    Tag Teams?...What Tag Teams?

Tuesday, June 10, 2008, 11:53 AM EST [General]

Is it me?, or does it feel like there isn't a dominant Tag Team like there used to be? I mean not to take anything away from the current ones now, but really, if I was asked "Who's the strongest tag team in the current roster?", I would have a look of confusion across my face lol.

I mean back then ('80's - '00's era), you had a PLETHORA of well known and very strong tag teams.  To name a few; The Rockers, The Hart Foundation, Legion of Doom (AKA The Road Warriors),  Power & Glory, The Head Shrinkers, The Bushwackers,  Demolition, The Smoking Gunns,  Tugboat and Earthquake (Natural disasters?), The Hardy's, The Brood (Edge and Christian), Rock and Sock con., DX's Roaddogg and Billy Gunn (or as I loved calling him, Billy @ss) and of course The APA, really, you were able to know who was who and who was really dominant.

Is the Tag Team Division in the endangered species list?..because as much as I love the single competitions no doubt, I really do miss the genuine tag matches. Don't get me wrong, pitting the top superstars in tagging with one another is cool too, but really, genuine tag matches are always fun to watch.  I miss the days when there was even a Fatal 4-way tag battles.

Again not to take away the talents from the current guys now. I actually have two favorite teams, Cryme Tyme, and the team of London and Kendrik (who in turn remind me alot of Marty Janetti (*sp?) and Shawn Michaels.).  But yeah, I really feel that there isn't a very dominating team anymore where alot of the 80's and 90's gen people could off the bat tell ya who was just WAY too tough to take on. Which also could be said that maybe the division is too small at that mainly because of the 3 brand separations.  Hopefully the division'll get bigger and may see more genuine tag team matches that alot will enjoy other than just the single competitions and the backstage shenanigans.  Ah well i'll just cross my fingers, take my vitamins and say my prayers =P.

I think the problem is that there are too many title belts. With the split a few years back, came the births of too many title belts. The one victim of that is the Tag Team titles. There are two sets of champions and honestly I can't stand Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly at all, and I can tolerate The Miz and John Morrison, but to me they are not what a great Tag Team is all about. Maybe if there was one championship, things would be worth much more. Kendrick and London (as much as they creep me out) were one of the strongest teams out there and made the title belts mean something. There are no more tag teams that could rival what we had early this decade.
