When I first started watching professional wrestling back in 1988, the first pay-per-view build up that I saw was for the first-ever SummerSlam. I was so lucky to see the creation of matches from when Andre The Giant and Ted DiBiase attacked then-WWE Champion, Randy"Macho Man"Savage to the announcement that Jesse"The Body"Ventura would be the special guest referee. I remember watching the episode of The Brother Love Show just hours before SummerSlam and seeing The MegaBucks fill Ventura's pocket with hundred dollar bills and as I sat in front of my TV I thought, "How can he be impartial if he accepts money from the bad guys?"
Now twenty-one years later, SummerSlam comes to my hometown of Indianapolis and I couldn't be happier! As of this writing there is only one official match signed for the pay-per-view and that match comes from the ECW brand.
ECW World Champion, "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry (with WWE Hall of Famer, Tony Atlas) will defend the championship against the man who defeated three other athletes (Finlay, John Morrison and The Miz) in a Fatal Four-Way to become the number one contender - Matt Hardy. Can Hardy defeat Henry at the Biggest Party of the Summer to win his first-ever WORLD championship? I say YES!
SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!
In addition to the big match for the ECW Championship, there are two more matches that will be announced tomorrow night during Friday Night SmackDown! so if you do not want to know these matches until you've watched the show, DO NOT READ THE NEXT PARAGRAPH!
Okay now I'm hoping you are only reading this because you want to read the two spoilers. So one more time, IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE TWO ADDITIONAL MATCHES UNTIL THEY'VE ANNOUNCED THEM ON TELEVISION - DO NOT READ ANY MORE! Tomorrow night there will be a battle royal to determine the number one contender for Triple H's WWE Heavyweight Championship. Unfortunately the winner of the battle royal was The Great Khali. So therefore at SummerSlam it will be Triple H defending the WWE Heavyweight Championship against The Great Khali.
Hopefully, they will either remove Khali from this match or make it a No Disqualification match because the only matches I've enjoyed a little bit that involved Khali were the streetfights he had against John Cena and The Undertaker.
Another match that will be announced tomorrow night will be a Hell in a Cell match between Edge and The Undertaker. If you're wondering how The Undertaker will be returning to the WWE, it's quite simple. SmackDown! General Manager, Vickie Guerrero will reveal to Edge that due to all of her anger last week, she contacted The Undertaker and invited him back to World Wrestling Entertainment. He agreed as long as he got Edge inside of the "Devil's playground."
I'm really excited about the Hell in a Cell match because it is one of my favorite types of matches and next month at SummerSlam, I will see this match for the first time!
OKAY IF YOU SKIPPED THE ABOVE, YOU CAN NOW READ BECAUSE IT IS SAFE! THERE ARE NO MONSTERS IN THIS SECTION OF THIS BLOG!
Other matches that I think will happen will be the first-ever one-on-one match between Batista and John Cena. Another match that I think will happen will either be WWE World Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk versus JBL or WWE World Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk versus Kane. Personally I hope Kane gets the title shot and I hope he wins the title. Now I love Punk. I think he's a great role model but he has many more years left in his career. Who knows how many years Kane has left and he deserves to be a champion and he deserves his reign to last longer than a cup of coffee.
Make your plans to join WWE for the Biggest Party of the Summer today because we are simply just FOUR WEEKS AWAY! I'll see you at SummerSlam!
