Pro Wrestling Guerrilla Presents It's It (What Is It?) on Sunday, June 8, 2008!
By Silverback, PWG Staff Writer
San Simeon, CA - After Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's (http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com) Dynamite Duumvirate Tag Team Title Tournament, Commissioner of Wrestling Dino Winwood was feeling a little bit off. Slurred speech, swerving while walking or
driving, loss of appetite, dehydration, it was clear by the end of the
day last Monday that something was wrong. Which is why Dino waited
until Tuesday to get things checked out. Fortunate that he acted when
he did, Dino was diagnosed with suffering from acute Heat Exhaustion,
and had he waited just five more minutes before being submerged in ice
to rapidly cool his core temperature, he would have lost total
functionality of his brain. It was the first case of it's kind, where
the symptoms persisted over a series of days without catastrophic side
effects, and so serious that there will be an article about the newly
named "Dino Winwood Syndrome" in the August/September issue of the New England Journal of Medicine and Carpentry (the premiere bimonthly publication that competes simultaneously with both the New England Journal of Medicine and This Old House).
Because
of the commissioner's near-death experience, Dino has decreed that no
more Pro Wrestling Guerrilla events will be held during a heatwave.
Along with that, all venues will be required to provide adequate
ventilation and refreshment for the Commissioner and his staff. While
Dino has big plans for the way things will be run, due to the
bureaucratic nature of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, these changes will not
be implemented until 2011 at the earliest. As a stopgap measure, Dino
has scheduled It's It (What Is It?),
taking place on June 8, 2008 at 5:00PM, to be held at American Legion
Post #308 in Reseda, CA, which is rumored to have an Air Conditioning
unit on the premises, though the validity of that statement has not
been verified. It's It (What Is It?) is scheduled to feature:
Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team Title Match
Jack Evans & Roderick Strong vs. Chris Hero & Necro Butcher (with Candice LeRae)
-- While Dino Winwood would have you believe he was the only one who suffered during the DDT4 weekend, newly crowned PWG World Tag Team Champions Jack Evans and Roderick Strong had to contend with not only the heat, but also with three other teams
vying for the right to call themselves undisputed champions. After
making it all the way to the final round, only one team stood in the
path of Evans and Strong, and that was then-champions El Generico and "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen.
After a hard-fought battle that pushed both teams very nearly to their
breaking point, Evans and Strong were able to isolate Steen, score the
pinfall, and become twentieth Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team
Champions. This is Roderick's Strong's third reign as champion, and
Jack Evans' first.
With new champions crowned, the next logical step is to find challengers for the title. However, at DDT4,
all of the logical contenders received an opportunity to, at the very
least, earn a title shot, so that leaves Dino Winwood with a tough
choice. Does he make an illogical decision, or just an unlikely one?
Well, since both Necro Butcher and Chris Hero have been chomping at the bit for a shot at Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Champion Human Tornado,
and Tornado refuses to vacate the title or release physical custody of
the belt, Dino Winwood had an epiphany. "Why not tell the two guys that
want title shots that they ARE getting a title shot, but just don't
tell them which title they're getting a shot at." Dino said to himself.
Luckily for Dino Winwood, on top of being allies, Chris Hero and Necro
Butcher know a huge opportunity when they see one, which is why on June
8 at It's It (What Is It?), Hero and Necro intend on becoming the twenty first Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team Champions!
Singles Match
Austin Aries vs. El Generico
-- After losing the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team Titles at DDT4,
El Generico had become despondent, spiraling downward into a world of
tortas and horchata. Losing the titles for a near-record fourth time,
Generico was certain that his career could never get back on track, so
why not attempt to drown himself in a punch bowl filled with thick,
yogurt-y, flavorful refreshment? Fortunately for El Generico and the
wrestling world, Commissioner of Food & Beverage Excalibur was on one of his company funded culinary research trips to Mexico when
he stumbled upon the generic luchadore covered from toe to tip with
Horchata, sputtering, and mumbling incoherently. Despite his ill will
toward El Generico's tag team partner Kevin Steen, over the course of
the last three days in a very touching scene reminiscent of The Princess Bride where Fezzik nurses Inigo Montoya back to health, Excalibur nursed El Generico back to health. And just
as Generico was about to return to his life a rehabilitated man, the
Commissioner of Food & Beverage dropped a bombshell. This treatment
was not free. Excalibur is not running a bed and breakfast out of his
office. Someone has to pay for this water, gruel and comprehensive
medical care, and it sure isn't coming out of the Food & Beverage
budget. However, there was a plan. A payment plan.
