Fresh Start for the Age of Orton

Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 04:57 PM EST [General]

Well, by now, it should be no surprise to WWE fans that Randy Orton is no longer the WWE Champion.  Yes, as many of you know, I am thoroughly upset, and still in mourning, by this loss, and I can only hope that a new beginning is in store for the Legend Killer.  I enjoyed watching Randy at the peak of his career on Raw, but much like in real life, once you've reached the top, the only way to go is back down.  In my eyes, Randy is taking baby steps back to the bottom, and once he reaches an unusual low, he will gracefully trek to that high place once again.

After invoking his rematch clause on Raw last night (4/28/08), we the fans are left at a cliffhanger of the unknown: WHO WON? It's probably safe to assume that Triple H succeed the arrogant Orton, but that cannot be said with utmost certainty.  Randy, for the most part, outperformed the Game for a solid portion of the match, but the Champ would not give up, even after suffering an RKO among other manuevers.  Randy is definitely a force to be reckoned with, and will endure whatever it takes to retain the gold.

Triple H anticipated a celebratory opening to Raw last night (4/28/08) until his parade was rained on by the angry and vengeful Randy Orton.  Yes, Randy was decked in the head with a microphone by Triple H, but all that did was just anger him further.  Randy fans alike should have been impacted by his statement The Age of Orton is not over...it's just beginning in response to Triple H's disrespectful denouncement of the Age.  As long as Randy stays on top of his game and takes out the wrestling roster consecutively, the Age of Orton will not end.  Randy doesn't seem materialistic gold around his waist to prove his natural abilities in the ring.  His character and talents will speak for themselves because there are several worthy contenders that Randy could compete with just to prove himself as excellent.

Realistically speaking, Randy is not going to achieve championship status immediately; yes, he can attempt, but other wrestlers also yearn to be named number one contenders.  In all fairness, if Randy outperforms and beats opponents worthy of contention, then by all means paint him into the title picture.  I could watch Randy for all 5 weekly hours of scheduled WWE programs and not get tired of him, but I'm sure the general WWE fan population would beg to differ with me; it may get boring to others.  Plus, I wouldn't want Randy to strain his beautiful self after enduring some tenuous, continuous physical strains from his colleagues.  Anyway, the point I am trying to make is how many times do the majority of WWE fans want to see Orton/H for the WWE Championship?  (Me=every title match until Randy wins!!!)

I hope that it is clear to all WWE fans that the Age of Orton is not even close to being over...it is merely the beginning, the fresh start of something wonderful.  The rage and fury pent up inside of the soul of the Legend Killer will be translated into physical power presented to each of his opponents.  Randy is young and a savvy performer; he is essentially the future of this business...he is just getting started!  Give him the Big Show or Batista or HBKor JBL or Cena or HHH...whomever, because it doens't matter.  Randy is ready, willing, and able to dominate the WWE one Superstar at a time.  Many despise him because of his arrogance, other adore him for his talent, but I feel that in the near future, fans alike will all learn to respect him for his passion.  The Age of Orton is here to stay whether you like it or not!

    0/4 @ Backlash

Monday, April 28, 2008, 06:20 PM EST [General]

All of my real-life (and, hopefully Fan Nation) friends know that I am a HUGE fan of the Legend Killer, Randy Orton, and few and far between have been as passionate as I have been to be living in the Age of Orton.  It's no secret that I adore Randy for other reasons outside of the ring...he is by far the sexiest man alive, with a perfect body structure, flawless facial boundaries, heart-melting vocal skills, and, of course, impressive fighting techniques!  I have a school-girl crush on Randy, among other Superstars of the WWE.  It is safe to say that I watch wrestling more for the physical appearance of the hottest men of TV, rather than the actual matches.  I like the soap opera aspect of sports-entertaiment more than the physical destruction of men!  There are several other wrestlers whom I admire (not as much as Randy) for their appearance and talent as well, and after learning a little about me, many of you can simply guess just who they are, for they are the typical heartthrobs of the brand.  Aside from Randy, I also strongly like Edge, MVP, and Batista, all defeated at Backlash.  Don't get me wrong, I love Triple H and Shawn Michaels as well, but these guys are just tastier to me!  Hence, if I would to have placed a bet on the matches at Backlash with respect to my favorite performers, I would have gone 0 for 4...a loser!  It's a good thing I kept my dollars in my wallet, and now I can spend them on other luxuries, like some colorful LaPerla's or even a new Fendi!  Who can say?!

