Hi there folks!...Here I am again, broadcasting to you my unbiased predictions for the upcoming WWE Pay Per View. Up next for WWE is Backlash 2009. Before I begin, let me voice out that this blog post is not a spoiler of what is about to happen this Sunday. Rather, all that you are going to see in this blog post are mere hypotheses or intelligent guesses from yours truly. My bases for these guesses are derived from events transpired in the WWE's weekly programming, Raw, ECW, Superstars and Smackdown prior to the coming WWE Pay Per View. With that, let me now give you my guesses for Backlash 2009...
World Heavyweight Champioship: Last Man Standing Match
55% to John Cena and 45% to Edge. First of all, I believe that this is going to be the main event of the evening based on the extreme rules of the match. Then about my pick, first let me say that this one is so hard to predict because of the caliber of these both Superstars. But I picked The Doctor of Thuganomics to win this one because of what the WWE is doing to the Big Show. Recently, Big Show is unstopabble, and the commentators are kept telling that Big Show started his rampage after he failed to win the World Title at Wrestlemania 25. So, it keeps me thinking that WWE is planning to put the Big Show in a championship match at Judgment Day. And the most suited of all is to put him against the World Champion. And since Big Show is drafted to Raw, it is possible that Show would, once again, challenge Cena for the World Title provided Cena wins at Backlash. On the other hand, Smackdown doesn't have a world title which makes Edge, as far as I'm concerned, also a likely winner of the match. But remember, C.M. Punk, who is Mr. Money in the Bank, is drafted to Smackdown. Punk might be the one, once again, to bring a world championship back to his brand which is Smackdown.
WWE Championship: 6-Man Tag Team Match:
51% to Triple H, Shane McMahon and Batista and 49% to Legacy. First, let me reiterate the stipulations of the match: If any of the Legacy beat any of HHH's team, Randy Orton wins the championship. Whether any of HHH's team is pinned, submits, or even disqualified and counted-out, a title change will happen. My basis for this match is like this: If HHH's team shows any cooperation or co-exist in any WWE shows prior to Backlash, then The Game would retain the WWE Title. With what I saw this past Raw, I first thought that RKO's team will win but when I saw what happened on Smackdown, I changed my mind. At last, Shane O'Mac and The Animal co-existed as a team and beat Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase in a tag team match. But I don't think that this is going to be the final chapter between The Legend Killer and The King of Kings. The only way for any two Superstars to end their rivalry is to have a one on one match with a No DQ stipulation, just like Cena and Edge. And the only way to end a rivalry with The Cerebral Assassin, as far as I'm concerned, is to meet him inside Hell in a Cell. So, possibly, on Judgment Day or even on a further pay per view, these two would finally clash inside The Devil's Playground. By the way, this match is also hard to predict.
ECW Championship:
60% to Jack Swagger and 40% to Christian. This is another match that is hard to predict. My basis why I chose The All-American American to win is still Tommy Dreamer. Remember, Dreamer announced that if he never gets the ECW Championship before his contract expires, he would finally hang his boots for good. That's why I still keep choosing a Heel to win the ECW Championship Match because we all know that Dreamer is a Face. What about Captain Charisma? I think, eventually he would capture the ECW Title but not yet until Dreamer's story has materialized whether Dreamer's story would materialize in a positive way or in a negative way.
I Quit Match:
55% to Jeff Hardy and 45% to Matt Hardy. This is another match that is hard to predict. The Hardy Brothers have already faced each other twice and Matt won both. This will be the third time and to end the match is to force your opponent to utter the words "I Quit". I think Jeff would finally beat his older brother this time. And since Matt is drafted to Raw, I think that this is going to be their last match against each other as a rival.
Money in the Bank Rematch:
60% to Kane and 40% to C.M. Punk. My bases for picking The Big Red Monster are their two matches before Backlash. At Raw The Straightedge Superstar pinned Kane. This happened before their match was announced. Then after their match was announced, they had a tag team match at Superstars. This time Kane's team won the match. Then this past Smackdown, they were again involved in a tag team and once more Mr. Money in the Bank was on the losing side. These two events led me to choose Kane as the winner coming this Sunday. If this would happen, there could be another match between this two, this time, to fight for the right to be called Mr. Money in the Bank.
A Legend's Revenge:
70% to Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat and 30% to Chris Jericho. It was originally planned that Jericho would be in a match against a Great WWE Legend or against Mickey Rourke at the 25th Anniversary of Wrestlemania. Originally, the intended Legend to fight Y2J was believed to be Hulk Hogan and eventually, Y2J was planned to lose against either of these two or to Mickey Rourke. But with all that had happened, Mickey Rourke backing out, the story leakages and Hogan's back surgery, WWE has decided to pit Steamboat, Piper and Snuka in a 3-on-1 Handicapped Match against Y2J on The Grandest Stage of Them All. On Wrestlemania 25, all of us were surprised to see that Steamboat has still got it and stood toe to toe against Y2J. But to give way to Rourke's intended knock-out punch, WWE decided to let Jericho beat the Legends and challenged Rourke from the audience. That is why I think this time Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat, a WWE Hall of Famer, will win this Sunday.
Will C.M. Punk cash-in the Money in the Bank Briefcase?
60% to Yes and 40% to No. Remember that Smackdown has no world championship on their brand and as I said before, The Straightedge Superstar might be the one to bring back a World Title on the show.
If Punk would really cash-in the Briefcase at Backlash, on what Championship he would do it?
90% to World Heavyweight Championship and 10% to WWE Championship. Remember that the WWE Championship is pitted in a 6-Man Tag Team Championship. It would be foolish for Punk to cash-in the Briefcase against the WWE Champion after the 6-Man Tag Team Match because the WWE Champ, whoever he is, will surely have back-ups. That is why, if he would cash-in the briefcase, it is most opportunistic to do it against the eventual winner of the Last Man Standing Match who will surely be the World Champion.
There you go folks, my unbiased predictions for WWE Backlash 2009. As they say, anything can happen in the WWE which means that I could be wrong or I could be right. If you have any comment regarding this blog post, you are welcome to send it to me. Until next time. Ciao!