To work off
his debt, El Generico would continue to wrestle for Pro Wrestling
Guerrilla, but every time he wins a match and "visits the pay windah,"
his purse will be given to the office of Food & Beverage. In order
to expedite payment of Generico's debt, Excalibur has lined up a series
of matches that could very quickly put El Generico back into title
contention, and the first match in that series will take place on June
8 against Austin Aries. Aries had two impressive performances at DDT4, and despite losing to Davey Richardson
Night 2, Austin Aries finds himself on the periphery of the title hunt.
A victory here over former World Champion Generico could do wonders for
Aries' ranking once the title situation is resolved, but a victory for
Generico could not only help pay off his debt, but also return the
generic luchadore to the top of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla.
Singles Match
"New Guy" Brandon Bonham vs. Davey Richards
-- "Sorry brah, surf's up! Maybe next time!" was the message left on Dino Winwood's voicemail the day of DDT4 from Brandon Bonham, who, next to Owen Steen,
holds the best win-loss record in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla today. The
thought of fame and glory gained in gladiatorial combat proved to be no
match for the sea's siren song that day, and just like legendary Bohdi,
Brandon Bonham paddled out, and no one thought to ever see him again.
Which made his return to land among light chop 45 minutes later all the
more surprising. As it turns out, surfing does not pay Brandon Bonham's
bills, but wrestling does. Since Bonham has six other days a week to
dedicate to surfing, the least he could do is spend one day earning
enough to pay rent on his seaside shack and keep the surf wax flowing.
Disgusted at Bonham's laissez faire approach to professional wrestling,
Davey Richards has taken it upon himself to teaching PWG's hottest
prospect a very hard lesson. Men like Davey Richards dedicate their
life to the sport of professional wrestling, and that lives room for
little else, especially something as trivial as surfing. In order to
reach the apex of the professional wrestling world, one must dedicate
himself to the sport 100%. Will Richards find an apt pupil in young
Bonham, or will the "New Guy" teach Davey to "relax, brah?"
Tag Team Match
The Dynasty (Scott Lost & Joey Ryan) vs. Los Luchas (Phoenix Star & Zokre)
-- Going in to DDT4 as one of the favorites, Scott Lost and Joey Ryan were as surprised as everyone else to be eliminated by the debuting team of El Blazer & KAGETORA.
They were even more surprised when they realized that Los Luchas, a
team many believed to be underdogs, had made it to the second round.
Was it the lack of Jade Chung's
managerial guidance that lead to the loss, or was The Dynasty just
simply outwrestled by their Japanese competitors? Unwilling to take
this loss lying down, Scott Lost and Joey Ryan are setting their sights
once again on the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team titles, but so
are Los Luchas. Phoenix Star and Zokre were defeated in the second round by eventual tournament winners Jack
Evans and Roderick Strong, and they would like nothing more to get a
rematch, especially with the titles on the line. With Jade Chung still
recovering from her injury at the hands of Super Dragon,
The Dynasty will once again have to fight this one on their own. Will
their cunning and guile make up for the advantage of speed and agility
that Los Luchas have, or will their missing manager prove to be the key
to The Dynasty's success?
