The House Of Style - Episode X

Tuesday, May 26, 2009, 06:09 PM EST [General]

After a 7 month hiatus... the House is back! Sorry for not posting in all that time, but I had other stuff that needed my attention and since I only averaged five readers each time I posted this, I didn't think I'd be missed by too many people. That said, time to get things going...

I know the Judgment Day PPV has come and gone, but I want to go back a tough of something from that real quick. In a promo Jeff Hardy pointed out the fact that when Edge wins the title he then loses it in his first defense. As soon as he said that I knew Jeff would not be winning the title at Judgment Day because, 99.9% of the time whenever someone points something like that out about their opponent in a promo, it doesn't happen. That being said, I'm still thinking Jeff will not win at Extreme Rules either because it's pretty obvious that the WWE thinks more of Edge than they do of Jeff.

Please get Santino out of drag. No one is buying this "twin sister" B.S. It wasn't entertaining at WrestleMania XXV when it started and it's still not entertianing. It's really sad. There have been reports that Vince is "down" on the Divas matches again, but what do expect when your main focus of the division is a joke of a former Intercontinental champion dressed in drag. If you want to use Santino as a comedy act, then do it, if he doesn't care then neither do I, but get him out of the Divas' matches and don't even get me started on that abortion of a match at Extreme Rules with Vickie Guerrero.

Speaking of Extreme Rules, I must say that I hate that PPV name. One Night Stand is a million times better and they should have just stuck with that name. The WWE is reportedly thinking of adding a Submissions themed PPV to the calanader and I have to express my distain for that idea. WWE has too match PPVs as it is now. Having two or three weeks between PPvs to build feuds and announce matches is a joke. If WWE wants us to pay to watch their PPVs they seriously neeed to cut the number to one per month, maximum, and actually build feuds and quit trying to rely on "name power" to sell PPVs.

Getting back to the Divas for a moment, after reading some blogs and other things around the net I know for a fact that I'm not the only one that is completly perplexed by the recent Maryse/Kelly Kelly feud. Who did Mickie James anger to get thrown to the side like she has been? After two straight pin falls over Maryse, Mickie is suddenly pushed to the side and Kelly is given the shot (and to you K2 fans reading this blog, this is not a dig at Kelly in any way) that she, in my opinion, shouldn't be getting quite yet. Now if WWE was going for the "swerve" by having Kelly win the Battle Royal for a contendership that should have been Mickie's anyway, that's OK. A swerve is a nice way to keep us "smarks" guessing a bit. But then the following week Mickie is stuck in a match with Santino and is no where to be seen in the Divas title match that has an ending that makes absolutely no sense to me (a DQ for pushing Kelly into the table? Really? WTF?) and leaves the ending open for a Maryse/Kelly rematch and looks as if Mickie's "feud" with Maryse is done before it even got started. And with Michelle McCool the number one contender to the Women's title on Smackdown now, I'm begining to smell an Undertaker dating rat having something to do with it. Read into that whatever you want.

Nice to see David Hart (don't call me Harry) Smith back up on one of the main show rosters finally. His group with Kidd and Natalya should be good if handled right. Their feud with Finaly has me thinking that, with the talk of calling up Sheamus O'Shaunessy from the developmental system, now might be the time to do it and pair him up with his fellow Irishman to counter act the numbers The Hart Trilogy currently have. However, that probably won't happen because it makes too much sense and we all know how WWE hates to do that recently.

That's it for this edition. Until next time...

The House Of Style - Episode IX

Saturday, October 4, 2008, 05:03 PM EST [General]

The House is back, ba-bay! Let's delve into things, shall we?

I'm really starting to like the Morrison/Miz vs Cryme Tyme thing that they have going on Raw right now. I think it could turn into a great tag team angle and, lets face it, there's not a lot of good tag angles around anymore. I did get a little upset when Cryme Tyme lost the tag match and then JTG lost the shingles match, but I think that if they go in the right direction from right now this whole thing will be great. The Hoodstarz lose, M&M get cocky, then the Boyz from the Hood take advantage. I could see the end of this having Miz and Morrison breaking as a team and moving back into singles competition. I think they should have some of the angle appear on ECW though. Just having it on Raw doesn't really make sense, in my opinion.

