Top Ten WWE-Superstars whose Career cut short before they reached their peak

[Housecall]
The release of Mr Kennedy... Kennedy got me thinking. Who are the Top Ten Wrestlers, whose WWE-Career ended before they could reach the mountain top? I came up with this Top-Ten list (it's my personal Top Ten so if you'd like you can always add to it) of guys who had it all, but just somehow didn't get the stars alligned for them:
TOP TEN SUPERSTARS WHO JUST COULDN'T REACH TOP:
10. CHRIS NOWINSKI, HARVARD (WWE 2003) Novinski was a guy that started very young and had a lot of potential. He was instrumental in the 3-Minute-Warning skit with Jamal and Rosey and he was very good on the Mic. Unfortunately before he could reach his full potential he started to get hurt a lot. In fact he had so many concussions, that he finally had to end his career before it really begun. He retired in 2004 and is now one of the most influential guys in fighting concussions in sports.
9. ADAM BOMB, THREE MILES ISLAND (WWE 1993-95) Bomb had a unique character in an aera were lame gimmicks evolved. While there were garbagemen and plumbers there were also young guy with a lot of potential - like Bomb. He stood out and impressed with some power-moves and a lot of charisma. Unfortunately his wresling was sub-par and after 1995 he suddenly dissapeared until WCW brought him back as Wrath. He tried a Comeback in 2001 and had one of the worst matches ever against Kane and Undertaker, which resulted in him getting fired.
8. LUDVIG BORGA, HELSINKI (WWE 1993-94) Rumors have it, that Borga was predestined to win the Royal Rumble 1994 so you know what kind of potential this strange dude from Finland had. He started in 1993 with a long winning streak and was portrayed as a very tough almost unbeatable guy. He had impressive power and charisma and could've been a main-player in a time, where they needed a heel like him in the worst way. Unfortunately he broke his shin in 1994 and wasn't seen again.
7. TEXAS TORNADO KERRY VON ERICH, DENTON,TX (WWE 1990-93) The Von Erichs ruled the Wrestling-World in the 80s especially in Texas and vicinity. So it was only a matter of time until the best von Erich made his WWE debut and what a debut it was - Right in his first match he defeated Mr.Perfect @SummerSlam and became Intercontinental-Champion. Kerry had so much potential and charisma and everybody thought, that this first title only would be the start for something much bigger - but it never happened. The reason for it: Kerry had personal problems with drugs and a like and the WWE never had the faith in him to push him to the top. Unfortunately in 1993 he committed suicide.
6. AHMED JOHNSON, PEARL RIVER (WWE 1995-1998) Before there was Bobby Lashley or the Rock, there was Ahmed Johnson. The former Football-Player started with a Bang into his WWE career and many saw him already as a candidate for the first black WWE-Champion in history. He won the Intercontinental Championship in 1996 from Goldust @King of the Ring and his career looked to be on track. But Johnson had problems in WWE - first of all he was injury prone and second he was sometimes a bit too stiff in the ring and hurt his opponents. Johnson never reached his full potential and left WWE in 1998.
5. BOBBY LASHLEY, COLORADO SPRINGS (WWE 2005-2008) Lashley made his WWE-Debut in 2005 in the first 'young superstar initiative' orchastrated by Teddy Long and he skyrocketed to the Top of SmackDown in no time. He had all the potential in the world as a legit wrestling champion in college and military and his physic was superb in a time, when those bodies shrunk. So he stood out and got a big push almost from the beginning, winning the Intercontinental-Championship in a very short match against JBL, then the ECW-Championship and became a prominent face in the Trump/McMahon rivalry. Everything looked up for this young athlete but then he hurt his arm and shoulder and had to take time off and then everything went south in a hurry. Nobody knows exactly the reasons for his departure but all of the sudden WWE released him in January 2008 to most everybodys surprise. Now he is trying his hand at MMA.
4. MR KENNEDY, GREEN BAY (WWE 2005-2009) Mr Kennedy started as Mr Anderson in WWE, then he became Mr Kennedy and from there his career took off. His ability on the mic, his above average in-ring-ability and his undoubted charisma made him one of the biggest Stars on SmackDown. The Undertaker took him under his wings and together they had a very good rivalry in 2006, that put Kennedy on the map as a future Main-Eventer. Everything looked great when he won the MITB @WrestleMania23, but then a string of mistakes and injuries started and derailed Kennedys career completely. Everytime when it looked like he finally got his feet under him again, he stumbled and crash landed. Surprisingly WWE cut him just a few days ago after he nearly hurt himself and Randy Orton in his comeback-match again.