Singles Match
Hook Bomberry vs. Scorpio Sky
-- On the second night of DDT4, against doctor's orders, Scorpio Sky's tag team partner Ronin made the gutsy (and in hindsight, ill-advised) decision to attempt to compete. But prior to the beginning of the match, Hook Bomberry flung a chair at Ronin's already injured knee, taking him out of the
match and putting the big man from Monrovia on the shelf for an
indefinite length of time. Looking to avenge his fallen partner,
Scorpio Sky will take on Hook Bomberry in singles competition, an arena
where Sky has proven himself to be highly capable. With TJ Perkins out of the state on June 8, Hook Bomberry will have to wrestle for the
first time since returning to PWG without backup. Will Hook be forced
to reach into his bag of tricks in order to gain a victory, or will the
king of sting prove his supremacy in the ring?
Plus more matches, Commissioner of Wrestling Dino Winwood and Commissioner of Food & Beverage Excalibur!
Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's It's It (What Is It?) takes place Sunday, June 8, 2008 at 5:00PM at American Legion Post #308

Press Release for PWG It's It (What Is It?) on 6/8
PWG DDT4 Results - May 17-18, 2008
Around 350-375 in attendance for Night One. It wasn't BoLA hot, but it was certainly getting there. Ring Announcer Jon Ian and Commissioner of Food and Beverage Excalibur made mention of the changes to the card since it was first announced and had faith that the weekend would still be a good one. I should make mention that just about everyone on Night One wasn't quite at top level, and the fans were rather forgiving to botches, miscues and slips. It was just so friggin' hot to care about the mistakes and they just let all the performers off on a pass.
1. Hook Bomberry vs. Nemesis
So we kick off with a standard opening match. I say standard because we're looking at two guys who usually wrestle within the opening portion of the card. And the match itself was standard to say the least given all the conditions and talent involved. Back and forth match that finally came to an end when Hook nailed a Michinoku Driver for the win. Decent start. Nothing really special to write home about. Everyone was just feeling the heat by this point.
Winner: Hook Bomberry
2. DDT4 Tag Team Tournament - First Round
2.0 (Jagged and Shane Matthews) vs. Los Luchas (Phoenix Star and Zokre)
Originally, the Briscoes were going to be in the tournament again. Then Mark got injured, so PWG had to find a new team to fill their spot. Enter the debut of 2.0. They played heels in the match, but they were just so damn funny that they immediately won the affection of the fans. Stuff such as Shane getting chants going like "DE-FENCE!" and Jagged complaining about how much his left nipple was in pain, which it certainly was considering all the scars surrounding it. 2.0 managed to isolate Zokre until he made the hot tag to Phoenix. Back and forth action that ended with Los Luchas hitting their Torture Rack Slam onto Double Knee Smash finish for the win. The fans showed their love for 2.0 by chanting "Please come back!" They would hang out at the merchandise table during intermission.
Winners: Los Luchas
3. Candice LaRae vs. TJ Perkins
TJ continued his extreme emo transformation, and was bummed about the card shuffle because of the injuries. He demanded a prima donna to wrestle him and out came Candice much to his dislike. A pretty well crafted match that told a story that got the fans well involved. Candice certainly held her own and they did a good job with how they were booking her against the boys by not having her super strong yet not being overly weak. Back and forth until TJ took her out with the Frog Splash. Better singles match than the first and the fans were into it. Standing ovation for Candice as she managed to walk out unassisted.
Winner: TJ Perkins
4. DDT4 Tag Team Tournament - First Round
Jack Evans and Roderick Strong vs. Ronin and Scorpio Sky
Jack and Roderick were supposed to team together in last year's DDT4 tournament. Only a few weeks before the show, Dragon Gate announced that Jack had to stay in Japan even though some of their guys were going to be in Southern California. Roderick managed to team with PAC and they ended up winning the whole thing. Ronin and Scorpio were an unlikely pairing at the beginning of the year, but have grown into a pretty good duo since. They work pretty well together. The match went back in forth, Ronin and Sky isolated Jack before the hot tag to Roderick. At this time, this was the first really good match of the evening. Jack and Roddy got the win after hitting Ode to the Bulldogs. Pretty good match for both teams.