How well did Mickie James and Jamie Noble look as a team last Monday night? It might just be my own perception, but I think they functioned as a, and forgive the cliche, well-oiled machine. Some of the so-called tag teams out there don't look that good some of the time. I don't know if that speaks to Mickie and Jamie's vercitility or if it was just one of those things. Either way, it was good.

Saying in that same general topic, I'm liking the pairing of Layla and William Regal. I know it's still early on, but it had a vibe about it that I'm digging. On a personal note, I'd love to see Regal work with Layla behind the scenes to help her improve her in-ring abilities. If he does and she catches on, she could be great in the near future.

I just read that the WrestleMania XXIV broadcast on MyNetwork TV on Thursday did a pretty small rating. I don't want to say that I predicted it, but I kind of did. I know it the epic show of all WWE, but what did they expect airing a trimmed-down version 7 months after it first happened and, roughly, 5 months after the DVD came out? Pretty much everyone one that wanted to see it has already.

Please take the Intercontinental title away from Santino. For the love of all the greats that have held the belt please do it soon. Every time he walks to the ring with the belt I die a little inside. He's a comedic heel. He shouldn't be the IC champion. he's supposed to help get the mid-card faces over not drag down the value of the IC title by being the man-beyotch of the Women's champion. And whats wosre was having him squashed by Batista. The IC champion should NEVER be squashed like that. I know Batista is a former World champion, but I don't care. Squashing the Intercontinental title holder like that makes the title look like cr*p because it's wearer can't last longer than 10 seconds in a match.

No Mercy is tomorrow and the card is looking pretty good. I'm looking foreward most to the Ladder match myself. I'm 99% sure that Shawn will lose the match, but I have no doubt that it it will be an awesome performace by Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho.

Speaking of Shawn and Ladder matches... have you ever noticed that whenever they say something is someone "specialty match" the person that they're talking about usually loses those type of matches? Like Shawn, he's been in something like 4 or 5 ladder matches and I'm pretty sure he's lost the all so far.  Same for Jeff Hardy and Ladders, he's only won 1 or maybe 2. And the Undertaker in Casket or Burried Alive matches. He has yet to win a Burried Alive match and in the 8 or so Casket matches he's been in he's won 3 or 4. About the only exception to that is Edge and TLC matches where he's only lost once in about 3 or 4 matches.

Freddie Prinze, Jr finally popped in for a blog recently and I marked out. ;-)

Carlito and Primo Colon are the best team on the SmackDown roster and I'll fight anyone that says other wise.

Any fans of the SmackDown vs Raw video games out there? Recently THQ put up the roster list, but it has since been removed. However, not before it was leaked out to the internet gaming communitee. I have seen the list and I have to say that it is top notch. I've only found 4 people, of 62,  in the game that are no longer with the company (Ashley, Ric Flair, Trevor Murdoch, and Bid Daddy V). After last year's game had a roster of almost half of the guys gone, I think THQ did a great job. Also this game contains the largest roster of Divas ever seen in an SvR game with 11. Included in those 11 is Victoria which I am glad to see in the game for the first time since the original SmackDown vs Raw. The game, according to IGN, will release in the U.S. on November 9th and I, for one, cannot wait.

That's it for this edition eveyone. Until next time...

The House Of Style - Episode VIII

Saturday, September 20, 2008, 06:04 PM EST [General]

We're going to delve right into this time boys and girls...

First up: What is up with Vladimir Kozlov attacking Triple H and Jeff Hardy the past few weeks? Is WWE trying to move him up the card by making the WWE Champion and the #1 contender look completely weak? I don't doubt Kozlov's strength or toughness, but he's has the personality of a dry sponge. He has the talent, but no personality and last I checked charisma was a BIG part of making it big in the WWE and WWE has released guys with great athletic talent because they had no charisma to speak of. Yet, Kozlov is suddenly getting shoved in our faces harder than he was before. I'm no fan of Triple H, but his program with Jeff Hardy shouldn't be interweaved with the charasmatic backhole known as Vladimir Kozlov.

Speaking of Jeff Hardy, I am truly praying for him right now. I'm starting to think that he's self-destructive. Just when it looks as if he's finally going to get the WWE or World Heayweight title he either does something or something happens to mess that up. The latest case being Jeff being denied entry onto a plane in Tennessee because he was alledgedly "noticably intoxicated." As far as I know alcohol does not fall under the WWE Wellness Policy so I don't believe that this would be his "third strike" that would mean his dismissal from WWE, but still. If I were this close to the edge of the cliff he's walking right now I'd be sure to make an extra effort to keep my nose clean. We're all rooting for you Jeff. Hang in there.

