CLEVELAND, OH - April 17th, 2009 - Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James was named today as the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Month presented by KIA for games played in the month of April.

In seven games during the month, James averaged 29.9 points on .531 shooting, 6.0 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game. James has now won the award for the 11th time in his career: for the fourth time this season (November, January, March); two times during 2007-08, once in 2006-07, twice in 2005-06 and twice during the 2004-05 campaign. He became the second player in NBA history (Kevin Garnett) to win the award four times in one season.

During April, James ranked first in free throws made (57), third in points (29.9), tied for third in field goals made (68), fourth in free throws attempted (65), tied for fifth in field goals attempted (128), sixth in three-pointers attempted (39), seventh in assists (6.6), tied for eighth in three-pointers made (39) and ninth in field goal percentage (53.1) among Eastern Conference players.

James finished with 38 points on 14-21 (.667) shooting, including 18 points on 6-9 (.667) shooting to in the first quarter, and added seven rebounds and six assists in a 101-81 victory over the Spurs at Quicken Loans Arena on April 5th. He posted his 29th double-double on the season with 27 points and 10 assists at Philadelphia on April 10th.

In the Cavs 107-76 victory over the Boston Celtics on April 12th, he scored 29 points on 9-14 (.643) shooting, including 5-8 (.625) from three-point range, to go along with four rebounds and seven assists. The victory was the largest margin of victory in franchise history over the Celtics (+31 points).

James posted 37 points, grabbed five rebounds and five assists at Indiana on April 13th, helping the Cavs clinch home court advantage through the NBA Playoffs.

The Cavaliers finished with the NBA’s best overall record (66-16) and home record (39-2) on the season. The Cavs became the 12th team in NBA history to win 66 or more games in a season and the sixth team to have 39 or more wins at home (the first since the 1996-97 Bulls).

The Dallas Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki was named the Western Conference Player of the Month. Other nominees for Eastern Conference Player of the Month were Boston’s Paul Pierce, Miami’s Dwyane Wade and Orlando’s Dwight Howard.