Winners: Jack Evans and Roderick Strong
==Intermission==
Upon our return, Excalibur called out the PWG Champion Human Tornado to address the fans. Tornado was on cutches and everyone gave him rousing applauds. He began speaking about the injury and seemed like he was speaking for reals. Then he grinned and said he was keeping the belt, much to Excalibur's confusion and horror. The evil pimp slipped out of the ring and left. Immediately after, Excalibur raced after him only to reappear seconds later in an even greater state of confusion, saying, "He's already gone!" Interesting booking approach. Could lead to something good, especially if they are waiting for Chris Hero to return from his Australia tour.
5. DDT4 Tag Team Tournament - First Round
The Dynasty (Joey Ryan and Scott Lost) vs. El Blazer and KAGETORA
Just days before, it was announced that Kota Ibushi would not be coming as he had broken his ankle the weekend before. This certainly caused a lot of heartache as many wanted to see him. I would have loved to have seen the Ibushi/KAGETORA double teams live. Fortunately, PWG managed to talke El Blazer into coming. You could tell he was feeling the California heat as he was lying down on the apron at the beginning of match and did slightly slip a little here and there. But when it was time to go, he dazzled the fans with the crazy aerials he was known for in Japan. The Dynasty managed to isloate Blazer until he made the hot tag to KAGETORA. And what a hot tag as KAGETORA busted out the running combos on Lost that just left the fans in utter awe. Back and forth action took place when Blazer started setting up for the finisher by nailing the always spetacular Blazing Arrow. Seeing that live was just super sweet. Blazer then went for the Dragonrana and got the pin. Great match that could arguably be consider the best of Night One. The fans loved Blazer and KAGETORA, giving them a standing ovation and chanting their names.
Winners: El Blazer and KAGETORA
6. Austin Aries vs. Jay Briscoe
What was originally booked for Night Two was now taking place on Night One. Oddly enough, both men were defending the ROH Tag Team Titles over the previous weekend. This was simply a technical match. That's right, a Briscoe wrestling a technical match. Not very often you would see that, especially in the States. Both men were gunning for specific weaknesses. Aries targeted Jay's head, Jay was targeting Austin's back. Very good back and forth wrestling that continued the momentum the last match had and got the fans hooked to the big finish. In the end, Aries managed to nail a Brainbuster on Jay, kept himself in a front face lock to deliver sickening knees to Jay's head, and then flipped over for the Horns of Aries submission victory. Standing ovation as the two men shook hands. Great match.
Winner: Austin Aries
7. DDT4 Tag Team Tournament - First Round
PWG World Tag Team Champinship
El Generico and Kevin Steen © vs. Davey Richards and Super Dragon
Before introductions could be made, Dragon stole Generico's cape and started playing around with it. It was enough to cause Steen to go after his former enemy, Generico and Davey ended up coming to blows, they decided to ring the bell, and all hell broke loose in the seats. The fans were eating it all up as all four drove each other hard into the chairs. They managed to get the action back into the ring where Davey and Dragon isolated Generico. Everything was really good... only Dragon seemed to be moving in and out a little quick. Even when Davey had set Generico up for the dreaded top rope double-stomp, Dragon instead went for an elbow smash. Curious. Believe it or not, there was no Curb Stomp or Psycho Driver tonight. Which should tell you something about Dragon's condition. Hot tag to Steen and everyone started running hard and fast. Only it was during this that Dragon truly was out on his feet. It was probably a combination of him getting concussed during all this and his just being way too exhausted to move. Steen and Generico had great difficulty trying to set him up for their finishers, so Davey got himself in to save whatever was left to be saved of the finish. This resulted in him being met with the Package Piledriver into Brainbuster combo for the champions to retain. A great match, wonderfully crafted, that suffered from Dragon's inability to continue at the end. Unless he loses some serious weight and conditions himself properly, Super Dragon may be done.
Winners: STILL Champions, El Generico and Kevin Steen
Excalibur had some words for the champions at the end of the match, Steen specifically. He accused him of missing dates while Steen explained his priorities changed with the birth of his son. Excalibur then began to insult Steen's kid, calling him ugly, which was obviously not a good idea. Steen laid out the Commissioner of Food and Beverage with three straight Package Piledrivers. That's right, three straight. Steen then went out, brought his son to the ring, and laid the adorable little baby on top of the completely unconscious Excalibur, Generico made the count, and Jon made the greatest announcement ever. "Here is your winner... OWEN STEEN!" Brilliant. Simply brilliant. A fan yelled for someone to steal Excalibur's shoes and Generico did so, stuff both of them down the front of his pants for some great fun.
