So for the first time in two years, there is a new king in the WWE and his name is William Regal. I'm sure a lot of people are pissed that CM Punk isn't the KOTR winner (I'm kinda ticked from a fan fic writting perspective) but it's something that Regal does deserve.
If you look at a lot of he early KOTR winners had impressive resumes before winning the crown. Don Muraco was an IC Champ, Harley Race was a multi-time NWA Champ, Randy Savage held both the IC and WWE Titles before he was crowned, Tito Santana held both Tag Team Gold and IC gold, Bret Hart was an IC, Tag and WWE Champ before he won his two TWO KOTR crowns. And of course Booker T was a 5 Time WCW Champ, IC Champ, Tag Champ, US Champ....etc, etc, etc before he won the crown in 2006
It wasn't until Owen Hart winning in 1994 that it became a 'launching pad' for the next big thing. And while Regal is not the next big thing, he certainly has the legacy deserving of it just by his WWE Career alone which includes the following
4 Time European Champion 5 Time Hardcore Champion 1 Time Intercontinental Champion 4 Time Tag Team Champion
And since Regal may not ever win a World Title, winning of King of the Ring is the closest thing possible. So congrats Regal... you deserve it.
Of course that's just my opinion... I could be wrong.
Thought I do my Backlash predictions... and I do find it weird that this is the second Backlash in a row with a Fatal Four Way match for the WWE Title and Undertaker in the World Title match against the guy he beat at Mania.
World Heavyweight Championship: Undertaker vs. Edge My pick: Undertaker Why: Chances are Edge will be moved down the ladder when his relationship with Vickie Guerrero implodes
WWE Championship: John Cena, JBL, Randy Orton and Triple H in a Fatal Four Way Match My pick: Randy Orton Why: John Cena is making 12 Rounds, JBL is a bit rusty still, and Triple H is always one bad step away from another torn quad.
Big Show vs. The Great Khali My pick: Big Show Why: Because Khali is looking pretty tired and he could use some time off.
United States Champion MVP vs. Matt Hardy My Pick: Matt Hardy Why: Because it's about damn time MVP lost the title AND because I don't want MVP to break Lex Luger's record for longest US Title Reign
ECW Champion Kane vs. Chavo Guerrero My Pick: Kane Why: He's getting that must deserved long title run... and Chavo is pratically getting pushed because no one likes him
Shawn Michaels vs. Batista with guest referee Chris Jericho My Pick: HBK Why: Batista sucks.... and needs to pay the Ultimate Warrior royalities for stealing his gimmick.
Of course, this is my opinion... I could be wrong.
Have you noticed lately that guys that 'should retire' are the ones who are showing to have more fire than those 10-15 years younger? Kevin Nash (in TNA) and Tommy Dreamer (on ECW) are two that just stick out in my mind that fit mold. Let's face it, neither were anything special in the ring, both have had more injuries between them than the entire starting line-up for the New York Yankees, and yet both are still chugging along, doing what they have always done.
Now granted, Nash and Dreamer are two completely different people, but both have stolen the show lately. Nash's performance at TNA's LockDown was much more eyecatching than that god-awful MMA crap fest that was Joe-Angle, and Dreamer carried MVP to a solid match on SmackDown this pass week.
If anything, they are are showing they still got a lot to offer
Of course, that's just my opinion I could be wrong
Since people are still complaining about Mike Adamle to the point they are spending hours upon hours to make YouTube Videos, I want to point out that the WWE has brought in various other announcers to grow into their role instead of picking 'experts' like Joey Styles. Here is a brief list of those types of announcers:
Kevin Kelly Todd Grisham Michael Cole Jonathan Coachman Josh Matthews Steve Romero Marc Lloyd Jack Korpela
For the most part, these announcers have been broadcasters in other fields before joining the WWE, so get off Adamle's back.
Have you ever noticed that former Divas Chyna, Debra, Terri, Sunny and Sable have all said 'their are too many women' in the WWE Today, and yet 4 out of those 5 pratically stood at ring side for the majoritiy of their WWE Careers?
It's called bitterness, and it's an ugly thing. By today's standards, Chyna, Terri, Sunny Sable and Debra would be considered at the low end of he Diva pool, for today's Divas and even TNA's Knockouts are 10 times better than the girls of 10 years ago. Simple fact is, today's Divas has to look beautiful and for the most part take the bumps in the ring in a match. Sure Sable and Chyna both ended up having wrestling careers, but Sable had the most god awful matches and Chyna would actually be out of the WWE shortly after entering what was at the time, the developing Women's Division.
But let's face it, could you have ever seen Chyna, Debra, Terri, Sunny or Sable main eventing a RAW, SmackDown, ECW or even a TNA Impact? They were, sadly, the pure definition of 'side attraction' at their peeks
Of course, that's just my opinion.... I could be wrong.
