So by now you may have heard that Punk remarked on the possibility of doing movies thusly in a recent interview with the Chicago Sun Times:
''Not any time soon, probably,'' Punk said. ''I don't think I'm a Hollywood property. If it's offered, I won't shoot it down. I'll consider it, but it's not something I'm actively pursuing. I'm a wrestling guy.''
I find that refreshing. Sounds to me like the guy knows he's not a born actor, which some WWE superstars could take a lesson from. And although I enjoy Punk's promos very much, let's face it, he has the benefit, in promos, of talking about what matters to him, which is far from the same thing as acting. Of course he does remark later that he's a fan of Famke Janssen and I'm sure he could find some serious motivation to learn there.
But I recall thinking along these very lines one evening after skimming through a taped version of RAW and fast forwarding through the repeated trailers for 12 Rounds, I found myself watching Pirates of the Caribbean. And for some reason, the proximity of seeing the two put me in mind that Punk would fit in nicely with a Pirates movie, although he'd probably want to avoid being seen drinking. So I thought, I could see him trashing a bunch of hapless pirates in a barroom brawl and at some point remarking that he was the only one in the room not drunk and laughing. Jack Sparrow might remark that he was clearly mad at that point, but still, you get the idea. And now, after the last movie, Jack is presumably in Hell, or something much like it, so perhaps he finds himself being lectured and/or having his butt kicked by a temperate (i.e. non-drinking) pirate who chastises him for becoming a weak, slovenly, drunken oaf entirely deserving of his fate. Anyway, these are the fruits of my imagination on too little sleep and too much mixed media.
But it brings up the notion that Punk might be well suited to a role that isn't a huge departure from his nature and so doesn't really require brilliant acting, isn't a starring role and thus doesn't place a huge demand for time away from the ring (he's a wrestling guy!), and above all is something he would enjoy. It's my casual observation that a happy Punk who's having fun, does a brilliant job at whatever it is he's doing. And really, who doesn't? So what are your ideas? What would you do with Punk if you were a writer, agent, etc.?
