Today's the anniversary of Eddie Guerrero's death and I want to kindly remember my good friend today.
I had known the Guerrero family for years and when I got the opportunity to work with Eddie on a main event level-only Eddie and a couple of others were supportive. Thanks to Eddie I got the opportunity to be the wrestling champion I had always dreamed of. My career and Eddie's will always be interlinked and I think that is great.
One reason I wanted Rey Mysterio as my last opponent was because of Eddie and the association.
All the crazy stuff we did during that time, I couldn't have done without Eddie. And, wouldn't have done without Eddie. The "heart attack" of his mother in El Paso was all Eddie and Chavo Sr's idea. The racist immigration stuff was Eddie's idea with my help. Eddie always wanted to be a bad guy and he used to feed me lines constantly, especially in front of heavy Mexican crowds.
I was the ultimate bad guy and Eddie was the ultimate good guy. The story line was the best in my career and something I will always cherish. Eddie actually lobbied for me to be champion, how's that for a guy being a friend and doing what he thought was right for the business.
I think of Eddie often and am thankful often. I don't think anyone outside of my family has had a bigger impact on my life than Eddie. Eddie was a groomsman in my wedding and I got the honor of delivering part of the eulogy and being a pall bearer at his funeral.
One reason I stay retired is because of Eddie, I want to enjoy my life now and my family. I had my time, just like Eddie, but my time has come and gone and now it's time for a new chapter in life-something Eddie would be proud of.
At our wedding, Eddie told me how happy he was for me-I think often about what he meant to me and I want to be able to live up to what he wanted for me.
Eddie had a life worth living, I hope mine will be the same. Cheers my dear friend, thinking of you today. And saying thanks one more time for all you have done for me.