3. OWEN HART, CALGARY (WWE 1991-1999) The young brother of Bret Hart started his WWE career in 1989 as the Blue Blazer under a mask but his real big moments came in the later Nineties after he feuded with his brother. Especially his match against Bret @WrestleManiaX and his heel persona put him on the WWE map as a future Main-Eventer. He won King of the Ring, Intercontinental-Championships and feuded with Shawn Michaels when Bret left. Owen was a very good wrestler, he was more than okay on the mic and he had the Hart-Legacy that made him a Star. But in 1999 everything was over before it actually really begun: @ Over the Edge a misguided stunt cost him his life and he died in the Blue-Blazer-outfit in the WWE ring. Owen was only 34 when his life came to an abrupt end.
2. RAZOR RAMON, MIAMI (WWE 1992-1996) Talk a bout a man who had it all: Great charisma, great mic-skills, good wrestling-ability - Razor Ramon aka Scott Hall started his career as the 'Bad Guy' in WWE in 1992 but he was so cool and so great that the fans couldn't really hate him. So he became one of the faces of the 'New Generation' of WWE. He won the Intercontinental-Championship in 1993 after Shawn Michaels dropped the Gold which lead to one of the best matches in WWE history @WrestleMania X - the infamous first Ladder-Match. Razor won the IC-Title some more later on, but he never reached his full potential due to problems with alcohol and in 1996 he left WWE for WCW, where he again became one big part of wrestling history as the 'Outsider' and later the nWo. When he returned to WWE his alcohol-problems already had derailed his career and he was too old to get another shot at the title.
1. MR PERFECT, MINNESOTA (WWE 1989-1996) His name said at all: Perfect - Curt Hennig was the perfect WWE-Superstar in the beginning of the Nineties, but he never reached his full potential. He started in 1989 and quickly became Mr Perfect and one of the most hated heels in WWE. He had everything: Charisma, Mic-Skills and very good wrestling-ability. Unfortunately he took too many high risk moves and they cost him badly. In 1990 he won the Intercontinental Championship and looked to be on his way to the top, but repeating back-problems derailed his path to the WWE-Title and after he dropped the Gold to Bret Hart @SummerSlam he had to end his career premature. He became a spokes-person for Ric Flair, before he started an in-ring-comeback - though he never could reach his full potential again. In 1996 he left WWE after a contract dispute and returned only in 2002, were he looked really good and almost won the Royal Rumble. Unfortunately he died 2003 due to a cocaine intoxication. Tags:
This Week in Review / Die Woche im Rückblick - May 30th 2009
Saturday, May 30, 2009, 11:08 AM EST
[Housecall]
Until yesterday I didn't have a big title for this weeks review. Yes, we had the 'Denver Debacle' and all of that what was going on there, we had the debut of 'WWE-Victoria' in TNA, but no title-changes, no major-storyline twists or turns and no matches of the Year nominees (though Taker vs HBK has that one wrapped up). But all this changed tonight: HEADLINE OF THE WEEK: WWE RELEASES MR KENNEDY...... KENNEDY Now there is the shocker of the week, month. Mr Kennedy made his long awaited comeback after another injury @ RAW, even challenged Randy Orton for the WWE-Championship and then everything went south in a hurry. Now I don't know if Kennedy really injured his wrist again, but it sure looked like it. Just before he almost hurt Randy Ortons surgical repaired shoulder with a very sloppy back-suplex as well - and now this. Matt wrote on his twitter-account, that he received a phone-call about somebody 'didn't learn from his mistakes' - I can only guess he meant Kennedy and that he got caught AGAIN red-handed via drug-testing. It's just a shame, Kennedy had so much potential when he started, even Taker took him under his wings and made him a bigger star, then he won MITB and everything looked like he would be the next big thing - until injuries and mistakes derailed his career so quickly. Well, I guess it won't be the end of the road, because somewhere down in Florida they are already rubbing their hands - but be careful - Mr Kennedy is very FRAGILE.... FRAGILE.
