Paul Heymans top 5 most underutilised talents in pro-wrestling today, who came in number 1?
1. Randy Orton:
What? How can the most spotlighted heel in WWE be the most underutilised talent in wrestling?
Because how often is Randy Orton scripted to get real heat?
Orton's run with Shawn Michaels was based on HBK superkicking The Legend Killer into oblivion week after week on TV.
Orton's
storyline with Jeff Hardy was based on Hardy pinning the champ, and
then one-upping him at almost every turn. Orton's schedule with Cena
was the same story.
Ditto for HHH. The final week before WrestleMania, Orton tapped out to Ric Flair on Monday Night Raw.
On
a case-by-case scenario, there's nothing wrong with any of it. But put
into context, when does Orton get to make you hate him so badly, you're
willing to pay to see him get beat, or at least beaten up?
What heinous act has Orton committed against a babyface you care about?
The only time Randy is allowed to 'pile on the heat' is during promos, and admittedly he falls short in that department.
His
voice does drag. I concede, he doesn't have enough range. So, Orton
either needs a manager, or a full-time off-camera behind the scenes
interview coach.
The fact Orton carries the heat he does right
now, even though he really hasn't done anything in almost a year - when
he was given the credit for putting Shawn Michaels, Rob Van Dam, and a
host of legends on the shelf - is a testament to his ability to carry
himself like a main-event heel.
With a new round of contemptible actions added to the mix, Orton can be a far bigger superstar than he already is today.
so true, although I give Randy more credit then this, he has mic skills, better then half of the roster matter of fact, but this current *OH I'M PSYCHO I KICK HEADS, I HEAR VOICES, I JUST STAND HERE AND GLARE AT PEOPLE WITH SOME DROOL ON MY CHIN* gimmick is so..........not him?
I mean I liked it at first, it was cool whatever, but Randy's naturally arrogant and thats why I loved him in the first place, he is with every right to be of course.
In my eyes he is the perfect all around wrestler, why not milk him for all he is worth? everything said about him is true, he is destined for greatness, I don't know why he's not being pushed harder
maybe it's the.......immature stunts he pulls off(which personally I find hilarious & endearing hah), but well, whatever, I still would rather watch him wrestle then get punished for destroying a hotel room or whatever.
When I took a break from watching wrestling he was still a rookie, kind of floating, those RNN segemnts were awesome hah, loved the hair!
and evolution was just forming, I was bored and distracted around that time though and couldn't keep up with wrestling anymore, so when I started watching again in 06 he was on RAW, and I missed most of evolution/his feud on smackdown with Taker
which sucks cause those were really GOOD years for his career.
I knew about Randy before he came to wwe, before he even started in ovw actually cause I used to read wrestling news sites alot and read something about a 3rd generation wrestler etc etc and they had a link to his official website, so I went and I was like 13 hah, and if you've seen the picture of him and the towel? yea those, he had those on that site, I was like *sha-wing!!!!!* and there was an e-mail actually for contacting him hah, like this was the real deal he had like blogs? which I heard is why the site got deleted or something eventually cause he was saying too much I don't even remember
so I e-mailed him wishing him luck and telling him he was hot, such ridiuclous pre-teen blabber hah, and he replied though and was really nice, so as for him being an jerk, I don't care cause whatever he wasn't ever one to mee
once he was in a car with cody rhodes right and right when the car pulled out towards the crowd, HE DUCKED! everyone started booing hahaha, I even got mad at first but then I laughed and was like "he would" it's hilarious really, cause that's so typical of him, thats why I love him in & out of wrestling though, he's real, no apologies.
But I just think if I worked for wwe or something, or was Vince, I would look at Randy and see money, I mean, he was BORN with a gimmick come on, his physique? flawless, he has the height & weight, he's damnnn nice to look at too, wrestling? good enough, he's not ya know a bret hart or a aj styles, kurt angle, etc etc, but he's had some GREAT matches, he can hold his own with any main event guy, he can also make alot of guys look good, lots of my favorite matches have involved Randy. His mic skills? as of late are.....bland, he says some good stuff at times though and it's believeable, but I prefer the comedic side, he was such a **** in like 04-05ish and I loved it, hilarious stuff.
I just didn't know why when I started watching again, week after week he was JOBBING? like constantly! it was depressing to see such talent go to waste, he was also looking bloated as hell at the time, I'd say he's a guy that looks WAY better off the roids, but yea.
I mean I could go into much more detail about his career that I have followed for so long, and why he has become my favorite wrestler, but it'd be like a 10 page essay here hah.
I have the most powerful families of pro-wrestling DVD, and The Ortons are in it of course, and Eric Bischoff says something about Randy I completely agreed with.
He basically says, if you look at other main event guys they don't match up to Randy at all, I mean Randy's 28 now? he's been wrestling for the wwe since he was like 22? and look at the amazing career he's had so far, the matches. No one probably even knew/cared about the name "orton" but he changed that.
What were Stone Cold, Undertaker, Hulk Hogan all doing at 28? I can tell you none had held the world heavy weight championship, wwe championship, intercontinental championship, and tag team titles, but Randy has, all at 28. Granted he is a 3rd generation wrestler, he's had most things handed to him on a silver platter, but I don't think anyone can say he's been slacking because of that, they say kids who have wrestler parents work harder, I don't think Randy works harder, I think he's just a natural, I never seen anyone take a bump as graceful as him hahaha, really, maybe it's the long legs idk!
but yea, basically I agree with Heyman(why did you hafta fire him!!!), Randy is very under-rated and underutilised, sad.

I have to agree with you here.Randy Orton is such a great wrestler and very much under rated among the top players of wwe right now!I just love the way he has a natural ****eyness about himself and u can tell he a argont s.o.b!!!If anyone wants to see what i belive is randy's best match watch his match at O.N.S against Kurt Angle the way he was in that match was amazine...everyone booing him yet he kept saying they were his fans...love it...I think randy should keep it up he one of the best heels out there!
