The House Of Style - Episode V

Tuesday, August 19, 2008, 06:29 PM EST [General]

Welcome back to the House, let's dive right in...

Summer Slam has come and gone and it was a decent PPV. The disappointing match of the night was Matt Hardy vs Mark Henry, but I think that's why they were place on the card so close to the open. Matt looked good, but once again Mark Henry couldn't wrestle his way out of a plastic bag.

The two best matches, in my humble opionion, were the Hell in a Cell match. The Undertaker has been in that enviornment so much that i thik he could wrestle Michael Cole in the Cell and still have a good match. The only thing that "irked" me was the "fakeness" of that ending. I know the whole "supernatual powers" thing is part of 'taker's gimmick, but come on... fire from under the ring? And besides, I thought fire was Kane's thing? I can't want to hear what kind of half-assed reasoning they use to explain how Edge "just barely escaped" the flames. The only thing that was worse this year was the JBL/Cena/Car Accident thing on Raw.

The second match I liked was the intergender tag team match. Everyone invovled worked well together and mixed it up. Most of the time those type of matches can turn into a "botch-fest" but this one was very clean. I applaud Santino, Kofi, Mickie, & Beth for a great match.

Now, I mentioned Kane a paragraph back and I'd like to get back to him for a second. How many times is WWE going to do the same old thing with him? For years they've turned him heel by doing the same "he's gone crazy" stuff. Then, eventually, he just goes back to being a face and suddenly he's sane again. Wait a few months and then here we go again. Try something new already will ya? Although, going back to his old music was a nice touch.

Chris Jericho beating CM Puck last night, even with a distraction, was very poor booking. I'm not claiming to be some booking genius or anything, but Punk is the champ for crying out loud. I shouldn't be surprised though, WWE is notorious for jobbing face wrestlers in their hometowns to get the heel more heat.

And yet another champion is being made to look weak as well. Michelle McCool won the Divas title at The Great American Bash and has had all of one televised win since.

I've had a steady stream of about seven readers for the "House..." and I would just like to say thank you to those of you that read what I have to say. I would like a comment now and again though. ;-)

Cryme Tyme stealing the Tag Titles on Raw was great. As they say: "If you desire it... we'll aquire it." Looks like that holds true for what they "desire" as well.

I'm no fan of Rhodes and DiBiase, but John Cena beating the World Tag Team Champions, single handed; one night after losing to Batista who was basicly dominated by Kane in a short segment, is the worst booking move since the Great Khali was the World Heavyweight Champion. I don't care who you are (except maybe Big Show or Great Khali) no one man should beat the Tag champions in a 2-on-1 Handi-cap match, without interference and/or a D.Q.

Am I being a little critical today? I'm usually not this nit-picky, but today I just felt like ****ing about what I feel to be poor choices.

Still no Freddie Prinze, Jr blogs in August. BOOOOO!

That's it for this edition. Until next time...

The House of Style - Episode IV

Friday, August 15, 2008, 06:34 PM EST [General]

One more time in the House, beyotches.

What in the world is with all of the WWE releases lately? This is seriously nuts. No one is safe, it seems. Even two referees where told to to hit the bricks.

The one that really rubs me the wrong way was the release of Kara Drew (AKA Cherry). WWE made her the manager of Duece and Domino and gave her a gimmick that fit with their's. However, ever since she had seperated from them she was stuck with the same look and pretty much the same gimmick. She was never given a chance to prove what she can do in the ring. Even if they didn't have something for her on Smackdown, they could have "traded" her to Raw where they desperately need face Divas and repackaged her with a more modern gimmick. The WWE women's division just lost even more credibility by releasing women that can actually wrestle while keeping women like Lena Yada and Tiffany who are nothing more than paid eye candy. Here's a tip WWE, if you want to save money but cutting people, try releasing the people that serve no purpose at all.

Now that I got that out of my system, I have to say that I wouldn't be surpised to see Kara pop up in TNA within the next few months. TNA has proven that Women's wrestling can be a draw, but yet WWE continues to ignore that fact. I don't get it.

By a show of hands, how many of you out there actually care about the HHH vs Great Khali match at Summer Slam?.......... That's what I thought. This match just has "Bad Match" writen all over it. HHH is a good worker, but not even he could carry Khali to a decent match let alone a good one.

Money, money... Yeah, yeah! Cryme Tyme for World Tag Team Champions. It's overdue. Maybe the "powers that be" are affraid that they try and auction off the belts if they win them.

That's if for this edition. Until next time...

The House of Style - Episode III

Tuesday, August 12, 2008, 09:35 PM EST [General]

Yes, I am back once again for another edition of the House.

As I said last time, I am not a Randy Orton fan, but I feel sorry for him and I'm glad that he's alright. A motorcycle accident like that isn't anything to make light of because that can be some serious stuff. Good thing he was smart enough to wear a helmet or it could have been a lot worse.

That begining said, the way that WWE and WWE.com covered this whole thing made me wonder if this whole "accident" is a work to try and shock everyone when Orton returns "early." However, I think that would be going too far so I hope that those thoughts are simply my conspiracy side running wild again.

Am I the only one that misses reading Freddie Prinze, Jr's blogs? I used to read them on a regualr basis and now that he's on the creative team we've gotten one. I'm feeling a little forgotten.

I was watching the CBS Evening news arlier and they had a story on how gas prices are effecting shipping rates. Now that's not exactly blog-worth except for the fact they interviewed the owner of a small business that ships chooked and frozen crab. The owner's name? Curt Engle. I had my back to the televison when they said the name and I had to whip around to see what was going on. And, of course, my brother had to make the comment that "TNA must not pay enough" which caused me to nearly choke on my dinner with laughter.

I'm really loving the WWE.com Summer Skin photos. They allow us all to see all of the divas in a different way than just in the ring. That being said though, after viewing the photos up until now, I have learned two things: 1. I miss Melina more than I thought. (get well soon) and 2. Beth Phoenix really needs to stop with all those headbands. The headbands Beth always wears makes me think that she's trying WAY too hard to try and come off as Wonder Woman. I know it's kind of your "thing" but seriously...

John Cena and Batista losing the World Tag Team titles last night was a dumb move, in my opinion. The only thing that was dumber was the fact that they won them in the first place. The whole thing was a watered-down and condenced version of the Matt Hardy vs MVP thing from a few months ago. Everyone and their Mother knew that they couldn't coexist as a team and it would eventually break down into a brawl. They should have just had the brawl in their first match with Rhodes & DiBiase and then done something else last night.

I enjoyed seeing Cherry in something other than the standard 50's like attire last Friday Night. With Duece now on Raw and Domino released, Cherry needs to get an updated look and could benefit from one. She's a better performer than she's given credit for.

That's it for this edition. Until next time...

The House of Style - Episode II

Sunday, August 10, 2008, 07:39 PM EST [General]

I'm back for another edition of the House of Style. Let's get right into things.

Last time I posed the question that I wondered if anyone actually reads these things. And, at last check, I got my answer. A few people do and I thank those of you that read my last ramblings. All seven of you. Even with a small ammount of readers for my first blog, I will continue on and, hopefully, I can gain more and more readers as I continue on.

Did anyone else see Freddie Prinze Jr. on an old Family Matters rerun on Nick at Nite last night? It was a small, bit part, but he did have a line or two. I think it might have been one of his first speaking gigs, but I don't know much about his acting career so I dunno.

Summer Slam isn't far off and, honestly, I'm only excited for a few matches and not for the reasons you'd expect.

I'm eager to see if CM Punk will hold onto the World Heavyweight title and I really want to see if Matt Hardy can finally gain that a "World" title. I have a feeling that on one of those will happen. And I don't think it's #2. Which is unfortunate for Matt.

For some reason I just can't seem to get excited for Cena vs Batista. I want to and I know I probably should, but I just can't seem to care. This is their first one-on-one match and it'll be interesting to see who comes out on top, but I'm just not buying the hype that the WWE is selling.

Now that I think about it, I haven't had that "feeling" for a really big match in a while. I think the last time was Michaels vs Austin at WrestleMania 14 and, to a lesser extent, Rock vs Hogan at WM X-8. Since then though, I haven't really watched a match and been so far into what could happen that I was on the edge of my seat, cheering and spilling whatever I happen to be drinking all over my couch.

Does anyone else feel this way about Cena vs Batista? I'd like to know if you'd like to leave me a comment.

From the whispers and rumors on the internet Randy Orton is due to return sometime soon. Now, I am far from an RKO fan, but I think an Orton vs Punk match could equal more ratings than most people would have thought just a few months ago.

Speaking of returns, Candice Michelle is likely to return from her second collar bone injury soon as well and I hope she can stay healthy this time. I think she does too.

That's it for this blog guys... Until next time.

The House of Style - Episode I

Thursday, August 7, 2008, 07:01 PM EST [General]

I know I'm probably not going to have any regular readers or anything, but I just thought it was time for me to get down some random thoughts that have been running in my head to see if I'm on the ball or if I'm thinking outside of the box. So fasten your seat belts guys because I'll probably be all over the map.

Before I really get going, I have to wonder... does anyone actually read these things? I'm pretty sure Freddie Prinze's got views because he's famous and J.R.'s get reads because when JR speaks, wrestling fans listen. However, I truely wonder if anyone ever truely reads the fan blogs. I know most are just random thoughts (like this one) and complaining about what they don't like and praising their favorites, but I think there are some truely good ideas from the fans that will simply get lost in the pile of other blogs.

Is it just me or is the Women's division on Raw badly missing Melina right now? Mickie just seems so lonely right now. Katie Lea, Beth, Jillian, & Layla are all on the heel side of things and with Melina out of action and Maria moved to Smackdown. Mickie is left with Kelly as an ally. Not there's anything wrong with Kelly, but she's still learning the ropes when it comes to the in-ring wrestling and Mickie is left flying solo against a barrage of the other Divas coming after her. However, I guess that's just the nature of being the champ.

Speaking of Melina, does anyone else out there in cyber space think that her Reverse Facelock into Falling Splits Neckbreaker finisher finally need a name? I tend to have too much spare time on my hands and I usually end up mulling it over and over in my head. I know that sounds more like an obsession, but I'm odd like that I guess. Moving back to the subject, it's a great move and I think great moves need a name so they stand out. I thought of few possible names and I was wondering if they sound good in real life or just in my head so what a better sounding board than here?

First I thought about calling it the "Blockbuster" but there's already a move called that. Then came the idea to call it the "Shutter Snap" but for some reason, I think that's one that sounds better in my head then out loud. The "Final Cut" sounded good, but, yet again, that's a already name that's already being used. Although, Big Show hasn't used it in a while and the moves are kind of similar so it is a possible name I guess. The final names I have lying in my head are "Cali-Cut", "Latin Guillotine", & "Falling Star".

Those are just the ones that I've come up with in my spare time. Does anyone else have anything else that they think would be a good name for the move?

Is it obvious yet that I'm hoping that this will be read and one of my names will be used?

The Beth Phoenix/Santino Marella thing is really starting to give me deja vu. Eddie Guerrero/Chyna from a few years ago sound familiar?

Speaking of Beth, I really, really, really, really, really, HATE her nickname. "The Glamzon" sounds like a bad 80's hair band or a transvestite superhero. Now, don't get me wrong, it's nothing person against Beth because she has incredible talent, but that nickname is like nails on a chalkboard to me whenever I hear it.

Santino Marella is a comedy genius. His line from a few weeks ago when Kane asked him if he had seen Punk and he suggested checking the Pepsi machine still makes me laugh. I damn near spit out my beverage while watching it originally.

Mike Adamle may be a bad Raw GM (and he is), but at least in this role we only have to see and, most importantly, hear him about a fourth of the time we would have if he was still an announcer.

I do have more, but I think I've gone on long enough. Until next time...
