How do you do so? I just look over notes, homework related to that subject, possibly in the textbook.

There is a website called VARK where you can take a test to find out what the best way is for you to learn.  VARK stands for Visual, Auditory, Reading/writing and Kinaesthetic (doing or action).  It can be helpful to a lot of students in organizing their studies.

Past papers and discussing the subject with friends or fellow classmates tends to help.

I think studying in a group can really help, that way you can help other people and they can help you, because everyone is better at a certain topic or whatever. I usually write alot of notes, and highlight things that are the most important, and look back at them everytime I get a chance. The best way is to just pay attention in class and be sure to get help if you don't understand something.
