I'll agree and disagree on a couple of things.

The original ECW wasn't a failure. If anything, it revolutionized and improved the product tremendously. It made people watch wrestling again. If it weren't for ECW, many of the matches and wrestlers that WWE and WCW hired would never have been heard of to begin with. It brought us wrestlers that no one else would even hire and to some extent revived the careers of many the industry turned its back on. So, in that sense, ECW was NOT a failure.

I hate to say this, but some of the fault lies with Paul Heyman. He ran the company basically by himself. He trusted no one else to do it and he refused to accept any help. If it weren't for the fact that Tommy Dreamer was dipping into his own pockets to keep things going, many of the wrestlers wouldn't have been paid.

Let's face it, Eric Bischoff (with Ted Turner's money) and Vince McMahon raided his talent pool with help from within (Tod Gordon), and unfortunately, in WCW's case, misused the talent they purchased. Remember the gimmick they stuck Mike Awesome with? That was WCW's "thank you" for jumping ship while he was still under contract with ECW.

Is the current version of ECW good at introducing new talent? Sure. Of course, most fans had heard of CM Punk before he even entered WWE. Is the ECW/Smackdown talent exchange a stupid idea? I think so, even though it's helping some of the ECW wrestlers who would never otherwise get a chance to shine in the spotlight.

But between you, me, and the people from WWE.com who are probably reading this, the new ECW isn't worth it. The people who are writing and producing the show wouldn't know hardcore or extreme if it bit them in the butt.

What bothers me is that Vince didn't like Joey's style of announcing, even though he was doing what he was hired to do, which is call the matches. It stinks that everyone is stuck with a hack who, to quote Gorilla Monsoon, wouldn't know a wristlock from a wristwatch. The smart thing to do would be to either bring Joey back, or get someone who will be compatable with Tazz.
