It's Thursday August 28, 2008 and I, WWE fan, Darren is nervously awaiting the release date for my first five song EP, "The Subtle Things". The Subtle Things is a collection of songs I have written over the years about my life experience and triumphs over adversity. One day, I wish the WWE would use one of my songs as a theme song for a Pay-Per-View or something.
The EP is being produced by Cristian and Laz from the latin heavy metal
band, Ill Nino, who have been influences of mine for a long time. The
album, however, has more of a pop/rock feel to it. I have worked very hard on the songs, as well has the guys from Ill Nino, to make this the best possible sounding recording of me to date.
I just recently posted two clips on my MySpace page, MySpace.com/DarrenFisher, so if you guys have some time, please check it out and tell me what you think. Whether you love it or not, let me know and please add me as a friend if you do...from one WWE Fan to another.
With Randy Orton not on WWE television due to suffering a broken collarbone injury, yesterday during a commerical break of RAW, I started thinking about my love or lack thereof for The Legend Killer that lasted right through the Cody Rhodes segment. :)
For a long time now, I have bad mouthed Mr. RKO because I thought he was not worth his hype. Every Monday night from the hours of 9 PM and 11 PM (Eastern Time), I would consistently criticize Orton, asking myself why did Ric Flair and Triple H even waste their time with somebody like Randy Orton? However lately, I have discovered a soft spot of The Legend Killer...I think.
Don't get me wrong, when Randy Orton first debuted, he was entertaining. I remember he had an arm injury, he would have RNN (ripping off CNN) and give status reports on his injury interrupting segments/matches which I thought were really entertaining. Even when he was in Evolution in 2004, I thought he was pretty decent and I was entertained by his matches.
However, after Orton fueded with The Undertaker back in 2005-2006, I felt he was not putting anything into the WWE. Orton was getting into trouble backstage and there were a ton of accusations that he was just an arrogant jerk, getting in fights with fans etc. I know I should really not believe the things I read on the internet. Nevertheless, reading those things reaffirmed my belief that Orton was doing more harm than good in the WWE.
Randy Orton's matches started to bore me and his promos dragged on forever. I remember when he would open the RAW broadcast if some long-winded promo, taking 10-15 minutes circling around the same phrases that could take him 30 seconds to say. Don't get me wrong, Triple H can make some long-winded promos too but he's at least good at it.
When Edge and Orton formed Rated RKO, I felt Edge carried him which is truly a testament on how great Edge really can be and why he was the World Champion and has been in the World Title picture on Smackdown for so long..but that's another blog all together. Orton would take ten minutes cycling through the same material he said the previous week and then Edge would take the mic for one to two minutes in attempt to save the promo. Also, the matches Rated RKO had usually had Orton taking the fall. I thought that was the WWE's way of telling him something.
Nevertheless, Orton finally stopped holding Edge back and they went their separate ways. Orton's losing streak started eventually to cease after he discovered that kicking people in the head works and another tirade on the WWE began as RKO took out Rob Van Dam, Dusty Rhodes, and HBK. With kicking people in the head comes talking about kicking people in the head which meant more long winded promos. yay! At this point, I was so disgusted with Orton, I just wanted someone to take him out.
Therefore, I was happy he started fueding with John Cena because there was no way in hell the almighty Cena was going to lose Orton..right? WRONG...well kind of wrong. John Cena eventually gets hurt and Randy Orton is handed the title. ugh..Triple H saves this blasphemy by winning the title..for three hours. So I am stuck with Orton has champion and for the entire few months he was champion, I was pounding my head against the wall asking myself what in the BLUE hell does the WWE see in this guy?
In the main event at WWE Backlash 2008, I realized that answer. The main event on the Raw brand was a Fatal Four-Way Elimination match for the WWE Championship between champion Randy Orton, Triple H (my favorite), John Cena, and JBL. Cena and JBL were eliminated rather quickly so I remember watching it on the edge of my seat wanting Triple H to beat the holy hell out of him and win the WWE Championship the whole match. After Triple H won, I was so happy I was jumping for joy. I had tickets for RAW the next night and the chemistry between the new champ, Triple H, and the vengeful, young ex-champ, Randy Orton, was very compelling. Randy Orton seemed to have that fire again like when he first started back in Evolution. No more of the long-winded promos, no more boring matches.
Finally, Randy suffers a broken collarbone injury in a brutal match at One Night Stand and honestly, I was sad to see him hurt. Now with Randy gone, it feels like a void is left and I really have no one to dislike in wrestling..which is kind of a bad thing if you think about it. I thought to myself if Randy Orton's job is making me hate him each week, he must be doing damn good job. Therefore, I hope Randy Orton gets well soon and gets back in ring so he can go back to being The Legend Killer and I can go back to booing the heck out of him. :)