I am now going to vent on Fan Nation about my anxieties stemming from a disappointing evening at 2008 Backlash...Here we go...World, Hold On...

The Basement: WrestleMania 24: It took a split second for Randy to sneak behind Triple H, deliver a brutal kick to the back of his head, pin John Cena, and retain the WWE Championship.  I can't begin to describe the rush I experienced at this moment.  I was screaming and crying and jumping and hugging my fellow Randy fan friend...to be honest, I also wet my pants a bit from holding in my urge throughout the course of WrestleMania (not to mention, the contributing bunch of Mich Ultras in my system).  I was on Cloud 9; I felt like I had just won the lottery. In my imagination, I was there alongside Randy, celebrating with him, as proud of him as I could ever be! C'mon...he was the winner at WRESTLEMANIA, baby!!!  (I know I'm corny sometimes).  It was a funny sight, and to my knowledge, the Age of Orton was just beginning, with a future run unsurpassed...at least that's what I hoped for!

Challenges were made; Randy retailiated, putting his money where his mouth is, and defended his championship with all of his honor and integrity.  I was proud to call him Champion, and slowly but surely, the fans realized that they were in for the dinner of a lifetime, with Randy at the head of the table.  Orton significantly progressed while standing as WWE Champ, and whether you loved him or hated him, he was still on your mind as a WWE fan.  I couldn't have been happier for Randy; his reign made me continuously excited to tune into RAW regularly (even though I did in the past...Randy as Champ was just an added perk).

Let's cut to the chase: Backlash '08: Fatal Four Way...1. JBL, 2. Cena, 3. Randy...Winner, Triple H.  I can't deny that Triple H is a phenomenal athlete and a hell of a champion, but as a dedicated Randy fan, my hopes were shattered in an instant.  Poor Randy!  From this moment on, my phone began receiving an influx of calls, mostly friends mocking Randy's loss to make me feel bad.  I will admit, I cried when the news came in (I didn't purchase Backlash, and now I definitely will not)...Not Randy!!!  It's bad enough that most of my friends despise the character in Randy, and so his loss was rubbed in my face as to irritate me and/or even break my heart.  I don't stalk Randy in hopes of an unrealistic romance, but I am a loyal fan of the Superstar, and I felt his pain at that moment.  All I can hope for now is a repeat of the Age of Orton, and I am confident that it will progress again in the near future.  I'm sure of it!!! (0/1)

I'm going to move away from my favorite performer, and talk about another one of my men: Edge.  I will say that as a young child, the Undertaker scared me...I never liked to watch him perform, and as I grew older, I still could not gain appreciation for Taker.  His entrance takes too long and is super boring...I don't buy into his character.  He has no depth to his persona, and I would prefer to see Chavo a champ over Taker.  I knew Edge had no chance at WM, but I figured that with help from La Familia Edge would be victorious as Backlash.  I was wrong!!!  I hope that someone comes along as a worthy opponent for the Undertaker, and takes the title from him...PLEASE!!!  Who knows?, maybe MVP's loss paves the way for bigger and better (and main eventer!!) opportunities in his path!  (0/2)

I understand that true wrestling fans, especially those of the old-school and early years of WWE, are not at all into Batista for several reasons.  As I have stated earlier, I love sexy, gorgeous men, and low-and-behold, Batista fits into this criteria!!!  He is larger than life and beautiful for a man pushing 40, with lovely physical attributes and a cute somewhat-Southern accent.  In my eyes, Dave is the best dressed Superstar in all of the WWE...he just has it!  The little girl in me adores and respects HBK to the fullest, but as more of a new-school follower of the WWE, I was upset to see Dave fall at the hands of HBK.  Hopefully, Dave will get to redeem himself with a rematch, and show HBK just how powerful he is. (0/3)

