I am sick & tired of what Vince McMahon is trying to pass off as ECW, he beleives that he made the fans cheer for ECW. I beleive otherwise. This is just a short post but lets just say, the proof is in the numbers.
In 2005, the WWE had the very first ECW One Night Stand, it was by far one of the best PPV's of the year, it was what ECW stood for, the only thing that could have made it more authentic was not having the Anti-ECW crusaders there. It had the Dudleys Vs The Sandma & Tommy Dreamer, it had Eddie Guerrero (RIP) Vs Chris Benoit (RIP), it had Rhyno Vs Sabu, it had Masato Tanaka Vs Mike Awesome (RIP) and much more.
This PPV scored a 0.81 buyrate. Meaning that 0.81 percent of people who had the opportunity to order the PPV did.
In 2006, along with the "rebirth" of ECW, was another One Night Stand, this time featuring Tazz Vs Jerry Lawler, RVD Vs John Cena, Kurt Angle Vs Randy Orton (Neither of them an ECW original), Sabu Vs Rey Mysterio, Edge Mick Foley & Lita Vs Terry Funk Tommy Dreamer & Beulah McGuillicutty and more. This PPV was nowhere near the standards of the first ONS both in terms of what ECW stood for, and the overall feel & presentaion.
This PPV scored a 0.76 buyrate. A slight slump, mostly because, in my opinion, most people expected something the same standard as the previous year.
In 2007 we had One Night Stand, with the WWE making every PPV co-branded. The WWE tried to make this PPV similar to ECW by the fact that every match pretty much had no rules and had some kind of gimmick. This PPV featured Cena Vs Khali In a falls count anywhere match, Edge Vs Batista in a cage match, Randy Orton Vs RVD in a stretcher match (In RVD's last PPV appearance) , Bobby Lashley Vs Mr McMahon in a street fight, Melina Vs Candice in a pudding match (???) and more. This PPV was a decent enough to watch but the WWE figured the gimmick matches is what made ECW popular, why it contributed, ECW was much more than that.
This PPV scored a 0.47, a huge drop from the previous two, as now the people knew that ECW was dead.
Now with ECW on Sci-Fi we had a strong debt showing, with a 2.8 rating, a very strong rating rivaling that of Smackdown. The show was a mess, had very little wrestling, had Kelly Kelly debut who did not know how to dance at that stage, a squash match where Kurt Angle squashed ECW Original Justin Credible & the main focus was on Edge, John Cena to a lesser extent RVD. This was the high point for ECW on Sci-Fi, from then on the ratings kept slipping to what is now the average of 1.0 - 1.3, even with Smackdown & RAW stars appearing the ratings barely go up, this is because noone cares about what ECW has become. ECW is dead, and this is just some of the proof.