Slow start from the first half of the card with the second half being better. Still, the show was certainly not as good as it was last year. Everyone was definitely feeling the heat and some of the injuries that happened leading into the event did put a little damper on the atmosphere, but everyone did what they could under the cir****tances and put together a fun show as a result. The fans enjoyed it, especially with such a wonderful ending.
---
Around 400 this time for Night Two. Excalibur announced that Dragon was out, the reason being that insurance was becoming costly that he was now banned from competing. He made mention that Ronin also had a bad knee. He teased wanting a rematch with Owen Steen when Kevin was spotted running by to make a quick errand.
1. DDT4 Tag Team Tournament - Semi-Final Round
Jack Evans and Roderick Strong vs. Los Luchas (Phoenix Star and Zokre)
We go straight to a tournament match. While Jack and Roddy isolated Zokre from Phoenix Star, some of the lights began powering out. It would be during the next tournament match that they decided to turn the house lights on as the PWG light stands were experiencing technical difficulties. Any way, Zokre made the tag to Phoenix and we go back and forth with some real nice sequences before Jack and Roddy took them out with the Ode to the Bulldogs for the win. Good way to kick off the show and a step up from the previous night's overall quality.
Winners: Jack Evans and Roderick Strong
2. Austin Aries vs. Davey Richards
With Dragon out, the card was shuffled a bit and Davey was placed in a singles match against Aries. Really good, sound technical battle that gave both the chance to show their stuff. Nice little back and forth sequence between the two, which included teased dives and some breathtaking counters. The counters played a big role in the finishing sequence as both men looked like set the other up for their respective finishers and it hooked the fans. Davey managed to escape the Horns of Aries and set him up for the Texas Cloverleaf for the submission victory. After a handshake from the two, Davey got on the mic to cut a promo. He said that while it felt good to be back home, it was going to be short lived as he would be spending three months in Japan. He promised to return after the three months and would be gunning for the PWG Championship. He was given an ovation as he left. If my math is correct, he'll be back in time for BoLA.
Winner: Davey Richards
3. DDT4 Tag Team Tournament - Semi-Final Round
PWG World Tag Team Championship
El Generico and Kevin Steen © vs. El Blazer and KAGETORA
By this point, this was the best match of the weekend so far. Blazer was now about to accomidate just how hot it was in the building and work around it. Back and forth action in the beginning until the champs isolated Blazer. Blazer took some real nasty bumps from Steen during all this. Sick stuff, actually. Blazer made the hot to KAGETORA and off the races we went. The back and forth action this time around was really hot as the fans were just loving it. The finish came when Generico launched Blazer into the air, Steen jumped off the top rope and nailed a mid-air lariat for the pin. Exciting match that got a standing ovation. Deafening "Please come back!" chant was given to Blazker and KAGETORA. We would definitely love to see them again.
Winners: STILL Champions, El Generico and Kevin Steen
PWG Commissioner Dino Winwood came out and called Human Tornado to the ring in an effort for a peaceful surrendering of the PWG Championship. Tornado said he would only do it if Candice came out. She did, he teased a handshake and attempted to attack her with the belt. Dino jumped Tornado until he was attacked by Jay Briscoe. This prompted Necro Butcher to come out and lead to an apparent match between Necro and Jay.