MOMENT OF THE WEEK: CHRIS JERICHO ATTACKS REY SmackDown had the moment of the Week, when Jericho, masked as a Rey-Fan attacked Mysterio and tried to rip his mask of his face. I like how this feud is going and it could be a really great long series of matches. Jericho and Rey are playing Heel/Face to perfection and both are capable to have excellent matches in the ring. I expect Jericho to win the title and then challenge Rey to a mask vs title match - maybe @SummerSlam (other moments of the Week: Kennedy reappears, Victoria makes her TNA-debut)
MATCH OF THE WEEK: JOHN CENA vs TED DI BIASE (SUPERSTARS) Now Jeff vs Edge-Quality-like-Match this week, but we had two good ones that stood out in my oppinion: First Cena vs Ted DiBiase @Superstars - Ted is quickly becoming a star in his own right and now with Kennedy out of the picture he will become a major player sooner than later. Cena held his own in this one as well, as he does almost always. The other one was between John Morrison and Umaga (more later). Morrison is quickly rising to the top (no Mojo-Jokes please) and it is only a matter of time until he will wear gold around his waist again. Unfortunately we had a non-finish in this one, so the MOTW honor goes to Cena/TedDiBiase.
SPOT OF THE WEEK: UMAGA catches JOMO in MidAir and samoan-drops him This spot stood out immediately and looked so fluently, that I had no other choice then to name it SOTW. I also liked Carlitos Backstabber against Haas and the Double-Vertical-Suplex from Cena/Batista against Show, but the Samoan-Drop was just that much better.
WWE-SUPERSTAR OF THE WEEK: KOFI KINGSTON (RAW) This one is a bit tricky - Kennedy could've locked it up, if he just stayed healthy - oh, and employed. But since he couldn't, the Superstar of the Week is somebody who started of hot, then cooled off a bit and now looks like he is gaining some steam again. I'm talking about Kofi Kingston who has the opportunity to regain IC-Championship-Gold in a match against MVP next week. Could be a good one, if given enough time.
WWE-DIVA OF THE WEEK: NATALYA We had some nice Diva-Action this week, actually 4 matches with Divas in them, I can't remember last time we had that much in a WWE-week, unfortunately almost all were very short. Melina won against Fox in a ok-bout I guess. Fox needs a bit more experience in the ring, but she has some untapped potential. Eve and Layla didn't do too much, and didn't botch anything horribly, so no complains here. Kelly and Maryse actually had a nice one, that was cut short with a very head-scratching DQ and Mickie pinned Beth in a mixed-team-match (again way too short). But the Diva of the week has to be Natalya for her promo when she introduced the Hart-Dynasty. I still prefer Hart-Trilogy though. But nontheless - she stood out there and made Kidd and Hart-Smith look like Stars.
WWE-OMG MOMENT OF THE WEEK: see above in 'HEADLINE OF THE WEEK'
WWE-WTF MOMENT OF THE WEEK: Santino challenging Vickie to a 'Hog-Pen-Match' Uhm... I don't think I have to explain that one. All I have to say is please WWE - let it go and drop the Santina charakter ASAP. and then there was: - Kendrick is still looking for a tagteam-partner. Goldust and Festus didn't work out, so maybe he should try and call London - and I don't mean the Capital of Great Britain - Swagger pinning Christian AND Finlay in one week. This is what you call 'make an impression'. - Dreamer can dance ... somehow... - Khali can't - McMahon doesn't like Enis... and Nuggets for that matter. - Air Bourne had a match again and won against Mark Henry. I think Henry has quietly become very watchable and the Match against Evan was better than it had any right to be. Nice finish with open end also. - Another week without Triple H, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker and Kane... - The Dolph Ziggler bandwagon is rolling... he may become, what Kennedy would have IF... - Flair will be wrestling soon again - unfortunately.
