Well, yesterday (Sunday) was a mixed bag, mostly a down day for me. My Pats got blasted, and I mean blasted by the lowly Dolphins. Yep, Joey Porter backed up his big mouth for once. I thought Cassel would have a bad day and he is gonna take his lumps. He is not Brady, but dang, I didn't think the REST of the team were gonna act like rookies (Cassel is technically not, but for all intents and purposes, he is as a starting QB) TOO. The defense disappeared and Randy Moss, I fear was reverting back to the Oakland Moss. We have a bye next week so it is time to regroup.
My Steelers laid an egg. That is all there is to it. Special teams were nothing special. Defense was very good keeping McNabb and the Eagles offense to 15 points. If Westbrook and McNabb (who missed two series due to a chest injury) do not get hurt (Westbrook left the game and did not return due to an ankle strain), this would have been a blowout. The Steelers do NOT have an offense thanks to the idiotic Steelers listening to their "genius" (I am being sarcastic) of a QB, Big Ben. Ben wanted playmakers and instead of fixing the O Line (more later), the team got playmakers and never fixed the O Line in the damned draft. IDIOTS. That O line that never got fixed along with Ben's REFUSAL to THROW THE BALL AWAY allowed 8 sacks on Ben and when Leftwich came in for an injured (why am I not surprised) Ben who had his hand stepped on (x rays negative) the O line allowed one other sack. NINE SACKS? WTF? We have no offense. Period.
My Giants got by the Bengals. We sacked the overrated Carson Palmer 6 times, but Palmer was able to go up and down the field. Should not have been that close but we won in OT, Now the Bengals are 0-3. At least the G-Men are 3-0.
As I will be at Raw tomorrow, I will make my MNF Pick now: Chargers SHOULD prevail over the Jets.
It was a bit of a sad day for me as a Yankee fan as tonight was the last game that will be played in Yankee Stadium which opened in 1923. Next year, the team will move to a new Stadium. :( My parents attended quite a few games in the "old" Stadium. I am sorry it will be torn down. It should be a National Monuement. SO many memories: Roger Maris' breaking the Babes single season HR record (my parents were in the audience), Aaron Boone's HR off of Wakefield (take that Red Sox fans), that kid catching that HR ball off of Jeter against the Orioles (who the Yankees beat tonight!), Reggie Jackson (my favorite Yankee of all time) hitting the 3 WS HRs, Lou Gehrig's retirement speech......so many memories. Great events happened at the Stadium too like the Greatest Football Game Ever: between the NY Giants and the Baltimore Colts in 1958, and so many title fights (when Boxing was a credible sport). I will miss it.
Good news did come where right here in KY, the USA WON the Ryder Cup in Golf, so that was exciting. That was pretty neat. Mickelson I guess didn't choke. Sucks that Tiger was not there, but I don't think he was really into the Ryder Cup. He is not much of a team player.
You get a treat: a second blog!! Alot has happened between Week 2 and 3 of the NFL but here goes and I will try not to ramble. LOL Anyway, first off, Charger fans: LEAVE ED HOCCULI ALONE. The guy made a bad call, He owned it. Also, I hope this guy can get back on the horse so to speak (he will be in Baltimore tomorrow) and get back to work. What Chargers fans (you listening Rey and Edge? LOL I hope they didn't email the poor ref) and the idiots on BSPN (sorry I hate ESPN) forget is that the Chargers DEFENSE had TWO CHANCES to stop the Broncos from scoring after the blown call, but they DIDN'T. Hello!! *shakes head* Ed's mistake is responding to these idiots' emails and acknowledging that he was upset and "devastated" over the blown call. When he goes back to work this week, he will be second guessing himself and may not make a call he SHOULD make. Idiot fans.
Ok, enough of that: We Steeler fans had a crisis also. Big Ben ran his yap to the NBC crew in the Sunday Night game against the Browns and told them his shoulder was "separated" and Coach Tomlin said in his Tuesday Press conference after the game that Ben's shoulder , specifically the AC joint was "sprained" (technically it is separated, they are playing a game of semantics). Tomlin was sending a message to Big Mouth Ben to shut up. Ben has a tendency to play up his injuries and then the coach has to clarify what Ben has. First it was toe-gate, then the fever gate, now it is shoulder gate. Ben, shut up and play ball please.