4. Jay Briscoe vs. Necro Butcher
Jay and Necro started brawling in the chairs. Literally. Not much fan reaction happened, actually. Most were just really hot and did not want to put the effort into running around to catch a glimpse of the chaos unfolding. They teased trying to destroy the merchandise table only for Tornado to attack Necro with one of his crutches. After some more chaos, Jay and Tornado were throwing chairs into the ring and the fight continued there. Some back and forth chair-involving action with Tornado trying to get involved and then finding himself in a bad spot when Necro grabbed his crutches and started attacking his leg. Necro finished off Jay with the Tiger Bomb onto a pile of chairs for the victory. A couple more shots at Tornado's leg, causing the champ to be carried off and further damaging his leg. Excalibur followed in an attempt to reclaim the belt after I kept yelling for someone to get the belt. Don't know if he succeeded.
Winner: Necro Butcher
==Intermission==
5. Eight-Person Intergender Tag Team Match
2.0 (Jagged and Shane Matthews), Candice LaRae and Scorpio Sky vs. The Dynasty (Joey Ryan and Scott Lost), Hook Bomberry and TJ Perkins
Ronin was supposed to be in the match, and they teased that his knee was well enough for him to compete. Until he got a chair shot to the knee during introductions. He was carried out and Candice LaRae came out to fill his spot. They're really pushing this girl, fortunately she's a good talent and able to hold her own with the boys. The pairings at the start was Shane and Hook, Jagged and TJ, Joey and Candice, and Scorpio with Lost that had a spark of their 2005 rivalry being renewed. The heels isolated Scorpio for a while until he made the hot tag to 2.0. You got to love Shane for once again leading the fans into chanting "DE-FENCE!" Not to mention Jagged had bandages over his injured nipple. The expected craziness of everyone hitting their signatures took place with some impressive spots here and there. Among them was what Joey called the boobplex, in which he hit a German Suplex on Candice while clutching her boobs. That awesome rapist. The finish saw Joey gore the hell out of Candice and just killed her with a sick powerbomb for the win. Ovation for Candice and a "Please come back!" chant for 2.0. Pretty damn great eight-person tag.
Winners: The Dynasty, Hook Bomberry and TJ Perkins
6. DDT4 Tag Team Tournament - Final Round
PWG World Tag Team Championship
El Generico and Kevin Steen © vs. Jack Evans and Roderick Strong
Barely a minute into the match, they started going for the high spots and impact moves. Among them was this sick visual of Roderick holding Jack up in a gorilla press and tossing him onto Steen on the floor. With no pads. Scary. After was seemed like a good two-four minutes of all four guys hitting this major spots, the champs isolated Jack and work him over. Everyone is totally into it at this point. Hot tag to Roderick and they start going crazy. So many kicks, slams and aerial assaults that when all four managed to find time to just lie down and take a breather the fans are on their feet chanting "P-W-G!" for the first time all weekend. It was heart-stopping live. The finish came when Roderick prevented Generico from attempting to hit Jack with the Top Rope BRAINBUSTAAAH, slamming Steen, and then setting everything up for Jack to hit the Ode to the Bulldogs. Only instead of a moonsault, Jack did a Phoenix Splash. Amazing! We got a three count and new champions! Awesome twelve-fifteen minute main event. Best of the entire weekend hands down. Steen refused to hand over the belts at first, disliking the fact that he had to defend three times in two nights, but managed to finally hand them over and shake hands with the new champions.
Winners: NEW Champions, Jack Evans and Roderick Strong
A much better showing than Night One. Second nights are generally better, but this one was just so blantantly obvious that you really couldn't compare the two. This weekend certainly showed that Generico and Steen are probably the best tag team in the States this year. They're really good and put on great matches as a result. The fans love 2.0 and want them back, as they also want El Blazer and KAGETORA to return very soon. Interesting booking they've put together for both Tornado stealing the PWG Championship and Candice holding her own against the boys. The PWG Tag Titles is probably the biggest victory for Jack in the States and I have to say I'm so happy to have seen it. Given his growth over the years, it's not hard to imagine him with gold at this point of his career. Fantastic finish to a great night of wrestling. The entire weekend as a whole was pretty darn good, though not on the same level as last year. No information on next month's show.
Ibushi out, El Blazer In
Thursday, May 15 Update
By Silverback, PWG Staff Writer
As
if Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and our affiliated wrestlers have not
endured enough bad luck recently, we were informed earlier today that
while walking into the Fox Hills Mall to redeem her Orange Julius gift
certificate she received for Mother's Day, former PWG employee Judy Sorensen was struck and killed by a piece of orbital debris returning to earth.