Last, but certainly not least, the downfall of MVP at Backlash...bummer.  I absolutely can't stand Matt Hardy (nor can I stand Jeff), and to see the arrogant and sexy MVP lose to that yucko of a man really irked me...This match was the prelude to a horrible evening, with Randy's loss as the icing on the cake.  I am trying to look at the bright side of this loss: I don't feel that Matt Hardy is going to shatter the reign of MVP, and I also believe that some positive push for MVP is going to take place very soon.  His talent and character may be the future of this business, amongst many other Superstars.  He has a pizazz to him that many others cannot come close to obtaining.  Matt Hardy simply annoys me, and I can't help but think that he is living in the shadow of Jeff (even though Jeff is suspended at the moment, but I am talking about Jeff at his prime).  (0/4)

With all that I have said, remember that this is just Jenna (me) venting about why I am so upset on the day after Backlash.  All of my faves took a loss, I shed a couple of tears for Randy, but at the end of the day, I am glad that I didn't purchase the event.  Win or lose, I am still behind Randy and my other obsessions, and I will not lose hope that in the near future, Randy will shine once again.  As for MVP, I hope for his wall climb to move quickly into the main event position...Dave is just hot, and I am not too disappointed about his HBK loss...and finally, Edge...it's alright...keep on moving, baby!  As long as Cena didn't win, I'm sorta contented!  Congrats, Triple H! That's all for now from Jenna!!!

    The Transition to Hollywood

Friday, April 4, 2008, 05:29 PM EST [General]

The WWE is a brand linked to the sports-entertainment market, suggesting that it is partially scripted involoving actor-athletes so to speak.  These performers are multi-talented in their art, having to endure a sustantial amount of pain while at the same time, having to inflict even more pain on an opponent.  WWE Superstars are often forced to continue on with a match with broken limbs or serious bloodful injuries.  For example, Mick Foley, the modern-day king of hardcore, highly tolerant for pain, has spit out teeth like chicklets during matches.  He has suffered concussions, a broken jaw, broken nose, broken cheekbone, dislocated shoulder, many stitches, an ear ripped off his head and broken ribs while performing for a crowd, and yet still managed to stay as his character, whether it be Mankind, Cactus Jack, or Dude Love.  Yet, outside of the ropes, Mick Foley is an acclaimed author for both children and adults, writing stories like Halloween Hijinx and Christmas Chaos for kids and Tietam Brown and Scooter for the older crowd.

Wrestlers have found a way to use their skills of acting and improvising in other areas of entertainment.  The transition to Hollywood may come few and far between, however when it hits, another product is made out of the wrestler.  He (or she) is not only a destructive force in a ring, but also a talented role model that other entertainers (and/or fans) aspire to be like.  For example, John Cena took his role very seriously, starring in The Marine.  He endured a USMC boot camp training prior to filming, and claims to have acrued an even greater respect for the marines of today.  With his wrestling strength and his acquired marine training, John Cena was able to accurately embody the totality of a marine.  He even uses what he has learned as a marine in the ring as part of his character.  The marines have proven to be role models to Cena, and I'm sure that WWE fans of his will praise him for what he has brought to the screen and ring alike.

Wrestling can also prove to be a stepping stone for greater feats on the market.  Duane "The Rock" Johnson gained much of his early success between the ropes of a wrestling ring.  "If you smellllllllllllllllllllllllll, what The Rock...is cookin" and "Finally, The Rock...has come back to...(enter city)" are some of the statements he is famous for saying.  His renown "eyebrow" simply adds to his talents as an actor.  After taking part in some of the most memorable matches (vs. Hogan/vs. Austin, etc.) and feuds (Austin, McMahon, etc) in WWE history, he decided to use his fame and tackle movies.  The Rock juggled wrestling with acting in his first roles, which include television appearances in That 70s Show and The Net, and his first movie role as the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns.  After a string a successful movie roles, it seems that The Rock realized that money can be made in entertainment without destructing the body.  Slowly, the Rock phased out the "wrestler" title from his reportoire, and replaced it with "full time" actor.  He appeared at the Oscars, and began starring in leading roles for major movie companies, including Disney's The Game Plan  and Sony Pictures Gridiron Gang  to name a few.  The Rock no longer wrestles, and some may say that he chooses not to so that he can uphold his image as a non-violent moviestar.  Whichever way you look at it, The Rock got his push from the WWE, as it posed as a stepping stone for future endeavors.

