Dude, he had a great feud with all of ROH, when he got signed on by WWE. He didn't mention his straight-edge-ism in that feud at all, rather he was the obnoxious heel who thought ROH was made all because of his popularity, and all the wrestlers and the whole federation was beneath him.
It's one of his career defining feuds. He was just awesome during that period, and a plus side to his feud was that he was the ROH champion at the time.

Thats because the whole WWE vs ROH angle was pretty much handed to him on a silver platter.  Inter-promotional stuff is still cheap heat and its still pretty easy to get.  Its Heel Tactics 101.

A "great" heel needs more than cheap heat.

Didn't you notice how he couldn't cut an awesome promo against the Undertaker in their feud?   Their feud fell flat because of it. Especially coming as it did right after his feud with Jeff, people were expecting so much more from Punk and he was unable to deliver. 

Honestly Lets say Punk was in a program right now with Jericho.....do you really think his promo's would be as "epic" as they were against Jeff?  Or would Jericho "own" him on the mic?

Not saying he is bad, just that he could use some versatility.   The straight edge thing will eventually run stale unless he can add something to it. 

Anything becomes stale no matter how great it is if its overused after all......Imagine Punk five years from now.  Will he still be doing the same kinda of promo's?
