Taking a page from one of my favorite blogs, Horror-Movie-A-Day (http://horror-movie-a-day.blogspot.com/) I'll review or write some quick comments on a horror movie I've watched recently.  Today's movie:  THE MIST

Great, great stuff.   Minor touches really made this movie work for me.  Sipping some beers after experiencing a hostile attack.  Marcia Gay Harden gnawing the scenery.  Thomas "I just want my kids back" Jane showing he makes a great leading man.  And...its creepy!  Genuine moments of uneasiness are hard to find, especially amongst horror fans who are so desensatized!

My only complaint is the CGI, specifically the tenticles in the Backroom scene.  I won't spell everything out about the scene for those who haven't seen it but I cringed at the sight of these tenticles.  Having been engrossed in the movie this far, as soon as those suckers showed up I was thinking about I Am Legend (2007) vampires.  And no I haven't seen that but I have spyed some footage of those CGI vampires in action and yuck.  I love practical effects but I am not anti-CGI so long as it looks even slightly organic.  But for such a high profile director I was just embarrased to see what this movie had to work with. Budget or time constraints?  I did not listen to the commentary, perhaps they go into more detail there but I can't imagine anyone was happy with how these effects came out.  And don't get me wrong it is a good scene!  Maybe it looks better in the black and white version on the DVD?
