It’s been another big week in the WWE headlined by some Friday Night Smackdown Superstars spearheading Monday Night Raw to a MASSIVE TV rating, no I’m not talking about large, flat screens but the number of people actually watching Monday Night’ Raw, the announcement of the 2010 Wrestlemania heading to the desert, Ricky Steamboat going into the 2009 WWE Hall of Fame, and one of the best bell to bell, MyNetworkTV Friday Night Smackdown broadcasts in several weeks on tap Friday night.
Seriously, congrats to the Monday Night Raw brand for earning an awesome TV rating this past week as fans tuned in big time to see HHH confront Randy Orton. Raw blew away ESPN’s Big Monday college hoops doubleheader that actually featured the Kansas at Oklahoma Big 12 battle that yours
No Way Out is in the books, you know “the books,” and “My Tazz,” MyNetworkTV’s biggest star, and I are back from the Pacific Northwest after a couple of days in Seattle and two days in Portland. It was an interesting road trip to say the least, and I usually don’t … say the least that is.
In case you haven’t heard, Edge, who still works for his wife on Friday Night SmackDown, is the new World Heavyweight Champion much to the chagrin of the ubiquitous John Cena and the Raw Universe. WWE HOF’er Bobby “The Brain” Heenan has been called “Weasel” in the past, but I’m sure “The Brain” would be willing to loan Edge the “Weasel” moniker as that is how the Ontario native became an
It is great to get back to Norman, Okla., after one of the more challenging road trips in recent memory that included sitting in the lovely but talented Indianapolis Airport for approximately nine hours, Wednesday, with much of that spent watching the World’s Strongest Man hibernate in a chair built for someone the size of Hornswoggle. Henry’s snoring was epic and many folks took photos of him sleeping during our long weather-related delay. Bottom line, as “Stone Cold” would say, is that Mother Nature is undefeated and likely to stay such. It took me more than 14 hours to get from Indy to OKC on Wednesday. I know, poor me.
The Joe Louis Arena was rocking on Sunday night on what I thought was a very solid night of WWE action especially in the ECW, World Title and
Somehow we have survived a chaotic, three-hour Monday Night Raw marathon in Philly, an unpredictable night of Friday Night SmackDown in Bridgeport, Conn., Tuesday evening, a late-night trip to a LaGuardia Airport area hotel Tuesday night where I wouldn’t want to take a leisurely walk after midnight without weapons, AND riding the “loop” with the “World’s Angriest Announcer” Tazz who is in full Long Island Baseball mode smack dab in the middle of winter.
Oh yeah, I also took a side trip driven by the dominating, former ECW Champion, the Human Suplex Machine, by the original ECW Arena in Philly and had not one but two Philly cheesesteak sandwiches from the world famous Tony Luke’s in Philly after Raw which felt like we had just broadcast the Jerry
Your resident Okie has been as busy as a fruit merchant this week working on a variety of WWE projects including ECW, SmackDown, WWE 24/7, WWE Home Video, and WWE.com.
But alas all is well in Oklahoma as the business at J.R.’s Family BBQ Restaurants is good plus the No. 2 ranked Oklahoma Sooners have a huge, home game this Saturday night against the nationally-ranked TCU Horned Frogs.
For those of you that may be scratching your head on just what in the heck the meaning of “busy as a fruit merchant” is, please allow me to elaborate. When I was a kid growing up in eastern Oklahoma, fruit merchants would set up shop along varying intersections and sell fresh fruits and vegetables out of the back of their pickup trucks. If business wasn’t good in a particular
...From the land where people love’s J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q Restaurants more than they adore Olympian Michael Phelps, your resident Okie has a weekly helping of SmackDown and some delicious “side dishes” for your sports-entertainment taste buds.
Raw’s John Cena and Batista are now not on the other’s holiday card list. There’s a significant physical confrontation between these two this Sunday at the 21st SummerSlam. This one won’t resemble a Funk vs. Brisco mat classic from the 1970s, and my best guess is that we are going to see a slobberknocker of a brawl along the lines of those of yesteryear in my hometown tavern on a payday Friday night.
Prediction: I’m taking Batista and the points.