As for Week 3: I think my Patriots should shut Joey Porter up and his Dolphins. Porter ran his big yap about Matt Cassel. My Giants should handle the Bengals. I am on the fence about my Steelers and the Eagles. I hope we get by the Eagles and McNabb. For MNF, I would think the Chargers would get by the Patron Saint of the NFL, Brett Farve and his Jets. If not, they are a sorry team. LOL Jags and Colts (who get Saturday and Clark back) are banged up but I think the Colts squeak by. I think Tennesse will beat the Texans. I think the Browns might beat the Ravens. I think the Vikings might upset the Panthers, but maybe not if Peterson doesn't play. That is all I can remember of the NFL Week Three.
First of all, congrats to Carlos Zambrano of the Cubs for his no hitter on Sunday. :) I am not a Cubs fan and I still say that that Bartman guy is not to blame for the Cubs not going to the World Series a few years ago, so Cubs fans, GET OVER IT!!
Ok, now it is time for NFL Talk: I got my trifecta today: What I mean is all three of my teams, Pats, Steelers, and Giants WON today. Giants ROLLED over the Rams 41-13. The Rams must be going for the 1st pick in the 2009 Draft. LOL They are so HAPLESS. JUst horrible. Giants just dominated. It was a comination of an RKO, a Pedigree, a Last Ride, finished off by a Spear!! The Patriots: No Brady..No problemo. Matt Cassell and the Pats did a very nice job defeating Lord Farve and the Jets. I thought they would beat the Jets. :) As for my Steelers.....sloppy game due to the weather and to the fact that Roethlisberger has a separated AC joint in his throwing shoulder suffered last week against the Texans. Thought it was worse than what Tomlin was letting on. Hope it doesn't plague him all season.
The rest: Well, Raiders' Coach Lane KIffin may or may not , depending on Al Davis' mood which changes as often as Vince McMahon changes his mind which is pretty often.......have saved his job, by his team's performance. Darren McFadden ran like a madman and scored, I believe one TD. May have been two. They beat the Chiefs (blech). We will see if Kiffin keeps his job for the time being. The Vikings, like the Browns are a wiseguy pick for the playoffs and the Super Bowl. well, that team is an excellent team. They can run the ball....look at C. Taylor and Adrian Peterson (Boomer Sooner)......they have an awesome defense, why do you think they got Jared Allen? They have a great O line. Their achilles heel is their QB. Tavaris Jackson is not the answer. They need a QB to just manage the game for them, and I hate using that term to the nth degree. It is a modern term for a QB who does enough to win and does not make mistakes...the QB is not a QB ala Brady or Manning (Peyton) that can win the game with his arm. I hate the term "game manager" because it implies the guy does not have the ability to win the game for you with his arm. Anyway, that is what the Vikings need. The Titans are in the same predicament(good O line, great defense, etc ). I had very high hopes for Vince Young, especially since I did NOT buy into the hype over Matt Leinart.......his being passed over for a washed up Kurt Warner who looks good SO FAR proves me correct.. However, Young's emotional stability and immaturity issues concern me deeply. I am not so sure he will make it as a QB in the NFL. I hope I am wrong and he overcomes his problems.
Colts are gonna be in big trouble if they do not get healthy quick. They got by the Vikings who choked big time but the Colts can't always get by like this every game. The 49ers got by the Seahawks. Man, that was something else. Huh? What about that Bears/Panthers. That was another come from behind game for the Panthers. That Stewart guy for the Panthers is awesome. I wish the Steelers drafted him instead of Mendenhall. Oh well. The Browns are ready for Prime Time......NOT. They looked a bit better tonight but Romeo Crennell....you are NOT your mentor....Bill Bellichick. NOt by a longshot. How about the Broncos/Chargers game. I am sorry, but the Chargers were SCREWED. That play where it should have been called a fumble and the Chargers get the ball back and kneel it out DID cost the Chargers the game DID cost San Diego the game. No doubt about it. I am sure Rey Mysterio and Edge (both Chargers fans) are TICKED. :( Redskins got by the Saints. Interesting.
Tomorrow on MNF it is the Cowboys and the Eagles: I think it will be a close game but I think the Boys take it.
Well, we are at the second week of the NFL Season. This season has gotten off to a strange start to say the least: Patriots' QB Brady goes down for the year. Vince Young, QB of the Tennessee Titans is on the verge of a nervous breakdown and may have been thinking of killing himself. Jeff Garcia and his coach Jim Gruden of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are at each other's throats. The vaunted Carson Palmer of the Bengals was schooled by a rookie, Joe Flacco of the Ravens. The overrated Browns were whupped by the Cowboys.
