Opening matches are underestimated. It's a really great position to be in. Strictly speaking on behalf of myself, of course, I find the first match of the night to be the hook: The match that grabs the crowd and reels them in for an exciting night. To be positioned in the top spot is a wonderful opportunity to get the crowd ready for whatever is about to play out. For me, it's like popping open a can of soda that has already been shaken. The crowd is amped. So, does one effervesce or fizzle out? Paul Burchill and The Hurricane hardly fizzled or flattened in their opening match on ECW Tuesday night. Burchill is highly intense and dishes out high voltage shots that can be felt in neighboring counties. Katie Lea jumped onto the apron in an attempt to assist her brother but it backfired. The Hurricane took advantage of the mayhem and pinned the Ripper. Will we ever get to know the true identity of The Hurricane? It's a mystery that needs a good sleuth. Are you game?
Shelton Benjamin & Sheamus barely got along long enough to defeat the team of Yoshi Tatsu and Goldust. The Gold Standard grabbed the win (didn't say "stole") and Sheamus was none too happy about it. In fact, The Celtic Warrior attacked Benjamin because he felt he should've been the one to get the victory. Shelton is becoming more and more impetuous and surprising and you know what? I LOVE it!
Someone has been eating his WOO WOO Wheaties! There seems to be a relentless frustration building up in Zack Ryder. He's a jackal in the ring with a ruthless aggression that is the complete opposite from his personality out of the ring. If he can keep the two traits separate he'll WOO is way to the top.
I marvel at the fact that Vladimir Kozlov can become a human battering ram. If the ring posts could talk I bet they'd be screaming when Kozlov enters the ring. Ezekiel Jackson has a passion for working the lower back and kidney areas and brings business to hospitals all across the globe. William "Bill" Regal takes delight and solace in his dignitaries' medieval manner to brutalize opponents. All in all, I'd say it's a great trio of terror. However, the match did get chaotic and unfortunately, it was Christian and Tommy Dreamer who became the punished.
Will we be privy to popular uprising at Breaking Point and be forced to dine at the Regal Roundtable Banquet? Or, will Christian gather the troops to storm the castle and seize control once more? Any way you slice it, I'm totally going to be a witness to this revolutionary event!
Now, where can I buy a pipe and a note pad for my sleuth duties?
Flawless