Was it just me or was Carlito's mic work on SmackDown some of the best he's done in a while. I really think that teaming him up with his brother was a really good move because he appears to have more energy than he's had in almost a year. I'm also glad he got rid of the corn-rows in his hair. The look did not suit him well, in my humble opinion.

Moving from SmackDown to Raw now I feel obligated to say that I was extremely disappointed with the show on Monday Night. I don't know what it was, but I just couldn't seem to get into the show. Maybe it was the fact that they started the show with the match that should have ended it. It was a good match and my hat's off to Jericho and Punk for a good match, but the show didn't really have much to offer, in my opinion, to keep my attention. I know some of you might be thinking that I was more interested in Monday Night Football, but here on the west coast MNF is live and Raw is on a three hour delay so the game was close to over by then so that's not it. I don't think it was "sub-par" in terms of the Superstars and Divas' performances, but the whole just seemed to carry a, for lack of a better term, "blah" feeling about it.

Moving on now, I must say I am really starting to dig the pairing of Rey Mysterio and Evan Bourne. I don't think they're going to made into a tag team (not yet at least) but they seem to work with the same type of mindset when they tagged. The whole "master and student" thing has been done before, but I really think that it's use here (if that's where it goes) would be a great move. As long as we don't have one turning on the other to break the angle. That ending has been over done to death.

That's it for this edition. Until next time...

The House Of Style - Episode VII

Friday, September 12, 2008, 07:35 PM EST [General]

OMG! The House is back after a bit of a break and the crowd goes wild...

Yeah, I know, shut up and get on with it...

First thing for this edition I have to say I told you so. Cryme Tyme should be World Tag Team champions right now. They are more over with the crowd now than at any other point so what do we get at Unforgiven? Exactly what I said would happen in Episode VI of the House... more Rhodes and DiBiase crammed down our throats. Priceless does have bright futures ahead of them, but putting the tag titles on them is jumping the gun. I thought Rhodes winning the title with Hardcore Holly was pushing too hard as well.

Speaking of Unforgiven, I'd like to send out my personal congratulations to Matt Hardy on winning the Euro...oops, sorry... the ECW title. Nothing against Matt but that title is about on the same level as the European title was when it was active. However, I hope you have a long and successful reign.

Another congratualtions also goes out to Triple H for burrying four new guys on the WWE roster. I was truely rooting for Jeff to win, but I knew that with SmackDown's move from the CW to My Network TV that it would never happen because they are still convinced that Triple H is their best option as champion for ratings. Dispite the Raw ratings from earlier in the year, and before, that you point out otherwise. It's become evident that WWE is trying so hard to get Triple H to Ric Flair's record of 16 World titles that anyone that says that they're not obviously has they head burried in the sand or somewhere else for that matter.

Sticking with the Unforgiven theme for a minute I feel compelled to say that the World Heavyweight title change was one of the most craptastic things I have ever seen on WWE programing. Chris Jericho winning the World title on the same night that he wrestles Shawn Michaels in a match in which he's beaten so badly that the ref stops the match, not matter how he might have won the title in the match, is just plain stupid. Don't get me wrong, Jericho does deserve to be a World champion, but how it was done was stupid. If they wanted Punk to drop the belt they should have just have done it on Raw after the PPV. Punk being forced out of a defense to "sell" the Orton "punt" on a PPV is weak. They could have done that on Raw too.

Speaking of that "punt" move Randy Orton does. Note to WWE booking: No one will ever believe that the move actually causes any type of injuries that you want us to believe you are completely delusional.

It's nice to see Candice Michelle back on Raw. There were some rambling on-line about her moving to SmackDown upon her return, but I'm glad that WWE decided to leave her on Raw. The Women's title scene had become heel heavy over the last few months with the injuries and trades. However, with the return of Candice, Mickie James has but removed from our televisions lately. While I think Mickie is indeed deserving of a bit of a break from the road after basicly being the face side of the women on Raw for near two months now, I think that even a backstage segment or even a mention would be nice as well.

It's September 12th and still no blog from Freddie Prinze, Jr since July 31. I feel more deprived every day... WHY FREDDIE WHY?!

