When Chris Jericho in 2007 started the "SAVE_US" Campaign, we all went wild, nowadays the man who once tried to save us from all the boredom and agony started saying four simple and plain words...
"Save us? Save yourselves!"
Since we don't like the saying as is, the original "Save Us" Campaign was that of the 1994 Stanley Cup winning New York Rangers, who 15 years ago started to save us from the agony of "1940" and screwed out of winning.
The key guys of that unforgettable team included Mark Messier, their hard-working captain who in 1991 was traded to the Rangers to "Save us" from the dreaded "Curse of 1940," which kept the Rangers from winning the cup. 2 years later he lead this team to the promised land and brought home the biggest prize in hockey; Adam Graves, the heart of the team, joined the Rangers in 1991 as well, a brutal fighter as well as a playmaker and scorer; Brian Leetch, the Blueshirts' proud defenseman, winning a Calder Trophy for Rookie of the year in 1989, a Norris trophy for the NHL's top defenseman in 1992, and the first American-born player to winn the Conn Smythe Trophy in the Stanley Cup finals in 1994 for the most valuable player in the playoffs: Mike Richter, the goalie who never said die in the heat of battle. His penaly shot save off of Pavel Bure is is on of the greatest highlights in his career; and Stephane Matteau' game winning goal in the Easter Finals was the most memorable in New York Rangers Lore.
Simply put, these guys put Jericho to shame saying "Save us? Save yourselves!" to their face. He might want to eat those words.
The 1994 Rangers, not Chris Jericho, was the team to literally, and porposely... "SAVE_US" from agony and boredom.
