    AWA on ESPN Classic Review

So a few weeks ago I decided to add the AWA on ESPN Classic to my DVR and I spent all weekend watching it which my wife loved so much she almost killed me. For me it was fun to watch the AWA at 27 remembering how bad it was when I was 7.

I was happy to find the Midnite Rockers vs Buddy Rose and Doug Sommers bloodbath and some great Curt Henning and Scott Halls matches on there as well from 1986. Altough not as good as the WWF and the NWA at the time the AWA had ALOT of talent, they just missuesed it.

I had one episode from 12/26/1988 which was a recap of the only AWA PPV "SuperClash 3". Since I had already seen this event I really had no intrest in watching it but it was nice to see some of the matches in good vq.

Now I also had 3 episodes from 1990...kill me please! Eric Bischoff and Lee Marhsall are calling the action and I want to simple hang myself. Theres no one worth watching at all. They had a guy calling himself "The Trooper" and had him handing his beatin foe a parking ticket!

Long story short it was fun to watch dispite the **** that was on there at some point. Bruiser Brody, Scott Hall, The Rockers, Curt Henning, and Stan Hansen made 1986 fun for me to watch. ESPN Classic will be airing more 1988 in the coming weeks so I can't wait for that.

If you watched the WWE's amazing DVD on the AWA you should enjoy watching some of this!

    Being a Wrestling Fan Today

I started watching wrestling back in 1984 when I was just 3 years old. Something about the way the sport was presented caught my intrest and has every since. Today at 27 I feel like that old guy in the park telling the local children stories about how things where better in my day.

I can sit at home and watch WWE 24/7 for hours and relive the classic moments that made me a fan, or I can pop in a DVD of some great classic wrestling and be taken back to a time when where Hulk Hogan was the biggest thing since sliced bread and Randy Savage was the biggest heel this side of Ric Flair. I miss those days sometimes.

I watch wrestling today and wonder what happened? When did wrestling become a drama with some action insteed of a action with some drama? Why do I care about guys fighting over shampoo (WrestleMania 18)? I guess it would have to be during the Monday Night Wars when this change happened, I just didn't notice.

Now this isn't to say I don't like wrestling today, I do. I love CM Punk, HBK, Chirs Jericho, HHH, The Undertaker, Kane, and countless others, I just wish when I watched I wouldn't end up thinking "What does this have to do with wrestling?"
