taken its toll on all four combatants. And with both The Phenom and Kane down, Jericho seized the moment and delivered a surprise Codebreaker to his own partner. The first-ever Undisputed WWE Champion snatched up the World Title and held it high above his head, sending a definitive message that this Sunday’s pay-per-view will truly be every one for himself. Could this be a prophecy of things to come in the World Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat Match at Survivor Series?

     AND NOW THOUGHTS FROM THE MAN OF THE HOUR::

     – With Survivor Series just 48 hours away, all of SmackDown's Superstars were looking looking to be the last one standing amidst a feverish rampage of brotherly destruction, animalistic rage, championship frenzy and Straightedge intervention that rocked Friday night to its very core.

    WELL THAT'S ALL THE TIME I HAVE FOR YOU, GOOD NITE AND GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS SIGNED:THE MAN OF THE HOUR:

    THE MIDNIGHT HOUR (BLACK FRIDAY)

    Wednesday, November 18, 2009, 11:50 PM EST [General]

    Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away and, as we all know, that means Black Friday, the craziest shopping day of the year is almost upon us!

     It's the nickname given to the Friday after Thanksgiving and the unofficial start to the holiday shopping season. Though Black Friday is commonly referred to as the busiest retail shopping day of the year, it does not always have the biggest sales volume.

     However, it usually ranks among the top three days in customer traffic to stores, along with the Saturday before Christmas and December 26th.

     This year, Wal-Mart will keep its stores open 24 hours and take new crowd-control measures on Black Friday.

     Last year, at a Wal-Mart in Valley Stream, NY, not far from my hometown on Long Island, an employee died on Black Friday after he was trampled to death by a mob of shoppers.

    Hundreds of people lined up outside the store and as soon as the doors opened, a stampede ensued and ended with one dead and four injured. This year, in addition to being opened 24 hours, Wal-Mart plans to place its hottest sale items far apart from each other to prevent crowds from gathering and avoid another stampede in the frenzy of Black Friday shopping.

     Personally, I like to avoid the chaotic crowds and do my shopping around 8 or 9 AM on Black Friday, which is much less hectic than going in the afternoon or waiting for the store to open at the crack of dawn. But whenever you join the Black Friday masses, you can count on amazing deals all day long!
