I wanted to wish my good friend JR a speedy recovery. JR was head of talent relations and is the one that hired me back in late 1995 and we have been friends ever since. I have had the good fortune of going to games and different events with him and his lovely wife Jan over the years.
JR is a tough old Okie, I am willing to bet he comes through again just fine.
JR has done an awesome job with his Bar B Que shops in Oklahoma. You need to go by if you are there and check out some good southern Bar B Que.
I have always thougth that JR was the best ever on commentary. Not as good of a golfer as Michael Cole-who lives on a golf course, but his career has made him the number one of all time.
Speaking of commentators, I can't believe the King got such a rotten break on running for mayor, don't know if he would have won-but he deserved a chance. With politicians polling numbers running barely above mass murderers in approval, King had a chance and I hate the system shut him out.
Finally, I would be remiss to not say who was greatest color commentator of all time. King has the longevity. But in all fairness and completely unbiased-I have to say I was the best ever. Though King and I share the same birthday-along with Dutch Mantell. Of course the same day, King and Dutch are 42 years older than me.
Dutch, I understand is writing a book. In an industry full of great story tellers, Dutch could be the best-book should be great.