The women of the WWE are glorified sex symbols who occasionally wrestler or perform in watergun, pillowfight, or bra and panties matches.  Their ticket to Hollywood comes from the man who created sexy in and of its own...Hugh Hefner.  Each year, one diva is chosen to be the Playboy Covergirl for the magazine just before WrestleMania, and the honors have been bestowed upon Torrie Wilson, Sable, Chyna, Candice, Ashley, Christy Hemme, and most recently Maria.  The divas also have a WWE line of videos establishing just how sexy they really are.  Their appeal has even caught the eyes of Timbaland, and in his video "Throw in On Me," Ashley, Torrie, Maryse, Brooke, Layla and Kelly Kelly all appeared as the sexy women video vixens.  Candice takes part every year in the "Go Daddy" commercial that airs during the SuperBowl.  Slowly but surely, these divas are going Hollywood, and have the WWE to thank for it.

Nowadays, you can see Stone Cold Steve Austin and Kane in the privacy of your own homes on DVD (The Condemned and See No evil, respectively).  If you want to see Batista, turn on Smallville or Family Feud (you can also see some Divas and other WWE Superstars here as well).  We are not only limited to watching the Superstars we love on RAW, SmackDown, and ECW.  The Hollywood fever is taking over, and it may not be long until we can go to a restaurant that Vince McMahon owns (WWE TimeSquare, no longer in existence).  Some Superstars may even develop their own clothing lines.  John Cena and Lilian Garcia both have hit records.

As an extreme fan of Randy Orton, I hope that he soon takes on a movie role, preferably in a romantic comedy (I must be dreaming).  I heard the Mr. Kennedy is filming a new movie called Behind Enemy Lines 3 which will go straight to DVD.  WWE even has its own production company so that their marketed wrestlers can gain movie-stardom without really leaving the backyard.  So, with books and movies, TV shows and magazine spreads, the Superstars of the WWE are well-rounded and multi-talented, whether they are taking a beating in the ring, or making love on the screen.  As a female fan of the WWE, I like to track the transition to Hollywood, and can't wait to see what's to come.

    Bittersweet Destiny

Wednesday, April 2, 2008, 07:16 PM EST [General]

Randy Orton is the youngest superstar to obtain championship gold in the WWE.  At age 24, Orton defeated Chris Benoit at SummerSlam 2004, by dodging a crossface and turning it into an RKO for the win.  As a superfan of Orton, his moment of triumph is an unforgettable one...

Shortly thereafter, his Evolution teammates, lead by The Game Triple H, became overcome with jealousy, and dismembered him from Evolution.  Triple H thought that he should be on top of the food chain, and later takes the title away from Randy.  I was very upset at this moment, as I will later share some more Evolution moments.  Randy was brutally attacked by his backstabbing friends, and no one came to his aid.

Randy had nothing to worry about because in time, he would get his revenge on Triple H, and a chance to regain what was rightfully his. Yes, he loses the title to Triple H at Unforgiven in 2004, after holding the World Championship for less than one month.  I was sad, but I had faith in my man because he is young, fresh, and has a lot more life left in him with the WWE.  He is in fact the future of the WWE...it is his destiny!!!

I told you so...At No Mercy 2007, Randy defeats Triple H in a last man standing match...he gave Triple H the beating of his lifetime, a bruising which he deserved.  I was overjoyed at this moment:

So then you wonder, why wouldn't Randy rejoin Evolution later on in his career?  Randy would not let by-gones be by-gones, and when approached by Triple H, Batista, and Ric Flair, he reminds them of what they did to him in the past.  I honestly was upset that he did not rejoin the group because they were the sexiest attraction on primetime television.  On the other hand, Randy was able to keep his pride, and deprive the group of their missing link.

The Sexiest Tag Team: Rated RKO.  Energy, Extraordinary, Ego!  I couldn't have been more excited to see two of my favorite wrestlers team up to end the reign of stupidty set forth by DX.  Yeah, it was funny back in the day, but its revivement was pretty stale.

