As was reported shortly after news broke that Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff signed with TNA, I've been told that the two signings were part of something much bigger going within the number two " wrestling promotion. Though either a timeslot change for iMPACT! (which Spike TV has denied and I've been told is not the case) or the addition of a new TNA broadcast (I've been told Monday night from 8-10EST) are at the forefront of speculation, another aspect breaking within the wrestling industry is that other major wrestling names will follow Hogan and Bischoff to TNA.
Here is a breakdown of the big names who are part of said speculation:
Steve Austin - Rumors have already been linking Austin to TNA, although sources close to him do not believe he wants to actively work with a wrestling company, as doing so would hinder his Hollywood credibility. I'd bet against this one according to my sources.
Bill Goldberg - TNA approached Goldberg independently of the Hogan/Bischoff deal, but there is not believed to be significant interest on Goldberg's part considering Bill thinks Hogan is a greesy ****
Ric Flair - As Flair has a contract that links him professionally to Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, one would assume Flair is joining TNA. At the same time, TNA has unsuccessfully tried to sign Flair in the past and it is not clear he would do something that puts him in such direct opposition with Vince McMahon. Flair would neither confirm nor deny his TNA prospects. I've heard rumblings that Flair is not ruling it out.
Diamond Dallas Page - Though his name has come up in rumors, he has personally given no indication that he's joining TNA.
Jimmy Hart - Despite being a close partner and collaborator with Hulk Hogan, Hart has said that he is not part of the TNA deal.
Kennedy - He is expected to remain distanced from wrestling as he pursues an acting career.
Rob Van Dam - Hogan and Bischoff are big proponents of getting RVD into the company, although he had not made a decision at press time.
According to a backstage source in WWE , I'm told people and wrestlers within the company were down playing the news of Hulk Hogan signing with TNA at last night's Smackdown taping in Rochester, NY. While there was definitely discussion among talent about his signing, it was more about how Hogan could help TNA, who he could work with and how he has a history of not putting over many people. There are mixed feelings within TNA over the signing.
Hulk Hogan'job role in TNA could be more than just appearing on television and the occasional match. Radio personality Bubba The Love Sponge has posted some comments on Twitter.com that stating that Hulk Hogan will have more power than virtually anybody in TNA.
Mr. Sponge wrote, "[Hogan] is the boss. Period. Him and Eric biscoff will run the show. Things are going to get interesting. Vince is going to have a **** fit."
He later added, "The boss boss. No work. He wouldn't go back to only be the work boss. He is the boss boss. Promise"
When asked by one of his Twitter follows what he meant by Hogan being the "boss", he clarified by saying, "He is the Booker. Period. Saw it in his contract. Terry and Eric won't make the same mistakes that they made at wcw."
WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog at JRsBarBQ.com with his thoughts on Hulk Hogan signing with TNA Wrestling and Hogan's ability to keep hiimself in the spotlight:
"Hogan makes big news this week launching his new book, talking Australian tour, and briefly mentioning TNA on what I saw of his Larry King appearance Tuesday night of which 'Ol Lar' phoned it in."
"Hulk Hogan is ALL over the news this week which re-establishes the premise that Hulk is one of the greatest, self promoters of all time...BROTHER! Now, that isn't necessarily a bad thing as any independent contractor who is entrepreneurial in spirit such as a pro wrestler has to have the ability to promote one's self in order to survive over time. Hogan is an old school guy, in many ways, so 'keeping one's self over' is nothing new and many guys have raised that skill to an art form but none better than Hulk.
As reported Kevin Nash has been suspended for TNA for a week for a Wellness Violation.
Rumors are spreading that he told Vince Russo to "Get Stuffed" Because TNA were hiring Hulk Hogan.
Will bring a update on Nash Soon!!!