Let's see what we got in Week 2: My Giants face the hapless Rams. I am sure the Rams won't be too much of a problem for my Giants. Kianuka (LB) for the Giants is supposed to be able to play, so that is good for the defense. Hopefully, we can get our offense rolling and kick their butts. :) My Patriots with no Tom Brady (wahhhhhh) and with Matt Cassell leading the charge faces Old Man Farve and the Jets. Blech. This would have been a colossal face off had Tom been in there, but no excuses. I hope Randy Moss steps up to be the Captain that his team elected him to be. All eyes will be on him. My Steelers face the Clowns, er , the Browns. SOme of the idiot "defenders" if you can call them that. (The Browns have a defense?) have said they will do anything to bring Ben down, even if they have to be fined. :( That is all I need, is for BEN to be out for the year. Nice. :( My season is pretty much over as it is.
The rest of the match ups seem ok. The Texans and Ravens like I said in that other blog have their game post poned and have THIS week as their bye week. Gosh, 15 straight games they have to play. Yikes. Bengals play the Titans. Vince sits out , with a knee injury but who knows when he will play. Cowboys vs the Eagles should be good at MNF. Cardinals I believe play the Dolphins. That is ok. I am not sold on the Cards yet. The rest is ok.
Here is a little horse racing: Big Brown, the Derby and Preakness winner of this year won today's Monmouth Stakes.
Well, the NFL has arrived and my goodness, it has with a BANG, but more later. Here is what I thought about Unforgiven.
Show was decent. HBK vs Y2J is my match of the year candidate. Awesome match by both men. Loved it. Best match of this year for me. Period. HBK, in particular was brilliant. Jericho was awesome also. Great job. Kudos to both. The worst match had to be, even though I am so happy for Matt Hardy getting his first major title was the ECW Scramble. Total clusterfudge. The Diva match was ok. Hope McCool is ok. Smackdown Scramble match was cool. Hunter retained. Yay. Priceless won and debuted a new member of an apparant stable they are forming with Randy Orton. I am glad that apparantly Orton is possibly gonna return , at least to be a mouthpiece till he can actually wrestle. Interesting to see that they got the belt off of CM Punk without him being in the match. Glad Jericho won (FINALLY he has the belt), but I still think it was a cheap way to get the belt off of Punk, and I don't really like Punk all too well. I was pulling for Batista to win. :( I see that they turned Big Show. I do ,now looking back that they were setting that up. Well, I guess I could put up with a heel show until the REAL TOP HEEL, EDGE returns, which I am hearing is SOON. :) Can't wait.
Anyway, that was my opinion of the PPV.
Now to the NFL: Mixed bag of a day for me Sunday. My Giants kicked off the season with a win as I have mentioned. HOWEVER, on Sunday, both my Steelers and Patriots won, but man, Tom Brady , IMO, the best QB in the league and the best QB in modern times went down with a knee injury (believed to be a torn ACL and MCL) and is on IR and is out for the season. I know the haters who are jealous, and are pissed about the Pats "running up the score" (if they had a team like the Pats, they would do it too. Whatever) and Spygate (I bet Senator Sphincter is jumping up and down. Hey Specter, your Iggles are still not winning the Super Bowl with McOverrated at QB), are happy about this news. They have been wanting this to happen. Hope they are happy. They better wish nothing happens to their QB, especially Steeler fans who have been leading the charge as it almost happened to Ben.....got a hyperextended knee when hit by Amobe Okoye yesterday against the Texans which the Steelers ROUTED.
Anyway, Tom: GET WELL SOON! I am confident the Pats will rally and as Edge's tattoo on his arm says: the Pats will "rise above."
In Week One: How about them Chargers? This is supposed to be the "best team in the League?" How did they get surprised by the Panthers? What about the supposed "elite" QB Carson Palmer of the Bengals? Hmmm? And they call BEN OVERRATED? Whatever? Palmer got schooled by a rookie QB in Joe Flacco of the Ravens yesterday. What happened to that high powered offense of the Bengals? Sure McOverrated and the Iggles crushed the Rams. They are the Rams. Duh. How about them Clowns, er Browns, the wiseguy pick to do well in the playoffs? Got whooped by the Cowboys. Wait till Big Ben and the Steelers come to town to lay the smackdown on the Browns' candy **** next Friday night. What about Kitna and his Lions. Another ex Bengal who got whooped by a rookie, Matt Ryan and the Falcons. Farve and his Jets beat Miami. How about Vince Young's partial hissy fit and then getting booed? What's that all about? He is hurt too and out for 2-4 weeks.
Tonight is a double header. Vikings vs the Packers. Let's see if the Packers in their infinite wisdom did the right thing. Rodgers has to start some time. I think though, that Adrian Peterson and the gang will win this. Raiders and the Broncos.....I could care less about this matchup. Hate the Raiders with all my being. Does the Immaculate Reception or the Tuck Rule Game ring a bell? LOL