I was so hyped when they actually won the tag team championship against Flair and Piper on Raw in 2006.  Randy was even able to get some revenge on the Nature Boy for turning his back on him when they were in Evolution together.  I love when Randy gets a push in the WWE...he wears his confidence well, speaks with arrogance, and knows that he is simply the best...

To make a long story short, at this past WM24, Randy defeated both Triple H and John Cena in a triple threat match to retain the WWE title.  The odds were stacked against him, and at the same time, many did not want him to win...he sure proved everyone wrong.  As I watched this match, I hid under my blanket everytime Randy appeared to be at a loss, but when he stole the victory, I screamed so loud that my neighbors thought I was in some sort of trouble.  It was such a grand moment, both for myself and the man, Randy Orton.  Now, we are living in The Age of Orton, an era that many sit on the fence with.  All are jealous of not only the prize he possesses, but also his good looks and his God-given talent.  Many will challenge him, but I believe that he is going to reign on this kingdom for a substantial amount of time (or at least I want to believe that in my heart)

    World's Hottest Men

Wednesday, April 2, 2008, 06:01 PM EST [General]

To state the obvious, most wrestling fans tend to be men because of the physically gruiling level of entertainment it delivers.  I like to call it a soap opera for the male sex because nowadays, wrestling, especially WWE wrestling, is not all about fighting and bleeding.  When you turn on a RAW episode, you can count on seeing someone like Vince McMahon addressing the audience about an escapade in his life (according to the storyline), and someone like Triple H will come out and challenge his words, and the plot thickens.  There may be some other interference, possible brawling, etc...however the outcome, it unfolds into one intricate story over a specific period of time, or until some other plot develops.

I on the otherhand have alterior motives as a fan of the WWE.  Yes, I like to watch sweaty, muscular men parade around the ring attacking each other as though their lives depended on it, however, this is not why I particularly love the action so much.  As a beautiful young, bachelorette woman, I LOVE gazing at the beauty each of these men possess.  In other words, I want to find a man that looks like...(ie Randy Orton, Edge...).  It's like living a fantasy for me; I like to watch these half-naked men pulverize each other and talk smack to each other.  To me, this is what a real man is: a fearless, gorgeous wrestler.

As a young girl, I was always into the fad cliques of the era: New Kids on the Block, *NSYNC, Eminem, etc.  Of course, I would have a crush on such characters, including Justin Timberlake, Jordan Knight, Eminem himself, and as an obsessive teenie bopper, I would always imagine what life would be like to date the man I was "in love" with.  I remember when Justin Timberlake (from *NSYNC) showed up arm-in-arm with Britney Spears at the 1999 VMA's-their first public appearance as a couple.  I was devasted, and from that day on, in the spirit of teenie bopperism, I despised the pop princess, and never purchased a single item of hers ever again...WOW! (like I ever had a chance with JT, lol).

It wasn't until my last year of high school that I became reunited as a fan of the WWE.  I used to watch the events and PPVs just because I had nothing else to watch on those given days, but when I actually sat down and observed what was going on, I realized that it was quite interesting...and, being a hormonal, experimental 17 year old girl, I recognized how sexy the men are.  They came to the ring with their shirts off and slight coverings of their lower bodies...what's not to love?  The men are also tan, with a bit of a broken sweat before they fight, which evolves into a full sweat once the match goes on.  I love when the wrestlers talk before their matchup, and get cut off by their opponent.  For argument sake, the reason why I love wrestling so much is because of the beautiful athletes it encompasses.  I LOVE SEXY MEN.

I have decided to share with you my top ten nods for the sexiest wrestlers in the WWE.  I hope you can tell me what you think...after all, these bodies can add to female fan population!!!  They are in fact, the total package, the world's hottest, most talented, enduring men...

I'm sure that many of you will disagree with my choices for the most gorgoeus men.  I only mentioned the hottest men of today, therefore discounting The Rock, Stone Cold, etc. There men are the main reasons why I enjoy wrestling as much as I do, and what they can do in the ring simply amazes me.  As a caring woman, I cringe at the very sight of damage and pain inflicted on these guys, and at times, I feel like I want to help them get better...I don't know!  Anyway, I'm going to keep watching wrestling, and keep hoping for more goregous men leaking into my television set.  I also hope that one day, I can find myself my own "perfect wrestling man."  Yahtzee...