The news hit the offices of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla pretty hard, though
not as hard as say, an instrument panel door sheered off by a space
station docking with a shuttle returning to earth at high velocity, but
hard enough that Commissioner Dino Winwood was about to send everyone home for the day. That is, until the
Commissioner reached for his cell phone to read a text message, then
began shouting incoherently about the Japanese, and their lack of ankle
support. At first, everyone thought Dino had gone mad with grief over
the death of Judy, formerly from accounting, however, the news was much
more dire: While wrestling in his home country of Japan, scheduled Dynamite Duumvirate Tag Team Title Tournament participant Kota Ibushi broke his ankle, and will be unable to compete in the tournament.
Everyone
at Pro Wrestling Guerrilla wish Kota Ibushi a full and quick recovery,
and look forward to the day when he is able to make his PWG debut.
With the injuries of Mark Briscoe, Kota Ibushi, and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Champion Human Tornado, it would appear to the outside observer that this year's DDT4 is cursed. Perhaps even Pro Wrestling Guerrilla as a whole is cursed. After all, Commissioner of Food & Beverage Excalibur did "borrow" a bag of beignets from someone who was colloquially
referred to as a voodoo priest while in New Orleans for Carnival.
Taking
the curse-related talk very seriously, Excalibur dove into his rolodex
to find a suitable replacement for Kota Ibushi. Starting at the
beginning of the alphabet, Excalibur attempted to contact young
Japanese high-flyer AHII, who
was thought to be the perfect replacement for Ibushi. However, AHII's
number had been disconnected, so the Commissioner of Food &
Beverage tried to reach another young Japanese high-flyer, this one
with the unlikely name of Catfish Man.
Unfortunately, Catfish Man's number now dials a wholesale video game
store in Akihabara, which lead to some very interesting conversation.
Next, on the list was HUSTLE Kamen Ranger Red,
whose roommate said that Ranger Red had moved out quite some time ago,
and was to be notified that he had money coming back from the apartment
deposit. Making note of it, Excalibur forged ahead, calling several
other wrong numbers in hopes of reaching Rabbit Boy, Shanao, UWAI #32, and finally, The★ZEST.
After coming up with nothing, especially after The★ZEST sounded so
promising, Excalibur spun the rolodex out of sheer frustration and
stormed away from his desk.
Upon returning, Excalibur noticed that the rolodex had stopped spinning on the letter Y, and landed on the name Yo****une.
Desperate for any young Japanese high-flyer at this point, Excalibur,
hopes buoyed, phoned Yo****une in an attempt to save the World Tag
Team Title tournament. As it turned out, Yo****une was not home,
though his mother, after quite a bit of laughing, mentioned that
Excalibur might want to contact her son's "friend," El Blazer,
about taking Ibushi's spot in the tournament. Quickly flipping to the
E-section and coming up with nothing, Excalibur flipped to Blazer, El.
This is when things really began to turn around.
See, El Blazer
is known as the premiere high-flyer in professional wrestling today,
and it would be a coup for any American wrestling promotion to have him
compete at one of their events. And to have El Blazer make his North
American debut in a tournament such as DDT4 would be a major coup. In fact, Excalibur had contacted El Blazer
earlier this year about competing in DDT4, but Blazer had informed the
Commissioner of Food & Beverage that he was unavailable. With
trembling fingers, Excalibur hesitantly dialed the fourteen digit
telephone number, and reached El Blazer. Speaking in a rush, Excalibur
detailed the list of people he attempted to contact, and how Mrs. Yo****une was kind enough to suggest that El Blazer schedule may have opened up.
After about 10 seconds of silence, then 15 minutes of raucous laughter,
El Blazer mentioned that he owed Kota Ibushi a favor, and it would an
honor team with KAGETORA in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's Dynamite Duumvirate Tag Team Title Tournament.
