    Finally...

Monday, December 15, 2008, 12:56 AM EST [General]

At long last, Jeff Hardy finally captured the WWE Championship tonight at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY at Armageddon. For many months most of the WWE Universe had been waiting for this day and it has finally come. He didn't just win the title in any match either, this was one of the most unpredicatble matches in recent memory with countless false finishes and lots of action. A broken table, interference from Vladimir Kozlov, a steel chair (I don't recall this being a no DQ match though) and, a Swanton Bomb later and Jeff finally found gold. Then for 7 or 8 minutes after his win, he received a thunderous ovation from the crowd. Through all the trials and tribulations in Jeff's life over the past few years it was nice to see him finally get his chance to be the top guy. It's been a long time coming and he truly deserves it. Way to go Jeff, you finally reached the brass ring!

    Raw Recap 9/8/08

Monday, September 8, 2008, 11:30 PM EST [General]

I decided to write a blog on tonight's Raw because there were many things I'd like to comment on.

Let's start with out new World Heavyweight Champion, Chris Jericho. I must say, what a great choice, there wasn't a person in the world who thought Jericho of all people would walk out with the title but, that's exactly what he did. A lot of people didn't like how he won it including me, I felt that Punk deserved to lose his title on his own terms, instead he wasn't involved in the decision at all but, that's the way decisions go in WWE sometimes. I then realized this would be good for Punk allowing him to pull the old "I never got defeated" card out of the deck in the near future.

Noble vs. Regal - I've been one of the people who has been pushing for WWE to give Jamie Noble a bigger role. Yet again, he gets buried. Regal is great but, I'm tired of seeing Noble job NEARLY every week.

Charlie Haas as Charlie Haas Layfield - If this is what Charlie has to do to get a bigger role, more power to him. He has been more entertaining than ever these past few weeks and is getting over with the crowd well which wasn't the case before.

Mysterio & Bourne vs. Miz & Morrison - What a match! This one was unbelievable! Some teams just click and Mysterio and Bourne did just that, they were both beyond impressive and I would love to see them as a full time tag team. After the match, Kane came on screen and low and behold he had his mask! That should be interesting.

6 Man Tag - Priceless & Manu vs. Kofi & Cryme Tyme - This was a solid match which Manu won but, I'm more interested in what is going to happen with Randy, Cody & Ted. It gets more heated each time they confront each other.

That's all I wanted to talk about. The rest wasn't that noteworthy to me. This was short but, there were a few interesting things from Raw so, there you have it.

    Cancelled WWE TV Shows

Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 10:49 PM EST [General]

I was just thinking about all the WWE shows that are no longer on TV or have been replaced so, I thought I'd blog about them. We'll start with around the beginning of the 'Attitude Era'

WWF Shotgun Saturday Night & WWF Shotgun - This show was short-lived but, it was unique for it's time for a number of reasons. It was meant to be edgier than other WWF programs at the time, it was produced from various New York nightspots, it had a smaller than standard ring, and the 'WWF' TV bug in the corner of the screen was replaced with a badge with the WWF logo in the middle. The show only lasted a little over a year and was replaced by WWF Jakked. It had a 'sister' show called WWF Shotgun that was more kid friendly and aired Saturday afternoons. This too was replaced by WWF Metal. Each show had the same matches but, in different orders with different commentary teams. They lasted from January of 1997 to 1999.

WWF Jakked &  WWF Metal - In essence, they were very similar to the shows they replaced except for the fact that they were produced in the arenas rather than the New York nightspots of Shotgun. Though they weren't very significant programs, several future stars debuted on these programs such as, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Mr. Kennedy. Dean Malenko was also featured prominantly during his long Light-Heavyweight Title reign. These shows ran from September 1999 to May 2002 and were replaced by WWE Bottom Line & WWE Afterburn.

WWF Livewire -  It started out as a live call-in show similar to Excess although it was unique because it was the first to offer such interactivity. It went on to become recap show later on in its existence. It replaces WWF Mania and lasted from 1996 to 2001

WWF Excess - It was originally a call in talk show featuring various WWF Superstars. It also featured classic matches usually from viewer suggestion. It was broadcast from 2001 to 2002 and replaced by WWE Confidential and WWE Velocity.

WWE Confidential - This was one of my favourite shows although it didn't last very long. It was unlike any other WWE program as it offered behind the scenes looks at the WWE and a look inside the wrestlers' lives. It was broadcast from May 2002 until April 2004.

WWE Velocity - Dubbed a B-Show to Smackdown, Velocity featured many up and comers and wrestlers who weren't involved in storylines at the time. 1 title changed hands on Velocity which was when Nunzio defeated Paul London for the Cruiserweight Title. It became a webcast in 2005. It lasted from May 2002 to June 2006 with the re-introduction of ECW.

WWE Heat - It started out as a complementary show to Raw with mid-carders and main eventers frequenting the show. Later on it was broadcast from WWF New York where pre-taped matches would be called live from Michael Cole & Tazz. It would later return to it's original format. There have been some title changes on Heat including Mankind defeating The Rock in an empty arena match for the WWF Title during Haltime Heat. The Light Heavyweight Title also changed hands 3 times with Essa Rios defeating Gillberg, Crash Holly defeating Dean Malenko and, Jerry Lynn defeating Crash Holly. It changed to a webcast in 2005 The show lasted from August 1998 to May 2008

So, there you have it. recent WWE shows that have said goodbye. I hope you enjoyed this stroll down memory lane.