I heard the other day that ECW and SmackDown are going to be broadcasting/taping here in Spokane on October 7th. It's actually their first appearance here in almost 4 years and yet I probably still won't go. Had it been Raw I would be in line for tickets right now, but really don't feel like watch more Triple H burrials of talent for $30 a ticket. At least on TV I can change the channel for a few minutes or mute it if I don't like a curtain part. And besides, it's right after No Mercy so it's just gonna be a giant PPV recap show so I think I'll just skip it.

Come to think of it... the last WWE show I was at live was the SmackDown tapings right after WrestleMania XIX in Seattle. It was the one where Sable returned to WWE. It was a pretty good show. I met Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas when they were still known as "Team Angle" and were WWE Tag Team Champions. I got a couple autographs and they had the tag titles displayed on the table they were at. The titles look shiner in person.

That's it for this edition guys... Until next time...

The House Of Style - Episode VI

Tuesday, August 26, 2008, 07:18 PM EST [General]

That's right the House is back.

First off, I just want to say that it's about tyme that Shad and JTG get a shot at the tag titles. Those guys are way over with the people and deserve a good title reign. The being said, I'm about 70% sure that Rhodes & DiBiase will will and continue to get pushed down our throats.

Speaking of pushing something down our throats, WWE seems to be bound and determined to push their new "Championship Scramble" to the point that there hasn't even been one wrestled yet and I'm already tired of the concept. Fair warning, the next part of my blog contains spoliers for tonight's ECW on SciFi so if you don't want to know, skip to the next paragraph... Instead of doing one for Raw and seeing how it goes over with the fans the WWE higher-ups decided that it was a good move to add one as not only the SmackDown Main Event for the WWE Championship, but also a third for the ECW Championship. Three in one night? Seriously WWE? It's an untried match concept and instead of testing the waters with one you book three. You're just setting this whole thing up to fail. Even if one or two of them are good, odds are, one will be terrible and that's the only one that will be remembered and will doom the match type to have an stigma of "suckage" surrounding it. It's like the old adage says: Less is more.

Santino Marella as the Intercontinental champion is devaluing the title by the day. He's a comedic heel designed to help get faces over and entertain. Right now he's basicly Beth Phoenix's, and please excuse the lanuage, man-b*tch. Beth is one tough woman and I could totally believe her being able to beat up Santino, but the IC champion playing "second-fiddle" to anyone other the the World champion makes the title look like a joke. And any title that has Steve Austin, Owen Hart, Bret Hart, Roddy Piper, & countless other greats in it's title history, should not be made to look like the belt of a uni-bow sporting, man-beyotch. Sure Chyna held the title too, but I'd rather try and block that from my memory.

It's been almost two weeks since I last mentioned Freddie Prinze, Jr. I wonder if I can keep that going... ah nuts... never mind.

Speaking of Freddie, I'm begining to think he's dropped off of the face of the planet. He said he'd continue his blog, but his last one was on July 31st and that makes me a sad panda. (Fans of South Park will get that "panda" reference.)

Too bad about John Cena's injury. Like him or not the guy is dedicated to the business and is passionate about it. For him to suffer another injury less than a year after returning to the ring from injury has to leave him feeling let down a bit by his own body. I guess the "silver-lining" in all of this is that it was a herniated disk and not a broken neck/vertabrae. Get well so John.

Another get well soon goes out, once again, to Melina. Raw needs you back.

Speaking of Diva's returning, I can't help, but wonder when the recently resigned Gail Kim will return to WWE programming. The question I have within my own thoughts is do you hype her return since most people know about it already or do you just have her pop-up from "nowhere"? The answer I usually arrive at is you have her return by helping Mickie James. Either by helping her beat Beth Phoenix (either for the title or in a match to get a shot) or by making the save for Mickie during a Beth "beat down" on Ms. James. Putting Gail anywhere other than Raw and as a face, at least until Melina returns, makes no sense to me at all. That being said, the way the booking is going lately, watch her pop-up on ECW or something.

If you think I'm being to critical of WWE right now I have to say that I agree with you. However, you must know that I've been a WWE fan for 20+ years. I've always been a WWE guy and always will be. Even through out the Monday Night Wars I was a WWE guy. It's just that right now I think they're really making some poor booking decisions on their shows. There are some really good things going such as CM Punk as the World champion and the movement of some of the younger guys up the card, but when the booking looks as if it's going to cause something that could be great to fail miserablely I feel compelled to speak up. Even if it is to the seven or so people that read this.

That's it for this edition party people. Until next time...