So now, after a brief period of sheer terror, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla is proud to present DDT4,
taking place this Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 8:00PM and this Sunday, May
18, 2008 at 5:00PM at the Burbank Armory in Burbank California.

PWG Champion Human Tornado out with injury
During the past week, reigning PWG World Heavyweight Champion Human Tornado suffered a major injury that will no doubt keep him sidelined for as long as possibly a year. While wrestling in the mid-west, he dislocated his kneecap and suffered a torn ACL. Not only does this put his appearance at DDT4 II on May 17 and 18 in doubt, but could also result in him having to drop the belt. Tornado has also been in the middle of an outstanding feud with Chris Hero and Candice LaRae, with Hero going to be in Australia during the weekend. This puts the question of what to do with the title in question as well as what to do with the feud. Tornado was previous scheduled to defend the belt against Austin Aries on May 17 and then the next day battle Necro Butcher in a Street Fight. Updates to both matches and the whole situation as they develop.
Press Release for PWG DDT4 II on May 17 & 18, 2008
Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's DDT4 on May 17 & 18, 2008
By Silverback, PWG Staff Writer
El
Granada, CA - It has been said on occasion before, and it holds just as
true today as it did then: It wouldn't be a Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com) event without changes. Unfortunately, those changes directly effect the Dynamite Duumvirate Tag Team Title Tournament (DDT4),
taking place on May 17 & 18, 2008 at the Burbank Armory in Burbank,
California. The bad news: One of the teams that many fans were picking
as the favorites to win DDT4 are out. The good news: If you checked the Weekend Independent Wrestling Injury Report in the New York Times and got worried, there's not as many changes as you might expect. The
good-er news: The lineups for the weekend, with both non-tournament and
DDT4 matches, have been announced.
Davey Richards was involved in a car accident that kept him out of action over the
weekend, however, after speaking to Davey, he assured us that he would
take the next few weeks to recuperate, and will be able to compete at DDT4. Also on the injury front, due to a long standing injury that was exacerbated over the weekend, Mark Briscoe has been forced to undergo surgery that will keep him out of action for
a considerable period of time. Pro Wrestling Guerrilla wishes Mark
Briscoe a quick and complete recovery, and look forward to his return. Jay Briscoe declined the opportunity to chose a new partner for the tournament, so
Pro Wrestling Guerrilla management was forced to find a replacement for
the Briscoe Brothers. Luckily, they didn't have to look far, when
minutes after the news of Mark Briscoe's injury broke, an email arrived
in the inbox of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla Commissioner of Wrestling Dino Winwood.
While
the exact contents of this email remain undisclosed, a few details have
been made public. First, the sender alleged that they had video of
former PWG Commissioner "SoCal Val" Valerie Wyndham in compromising situations, with "close camera shots, clear audio," and
"perfect lighting." If that wasn't enough, attached to the email was a
photograph that seemed to confirm exactly what the sender had alleged.
Due to his close relationship with Ms. Wyndham, Dino Winwood wanted
desperately to help protect her reputation, and responded asking what
he could do to keep this information out of the public view. No further
details of the conversation have been made public, and Dino Winwood
threw his computer (and monitor, for some reason. I mean, it's not like
you can retrieve emails from the monitor. Now we have to buy a new
one.) out of his third floor window, which luckily was still broken and
covered with just a tarp. With the details of the tournament now
shrouded in mystery, once can only speculate if Dino Winwood was
corresponding with either Shane Matthews or Jagged, members of the team 2.0, who will be making their Pro Wrestling Guerrilla debut and replacing the Briscoe Brothers at DDT4!
While
it wasn't easy to find a team to replace the Briscoes, 2.0's record in
their native Canada, along with an endorsement by former Pro Wrestling
Guerrilla World Champion "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen, Commissioner Winwood is confident that 2.0 will prove to be a worthwhile addition to DDT4.
With all eight teams accounted for, the remaining contracts signed, and
the ink barely dry, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla is proud to announce to
scheduled lineup for DDT4, taking place on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18, 2008 at the Burbank Armory in Burbank, CA:
