Kane, Tommy Dreamer, and other thoughts

Tuesday, August 25, 2009, 09:25 PM EST [General]

Hello everyone out there kind enough to read my ramblings on wrestling.  I was just wondering why is it that the WWE always seems to put untalented 'powerhouse' wrestlers over Kane almost everytime I turn around.  When Goldberg came to the WWE he completely destroyed Kane in a match that just a setup for the return of the Undertaker.  When Viscera came to ECW as Big Daddy V with his then chubby chaser Matt Stryker, Kane got demolished there too.  And when Kane first went head to head with the Great Khali (when Kahli was evil and Kane was the favorite) Kane got his ass kicked.  Now this past Summerslam Kane got the victory over Khali but only by playing the role of the coward and stealing the win.  I have been a Kane fan since I saw him rip apart the cell door in the first ever Hell in a Cell match to get at the Undertaker.  He has since had great rivalries with some of the best the WWE has to offer, but he seems to constantly get stuck with the role of carrying the lumbering gaints of the business.  It's as if Vince approaches him and says 'We have this guy who is an awesome sight to behold!  He's Big!  He's a monster!  We need you to help make him appear unstoppable!!'  Kane is at the point of asking if this new guy is in anyway at all talented, but Vince stops him by saying 'Now true he may not be able to move around the ring like you, or have any kind of impressive moves, or the ability to put on anything resembling to a good match... but he's Huge!!'  Kane then sighs and goes out to do the job.

On another note I am curious to see what will become of Tommy Dreamer now that William Regal is the top heel and will continue to fued with Christian for the ECW title.  I have been a longtime fan of Dreamer and remember when my friend Bryant first showed me his tapings of the original ECW and being immediately hooked.  I have always loved Tommy's ability to put on great matches.  His fued with Raven was a thing of beauty, which was later ripped off by WCW when they had Raven fued with Diamond Dallas Page.  His loyalty to his fans is absolute, his skill in the ring is amazing, and if I have to listen to another Tommy is fat themed joke from Isiaha (is this the correct spelling?) Washington I just might throw the remote through the tv.  There is a group here that is seeking to get a Tommy Dreamer DVD made, and I am all for it.  I think that it is about time that the WWE pays homage to the Innovator of Violence and thanks him for all that he has done for this business.  If there is anyone out there reading this  that is undure as to how much of a contribution Dreamer has made over his career, remember the whole 'attitude' era in the WWE?  The era in which Stone Cold Steve Austin, Degeneration X, and the Nation of Domination, just to name a few put wrestling back into the mainstream?  It was ripped off of the original ECW, where Tommy Dreamer was helping to set a new standard for professional wrestling.

While I'm here I have to ask, why do we have to watch Orton vs. Cena again?  For the past five years PPV main events have mostly been made up of Orton, Cena, and HHH; in any combination.  I am tired of seeing Orton fight Cena, I am tired of Cena, I am loathe to watch Cena and Orton fight in a submission match for the title.  A submission match?  Featuring the two main event stars with the least amount of submission skills?  To have a submission match be good you need wrestlers that have a knowledge of all the different types of holds and counters, not one guy that likes to kick and another that likes to throw.  Their match at Breaking Point is going to be an abomination to wrestling, the only thing that can save it is to have Randy Orton bring back the Crippler Crossface as a go home and give promos like 'I don't care if you die from this Cena!'

If any of you fans out there believe that Orton wouldn't sink that low, just remember that he once told Rey Mysterio that Eddie Guererro was burning in hell.  I'm just saying.

CM Punk vs Jeff Hardy and other musings

Saturday, July 4, 2009, 09:38 PM EST [General]

Well this is my first posting here so why don't I just get right into it.  I personally am a fan of CM Punk, I like his wrestling style, look, and mic work.  I think that the WWE did a good job building him up as a no-nonsense bad-ass that lets his accomplishments in the ring tell his story.  His rivalries with John Morrison and Chavo Gurerro have showcased amazing matches.  And personally I could have had him and Regal have a feud over the Intercontinental Title for most of the year.  I have always been mad a Vince for killing CM Punk's heat in the middle of almost every push he gets.  I think that there is a lot of irrational hatred towards him because he is a favorite of 'smartmark' fans and not the major fanbase, but that's just my opinion I could be wrong.

I am also a Jeff Hardy fan.  I have been since I first saw him and Matt compete on Sunday Night Heat against Kai En Tai (I hope I spelled their name right) and Jeff did a somersault plancha over the top rope to the outside, miss his opponent and skid on the concrete, then pull himself back up to the ring apron to win the match.  I knew then and there that he was going to someone to watch for years to come.  I loved the rivalry between the Hardy Boys and Edge and Christian and the Dudleys, those matches were incredible to watch.  I thought that his first run at the World Title against the Undertaker was great.  Unfortunately it came at a time when he was becoming 'distracted' and he soon was gone from the WWE.  I was glad to see him back and I was pissed off as all hell when he got suspended and missed his chance to win the Money in the Bank match at Wrestlemania 24.  But he is back now and as long as he resigns his contract he will be around for awhile to come.  Yay!

When Punk cashed in his title shot and beat Jeff at Extreme Rules I was both angry as a Jeff fan but happy as a Punk fan.  These two are incredible wrestlers and I eagerly look forward to seeing their rivalry evolve.  I am pretty sure that Punk is going to go full heel for this and think that it would be great.  I can only imagine the number of highlight reel worthy spots these guys will give.  Their match at the Bash was awesome.  I sense good things to come.

On a completely different note was I the only one laughing his ass off at the fact that the Miz was given the chance to completely dominate Cena for most of their match last monday?  Either Vince and Stephanie have a lot of faith in the Miz or John Cena is doing penance.  Also glad to see Kane is back though am not happy it is against The Great Khali, no problem with the guy but he is not that good of a wrestler and I enjoy seeing Kane put on good matches with competent athletes.

Well that's all for now, will post again later.  Feel free to comment.  Bye