Finally - the 'EXTREME RULES-CARD' so far: WWE-CHAMPIONSHIP / STEEL-CAGE MATCH: Randy Orton(c) vs Batista: I expect Orton to retain and Batista to lose his cool - again. WORLD-HEAVYWEIGHT-CHAMPIONSHIP / LADDER-MATCH: Edge(c) vs Jeff Hardy: Let's put the title back on Jeff - Jeff wins and becomes WHC again. INTERCONTINENTAL-CHAMPIONSHIP/NO HOLDS BARRED: Rey Mysterio(c) vs Chris Jericho: Could be Jericho winning with a dirty trick. SUBMISSION-MATCH: John Cena vs Big Show: I guess Cena wins with a new (gasp) submission move. SAMOAN-STRAP-MATCH: Umaga vs CM Punk: Punk needs to win badly after losing to Kane and Umaga back-to-back. ECW-CHAMPIONSHIP/TRIPLE-THREAT-MATCH: Christian(c) vs Jack Swagger vs Tommy Dreamer: Can't imagine Dreamer winning, so I go with Swagger. But it's also possible Christian retains again. MISS WRESTLEMANIA / HOG-PEN-MATCH: Vickie Guerrero(c) vs Santina Marella: Vickie with a little help of Chavo. And then Santina disappears... hopefully.
TOP-TEN-WRESTLERS 1. Randy Orton (WWE-Champion) 2. John Cena 3. Edge (World-Champion) 4. Chris Jericho 5. Jeff Hardy 6. Batista 7. Rey Mysterio 8. John Morrison 9. MVP 10. Kofi Kingston
TOP-TEN-DIVAS THIS WEEK: 1. Mickie James 2. Melina (Womens-Champ) 3. Maryse (Divas-Champ) 4. Michelle McCool 5. Kelly Kelly 6. Beth Phoenix 7. Alicia Fox 8. Eve Torres 9. Natalya 10. Tiffany
WWE-OMG MOMENT DER WOCHE: siehe SCHLAGZEILE DER WOCHE
Tags:
Time to show the Divas some love
Wednesday, November 26, 2008, 06:41 AM EST
[Housecall]
Time to show the Divas some love. I know, that as a fan of the WWE-Divas and their wrestling, I'm not in the majority. I know that WWE-Divas are not portraid to be good wrestlers, but more as eye-candy. Most matches especially on RAW are very short, mostly tag-team-matches were the girls not even have the chance to prove themselves. Well, it's time to change that. The WWE-Diva-Division is the best they had for quite some time. Let's just look at the RAW-Girls: You have maybe the strongest face-fraction since Lita, Trish Stratus, Stacy Keibler and Torrie Wilson: - Mickie James: She is the most loved one of the bunch. Everywhere she goes, she gets the best reaction. It-Factor is there. Wrestling-Ability is more than there. - Melina: She definetly has that IT-Factor, she is flashy, she has her own style. And she can wrestle. - Kelly Kelly: She is young with so much talent and athletic ability. I like how WWE is building her up slowly and not throwing her right into the title-picture. If her head stays with WWE, she has a really bright future. - Candice Michelle: She showed her abilities before her injuries detoured her. I think she is one of the hardest workers in and outside of the ring. Say what you want about her, but she will prove her nay-sayers wrong. So now - we have 4 Divas to build the division. Now we need to give them time. Time that the Fans care about them. Explain things to me: Like why do Melina and Candice all the sudden like each other? If you remember - Melina and Candice had a feud and then they 'battled' even on wwe.com on their respective blogs. So - what happened there? Why not get them both on TV and give them the chance to explain there new found bond. Like both had very tough injuries to overcome and then one called the other to wish her a speedy recovery and they clicked. How they both realized that they are very similar to each other, in both having the dream to once become WWE-Womens-Champion again. TNA has proven that there is interest in women wrestling. But you need the stories to get emotionally involved. This is a chance WWE should take. They handled the Candice comeback wrong, now make up for it. One thing that's so obvious to me - the Fans want Diva-Action. Just hear how they reacted, when Lilian anounced the Elimination Match. And then, after that initial pop, it was silent. Why? Because WWE hasn't invested a lot of time in the development of the bond between the individual Diva to the Fans. Ok - let's take a look at the RAW Heel Divas: Beth Phoenix - Undeniably right now the most important Heel. She is the Champion and she has Santino. And of course she can wrestle. Jillian Hall - She too can wrestle, but all we know about her is that she can't sing. Katie Lea - She has a brother (kind of) and is from England. Ok... and? Layla - I don't even know if she still wrestles? Well at least she looks good on the side of William Regal. Well - there is a lot of work to introduce them to us. next time I'll show the SmackDown!-Divas some love Tags:
